The Seattle Seahawks are looking to make some additions to their offensive line this offseason. Recently, Seahawks general manager John Schneider said the team has a lot to figure out on the o-line. This team is without left guard Damien Lewis and right guard Phil Haynes who both left for free agency. Possibly, the Seahawks use the 16th overall pick in the draft to add some offensive line. It appears Seattle is still looking to compete next season with Geno Smith slated to be under center. Most of the Seahawks offensive weapons are back, but this team could be in serious trouble if they don't patch up their o-line soon.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith will enter the 2024-25 campaign as the team's starter. New head coach Mike Macdonald has avoided the topic since taking over. However, he finally addressed the situation with NFL Media's Tom Pelissero. "Very confident in Geno," said MacDonald. "Geno's going to be our starter." The signal-caller had a down season in 2023-24, throwing for 3,624 yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He also completed just 64.7% of his throws, a significant reduction from the previous year. But Smith was the 2022 NFL Comeback Player of the Year, so if anyone can turn things around, it's him. Yet, if he struggles during the season, he could find himself sitting behind Sam Howell, who was acquired by the Commanders just over a week ago. For now, fantasy managers shouldn't reach for Smith in drafts. With that in mind, while the 33-year-old might struggle at times, especially under a new head coach, he'll likely have more than a few productive fantasy showings.

Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith will not have any competition for the starting job next season, and QB Sam Howell knows he will be the backup, according to head coach Mike Macdonald.

Fantasy Spin: Smith will have to learn a new offense this offseason but still has one of the better receiver groups in the NFL. He probably should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback in most fantasy leagues and will not be in the starting lineup often.

Mar 10 7:43pm ET

Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith is not a lock to start in 2024 based on recent comments by head coach Mike Macdonald during a radio interview on Friday, March 8.

Fantasy Spin: Smith came back down to earth in 2024 but his overall numbers weren't terrible, with the Seahawks signal-caller finishing as QB18 overall despite missing two games due to injury. Smith has a massive dead-cap number this year and cutting him wouldn't net any savings, so it looks like he'll be on the roster no matter what, barring a trade. As far as competition is concerned, the Seahawks don't have any on the roster and Smith's stiffest competition might come from a rookie if Seattle drafts a quarterback. The veteran would be considered the favorite to start in that situation and if he wins, Smith will enter 2024 as a QB2.

Feb 28 9:33am ET

Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith 'is the quarterback until he's not,' according to general manager John Schneider.

Fantasy Spin: Smith was the QB17 in 15 games last year. The team has the 16th overall selection and no second-round picks. So it'll be interesting to see if they try to land a quarterback in the middle of the first round or trade up. Smith is a decent QB2 "until he's not."

From TheHuddle

Feb 28 12:30am ET

Seattle Seahawks general manager John Schneider said on Tuesday that quarterback Geno Smith is the team's starter "until he's not," when asked whether Smith is the team's starter "right now." Smith is coming off an uneven 2023 season and has two years left on his three-year, $75 million deal he signed last March. His $12.7 million base salary for next season became fully guaranteed when the team kept him on their roster past Feb. 16. However, it's believed Seattle would still think about a possible trade. If they were to trade Smith, they'd assume $27 million in dead money, but a new team could acquire him for only $12.9 million next season. The 33-year-old won Comeback Player of the Year in 2022 but was merely average last season. If Smith isn't traded, he'll remain Seattle's starting QB entering the 2024 season and will be best viewed as a QB2 in fantasy.

Feb 22 7:10pm ET

The Seattle Seahawks restructured quarterback Geno Smith's contract on Thursday, converting his $9.6 million roster bonus into a signing bonus and creating $4.8 million in 2024 salary cap space, according to a source. The Seahawks made the call to bring Smith back for the 2024 season when they decided to keep him on the roster in the middle of this month when his $12.7 million base salary became guaranteed. Seattle could move on from the 33-year-old veteran next year if he disappoints in 2024, as he won't have any guarantees in the final year of his deal. Smith regressed a bit after a career year in 2022 with the Seahawks, and he finished with 3,624 passing yards, 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 15 starts. Expecting him to return to his 2022 level would be foolish, although Smith can pass as a high-end QB2 as long as he stays healthy in 2024.

The Seattle Seahawks are expected to hire Charles London as their new quarterbacks coach for the 2024 season. The 48-year-old most recently served as the Tennessee Titans' QBs coach and passing-game coordinator last year. He will now join offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb and pass-game coordinator Jake Peetz to help lead the Seahawks offense. He'll be working closely with Geno Smith, who had a breakout season in 2022. London started his NFL coaching career as an offensive quality control coach with the Chicago Bears from 2007-09 and was also a scout for the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010 and an offensive assistant with the Titans in 2011. He then coached the Texans running backs from 2014-17 and the Bears RBs from 2018-20 before joining the Falcons as their QBs coach from 2021-22.

Dynasty | The Seahawks are planning to pay the $12.7 million roster bonus due to quarterback Geno Smith this week. Dynasty Analysis: This all but ensures Smith will be under center for Seattle unless they invest heavily in the NFL Draft with a quarterback who pushes him for time immediately. Smith has turned his career around in Seattle and threw for 3,624 yards with 20 touchdowns and nine interceptions. Unfortunately, his late-season career renaissance has come with him now 33 years of age. He's a solid QB2 in dynasty leagues and a player who can help in a pinch but it's hard to see him really being much of a difference-maker in 2024.

Feb 15 3:03pm ET

Seattle Seahawks QB Geno Smith was informed by the team on Thursday, Feb. 15, that he will remain on the roster through this week, according to sources. As a result, the $12.7 million in his contract that was protected by an injury guarantee will become fully guaranteed on Friday.

