2024 RTSports Outlook

Shipley was selected by the Eagles in the fourth round of this year's draft. Shipley is likely No. 2 or 3 on the depth chart for the Eagles his rookie season. Shipley was a productive three-down back in college. He does well on short-yardage situations and also is a solid pass catcher. He might make most of his plays in the passing game early in his career. He lacks a little size for the running back spot and can struggle some after contact.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Shipley won't get a ton of work his rookie season, playing behind Saquon Barkley. He might have a few decent games but probably isn't worth a roster spot. He might get 20 receptions and 400 total yards with a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

The Philadelphia Eagles grabbed a burner in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting Will Shipley out of Clemson. The 5-foot-11 Shipley was carted off with a left knee injury suffered while returning a kick in the Gator Bowl, but the junior would avoid surgery and declare for the draft. This followed leg/foot injuries in 2021 and a concussion in '22. The upside is rooted in speed and versatility that saw him named First-Team All-ACC RB, All-Purpose, and Specialist honors in 2022. Shipley averaged over five yards per carry and six yards per catch in each of his three Clemson campaigns. Now he'll mix with Kenneth Gainwell for No. 2 RB duties behind Saquon Barkley while Jalen Hurts is a goal-line RB himself. Shipley's value should come in bursts depending on how often Philly can scheme his wheels into space. If the 2024 Eagles replicate last season's first half then fantasy teams will be clamoring for a piece of the action. Shipley sits around the RB70 range in RotoBaller's half-PPR ranks and early ADP alike.

Philadelphia Eagles rookie running back Will Shipley was selected in the fourth round of the 2024 NFL Draft despite the team already having Saquon Barkley and Kenneth Gainwell on the roster. The Eagles weren't pegged as a team that could take a running back before the last few rounds, but the Clemson product was clearly on the radar. According to Eagles reporter Eliot Shorr-Parks, the 21-year-old is flashing as a receiver and could take reps from Gainwell in 2024. Shipley caught 85 passes for 602 yards and two touchdowns in three seasons as a Tiger, so his success as a pass-catcher in practice is not much of a surprise. He could be a high-end fantasy football handcuff in a great offense, especially since Barkley has missed eight games over the last three seasons and is entering his age-27 season this year.

Dynasty | The Philadelphia Eagles drafted Clemson running back Will Shipley in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. Dynasty Analysis: It's a fun landing spot for Shipley as Philadelphia is a run-first team that also find a lot of creative ways to get their playmakers in space. He could push Saquon Barkley for some third-down work and could also prove to be a decent handcuff for Barkley should he pass some of the other runners on the depth chart. There are no guarantees with fourth round picks but Shipley looks like a mid-round player worth taking a chance on.
