A move to Carolina was supposed to be a positive for Sanders, but that wasn't the case. He lost his starting job and had a career-low 586 total yards. Miles had two games all season with double-digit fantasy points, which came in the first three weeks of the season. He did very little after that. Sanders is likely back with the Panthers this season but should be in a backup role from the get go. Sanders is a former 1,000-yard rusher but has topped 900-rushing yards just once in five seasons. Sanders is a good one-cut runner that can do well in the passing game. He is a shifty back but runs with power and has good moves. He is a pretty complete package at running back that can play all three downs. He does lack a little thump, though, struggling some after contact.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Sanders was a big bust last year. He might do a little better this year in what should be a better offense but remains a risk for fantasy teams. He won't get as much consistent weekly work. He might be worth a late-round gamble. Look for around 600 total yards and a few scores.
A former Pro Bowl player, Miles Sanders was a significant free-agent acquisition for the Carolina Panthers last season. The former Philadelphia Eagles signed a four-year, $25.4 million contract with Carolina the previous offseason. However, his transition didn't go as planned, and he was relegated to a backup role behind Chuba Hubbard over the second half of the season. Sanders rushed for 432 yards and a touchdown while catching 27 passes for 154 yards over 16 games in 2023. This drastic change in his status raises the question of Sanders reclaiming his fantasy relevance. Sanders' efficiency (3.35 yards per carry in 2023 and one touchdown) was poor, and his volume did not do him any favors (only 129 rush attempts in 16 games). It's fair to say that the season was a disaster for him and the Panthers. With the return of Hubbard and the arrival of Texas rookie RB Jonathon Brooks (drafted in the second, 46th overall), the competition for Sanders looks even bleaker. The fact that they used such a high draft pick on Brooks further clouds Sanders' outlook. His days as a lead back seem over in Carolina. Sanders has a current ADP of RB90 but a RotoBaller RB ranking of 59, making him a dart throw in the best ball and deep leagues.

Carolina Panthers running back Miles Sanders (heel) did not practice on Tuesday due to a heel injury. The 27-year-old had a flare-up and is being held out as a precaution, according to head coach Dave Canales. While he's expected to be fine, missing practice time is not ideal after the team selected Jonathon Brooks (knee) in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Sanders is coming off his worst season as a pro. He accounted for just 432 rushing yards and one touchdown while averaging an abysmal 3.3 yards per carry. Chuba Hubbard outperformed him last year, and Brooks is likely to be heavily involved in the Carolina rushing attack when he's fully healthy. It would be a surprise if Sanders becomes anything close to a weekly contributor to fantasy squads this season.
From RotoBaller
The Carolina Panthers were saying there was still room for running back Miles Sanders in the RB room after trading up in the second round of last month's NFL draft to take Jonathon Brooks as the first RB off the board. But that was before the team signed former Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny, who was with Panthers head coach Dave Canales in Seattle. Sanders lost the starting job to Chuba Hubbard last year amid the worst season of his career. It's hard to envision another team wanting to trade for Sanders and his contract, although the Panthers showed this offseason that they're willing to eat money to move on from underperforming players. The 27-year-old Sanders is now listed as third on the team's RB depth chart behind Hubbard and Brooks, making him undraftable in standard 12-team leagues this fall.