Fantasy Spin: Smith took a step back from his breakout 2022 season last year, but some of that had to do with an offense under former offensive coordinator Shane Waldron that probably ran a bit more than it should have. It also would not make much sense for Seattle to move on from Smith since the team does not have a viable alternative already in place and cutting him would have resulted in a dead cap charge of around $17.5 million. While he may not repeat 2022, Smith could rebound nicely if new offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb employs a more pass-heavy approach as expected.

Feb 15 2:40pm ET

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, who has $12.7 million in his contract that becomes fully guaranteed on Friday, was informed on Thursday that he will remain on the roster through this week, allowing that money to trigger, according to sources. The Seahawks believed that in today's market, with salaries soaring for starting QBs, the correct decision was to pay the money for Smith, who will now represent a value to Seattle or any other team that decides to acquire him via trade this offseason. The 33-year-old veteran has two years and $75 million left on his three-year deal that he signed last offseason. After leading the league with a 69.8 completion percentage in 2022 while throwing for a career-high 4,282 yards and 30 touchdowns, Smith regressed a bit in 2023. Expecting him to return to his 2022 form would be foolish.

Feb 10 1:20pm ET

The Seattle Seahawks hired former University of Washington offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb as their new offensive coordinator on Friday. Grubb recently accepted the same position at Alabama, but he will now head to the NFL instead. He spent the last two years as the offensive coordinator for the Huskies under current Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, running a pass-heavy offense that ranked sixth in college football in yards per game (487) and sixth in scoring (36.7) in that span. The Huskies led the FBS in passing yards per game (355.8) the last two seasons. The job in Seattle will be Grubb's first in the NFL, and he's expected to bring Alabama offensive line coach Scott Huff with him to the Seahawks. In Washington, Grubb also served as the quarterbacks coach and will spend a lot of time with Geno Smith heading into the 2024 campaign.

Jan 30 7:40pm ET

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, 33, has two years left on the three-year, $75 million contract extension he signed last March after being named to the Pro Bowl and winning the league's Comeback Player of the Year award, but Seattle could move on from him this offseason with non-prohibitive salary cap penalties. They would incur $17.4 million in dead money, either by cutting Smith before his $12.7 million base salary becomes fully guaranteed on Feb. 16, or by trading him before March 17. Conventional wisdom suggests the Seahawks will likely keep Smith for at least another year and see if a new coaching staff can get more out of him after a down season in 2023. The 33-year-old veteran had the best QBR over the final six weeks, but he also missed time with injuries and his production dipped across the board from 2022. Losing Pete Carroll as his head coach could hurt Smith the most, but he'll still serve as a high-end QB2 for fantasy managers if he stays in Seattle.

From RotoBaller

Jan 10 2:30pm ET

Veteran coach Pete Carroll is out as the Seattle Seahawks head coach following a 9-8 season in which the team did not qualify for the playoffs. It's a bit of a surprising move, but Seattle hasn't enjoyed much postseason success in recent seasons. Carroll will end his time in Seattle with a 137-89-1 regular season record, a 10-9 postseason record, two trips to the Super Bowl, and one Super Bowl victory. According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Carroll could remain with the organization in a different role, but he will no longer lead the franchise. With a new coaching staff coming in, quarterback Geno Smith's job security is certainly in question. The Seahawks' head coaching job is now open for the first time since 2010 when Carroll was initially hired.

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith went 16-for-28 for 189 passing yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 21-20 win over the Arizona Cardinals. Smith also gained 28 rushing yards on three carries in the game. Smith was under heavy pressure throughout the contest and had difficulty syncing up with his receivers. Still, Smith once again led a game-winning drive on the Seahawks' last drive of the game, the fifth time this season he has done so. Smith connected with wide receiver Tyler Lockett for a 34-yard touchdown with 1:54 left on the clock. Smith then went back to Lockett to secure the go-ahead two-point conversion. Even with the win, the Seahawks will not advance to the playoffs as their chances were dependent also on a Green Bay Packers loss. Having signed a three-year contract with the Seahawks in March, Smith will likely return as the starter in 2024 and will end the season with 3,624 passing yards, 20 touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 15 games.

Jan 6 5:30am ET

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith posted a decent line in a losing effort in Week 17. Facing the Pittsburgh Steelers, he completed 23-of-33 passes for 290 yards and a touchdown and took three carries for 33 yards on the ground. Sitting on the playoff bubble, Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals is a must-win game for the Seahawks. Arizona's completion percentage allowed of 69.25% is the second-worst mark in the league and the team has allowed eight passing touchdowns in the last three weeks. Several regularly starting quarterbacks will be on the bench for the NFL season finale pushing Smith up the QB ranks. With a thinner field and a soft opponent, Smith is looking like a viable DFS pick and could play his way into low-end QB1 territory in an effort to secure a playoff berth for Seattle.

From RotoBaller

Jan 1 6:20am ET

Seattle Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith completed 23 of 33 pass attempts for 290 yards and a touchdown in their 30-23 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. He also added 33 yards on the ground on three carries, including one rush that went for a season-high gain of 25 yards. Smith found receiver DK Metcalf for big gains of 33, 32, and 21 yards and finished with eight completions that went for 15 yards or more. Smith held his own against the Steelers' aggressive pass rush until he fell victim to a strip sack midway through the fourth quarter, his one miscue of the day. The 33-year-old regained his composure on the Seahawks' final drive of the game, completing six consecutive pass attempts but failed to connect on his final three shots at the end zone. For fantasy managers playing through to Week 18, Smith should fare well in Seattle's season finale against the Arizona Cardinals.
