Dynasty | The Vikings did not extend a contract offer to running back Cam Akers, making him a free agent. Dynasty Analysis: Akers' career has taken a nosedive as injuries have essentially robbed him of a lot of his explosiveness. After a good run in Los Angeles, he just couldn't make it work in Minnesota. With Aaron Jones and Ty Chandler leading the way now, the Vikings just didn't have room on their roster for him. Akers will try to latch on somewhere but his dynasty value (and career) seems to be hanging by a thread.

Mar 13 5:00pm ET

The Minnesota Vikings declined to offer a restricted free-agent tender to running back Cam Akers (Achilles), meaning he is a free agent and can negotiate freely with any team. The former second-round pick was an exciting prospect out of Florida State in 2020 but after two Achilles tears in four years in the NFL, his career has struggled to get off the ground. Akers was traded to the Vikings from the Los Angeles Rams early in the 2023 campaign and rushed 38 times for 138 yards and one touchdown before suffering a major Achilles injury. The 24-year-old might get a chance to play elsewhere, but it'll likely be on a cheap, one-year deal. For now, he remains far from the fantasy radar. The majority of skill players do not recover well from an Achilles tear, never mind two.

Dynasty | An MRI confirmed Cam Akers tore is Achilles tendon, ending his 2023 season Dynasty Analysis: A brutal break for Akers and his dynasty coaches. Akers had already torn his right Achilles in 2021 and made a miraculous comeback. This injury is to his left ankle. While there's every possibility Akers stuns the NFL again with a quick comeback, it's simply too material of a second injury to keep him from falling completely off DLF's dynasty rankings. There's plenty of data suggesting one Achilles is enough to end a running back's career, let alone two. Dynasty coaches participating in deep-roster formats may elect to hold onto to Akers but most others will be cutting bait entirely. Akers is found as DLF's RB38, but that will changer significantly in the week to come.

Nov 6 2:20pm ET

Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers (Achilles) underwent an MRI to determine the extent of his Achilles injury that he suffered in the Week 9 win over the Atlanta Falcons. Unfortunately, Akers is confirmed to have suffered a torn Achilles for the second time in his short NFL career. The 24-year-old tore his right Achilles in 2021 as a member of the Los Angeles Rams, and he tore his left Achilles on Sunday. Obviously, the former second-round pick will miss the remainder of the 2023 season, and his career could be at risk of being cut short. With him out of the picture, Alexander Mattison will remain the Vikings' starter. Ty Chandler is likely to assume the RB2 role once again.

Nov 5 5:00pm ET

Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers (Achilles) is feared to have torn his Achilles during Week 9 versus the Atlanta Falcons, according to head coach Kevin O'Connell. He exited during the second half and was quickly ruled out, finishing the game with 25 rushing and 13 receiving yards. This is a tough break for the former Rams running back, who has now torn his Achilles twice through four seasons in the NFL. It's also bad news for the Vikings, who have struggled to stay healthy on offense. For the time being, Alexander Mattison will continue to lead the Minnesota backfield, while Ty Chandler backs him up.

Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers (ankle) exited during the second half of Week 9 versus the Atlanta Falcons. He was quickly ruled out, finishing the game with 25 rushing and 13 receiving yards. The injury appeared to be quite serious, and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero speculated that the former Rams running back might have suffered the second torn Achilles of his career. Look for head coach Kevin Stefanski to provide an update on Akers' status postgame. For the time being, Alexander Mattison will continue to lead the Minnesota backfield while Ty Chandler backs him up.

Nov 4 4:50pm ET

Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers will be a risky option for fantasy managers in Week 9, as he reverted back to his role of RB2 in the Minnesota backfield in Week 8. After out-touching Alexander Mattison in the team's upset win over the 49ers in Week 7, Akers was out-touched 17 to 10 in the win over the Packers in Week 8. The former Los Angeles Ram faces a Falcons run defense allowing just 3.8 yards per carry this season, which makes him a risky FLEX-option at best for fantasy managers. Akers could see an increased workload if the Vikings want to take a run-heavy approach with an inexperienced quarterback under center, but it may be best to take a wait-and-see approach with the new-look Minnesota offense.

Oct 27 5:30pm ET

Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers will look to build on his best performance with his new team in Week 8 as the Vikings visit the Packers. Akers handled 10 carries for 31 yards and caught two passes for 30 yards in the team's upset victory over the 49ers in Week 7. It is yet to be seen if the plan is for Akers and Alexander Mattison to continue evenly splitting touches in the Minnesota backfield, but Akers out-touching Mattison in a positive game script seems like something worth monitoring for fantasy managers. The former Los Angeles Ram could be on the FLEX radar if his workload from last week becomes a trend, but the presence of Mattison will most likely cap his upside.
