East Peoria draft review
Going into the draft I was missing a couple of draft picks from previous trades, wanted to build depth at WR, and need to solidify my QB issues. Before the draft I was able to work a trade to add 3 picks but it cost a starting QB.
At 1.06 my FSU homer WR Keon Coleman, BUF was sitting there in a great situation. I wanted to grab a QB since I can't ever seem to land one in the 1st round.
2.04 QB JJ McCarthy, MIN was sitting there and I already have the handcuff in Sam Darnold. After the NFL draft I was trying to figure out how I could move back to aquire both Coleman and McCarthy. I didn't have to do anything and I was able get both.
2.06 LB Junior Colson, LAC. I was torn on this pick. Take the top LB or get another WR or the 2nd best TE in the class. Too many needs and not enough early picks. Well, there are too many Michigan fans in this league so I grabbed the top LB.
A run of players taken out of my queue had me trade my 3rd round pick for a 2025 2nd and this years 4th round.
4.02 WR Javon Baker, NE gets me back on page with WR depth. I love the potential of Baker. Not a NE fan and I never draft anyone from there but maybe he will be special.
4.06 TE Theo Johnson, NYG. There was a nice run on TEs and all of the one's I was targeting are gone. With Waller retiring the NYG have an opening. I have to take the chance and cut my dead weight in my TE group.
6.06 DB Calen Bullock, HOU. No 5th round pick this year so time to sit back and wait to see who falls. DB is a good spot here. I have some oldies that are near the end. Solid depth.
7.01 DL Chris Braswell, TB. Braswell and Tryon are battling for the same position but RT has Tryon as a LB and Braswell as a DL. I have both and will watch camp. I'm guessing Braswell will win and Tryon will be off my team in preseason.
7.05 LB Jordan Magee, WAS. Another rule for me is to not draft Dallas and Washington players along with NE. Breaking most of my rules this draft. Magee was drafted with the plan to start next year. WAS signed Wagner to a 1 year deal. Magee gets to sit and learn from 1 of the leagues best.
7.06 DB Tykee Smith, TB. With my last pick, lets take a chance on someone with talent but an injury history. He goes to a good spot and could be really productive but if he can't shake the injuries the cost doesn't really hurt to move on from.
I think I hit on most of my targets here. A QB, 2 WRs, TE, DL, 2 LBs, and 2 DBs. The only thing I missed on was RB. It is a position that I like to draft and then trade away. My streak is broken. I'll have to work on that next year. Added depth was needed and I touched on every group. You all are in trouble this year. Back to the playoffs again. Who's joining me?
