Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin is signing a three-year contract extension on Tuesday that is worth up to $71 million in new money that puts him amongst the league's top-five highest-paid receivers, according to sources. The Commanders said all along that McLaurin wasn't a trade candidate after he held out of offseason workouts, including minicamp, and the 26-year-old will stick around for at least three more seasons in D.C. The former third-rounder has produced back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons in Washington with sub-par quarterback play, and he's scored 16 times in his three NFL seasons. McLaurin will have Carson Wentz throwing him passes in 2022, and he'll be a solid WR2 target going into his fourth season.

The Washington Commanders don't have any intention of trading wide receiver Terry McLaurin, who is holding out of mandatory minicamp in search of a long-term contract extension. "We're not trading Terry...we're trying to get this done...We believe in who Terry is for us and what he can bring to the table," head coach Ron Rivera said. The team will fine McLaurin for missing mandatory practices, and it's believed that the two sides aren't exactly close to working something out. With receiver deals skyrocketing this offseason, the 26-year-old should be able to do well for himself on his next deal. McLaurin will be the unquestioned No. 1 pass-catcher for Washington after posting back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, but he's missing valuable repetitions with new quarterback Carson Wentz this offseason.

Talks between the Washington Commanders and wide receiver Terry McLaurin's representatives have continued, according to sources. There has been some progress, but the two sides remain far apart. It's the main reason why McLaurin plans to skip the team's mandatory minicamp this week. He returned to Florida on Sunday to resume training for the upcoming season on his own. The 26-year-old is looking to get paid on a deal similar to the four years and $100 million that A.J. Brown got from the Philadelphia Eagles after they traded for him during the draft. McLaurin will remain a strong WR2 target in fantasy after back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with nine total touchdowns, but he's losing valuable reps in offseason practices with new quarterback Carson Wentz.

Jun 13 2:50pm ET

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin isn't expected to be in attendance during the team's upcoming minicamp. The latest update contradicts a previous report stating the wideout would be there. However, it now appears he's heading for Florida to continue working out independently. The 26-year-old, who has compiled 222 catches for 3,090 yards and 16 touchdowns throughout his tenure in D.C., continues to search for a new deal. He's been an effective fantasy option over the years, even with instability at the quarterback position in Washington. Nevertheless, while it's unknown how long the stalemate between McLaurin and the organization will last, there's a chance he may not be at training camp either. Stay tuned.

Jun 8 12:10pm ET

Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera expects wide receiver Terry McLaurin to be at mandatory minicamp next week "because it's mandatory." McLaurin has missed all of the team's voluntary organized team activities while negotiating a long-term contract extension. The 26-year-old former third-rounder is expected to get something done with the team, but in the meantime, he's missing out on valuable practice in order to gain chemistry with new quarterback Carson Wentz, who has taken a liking to rookie first-rounder Jahan Dotson in McLaurin's absence. McLaurin has back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons with sub-optimal QB play and will be a solid target as a WR2 in fantasy in his fourth NFL season.

May 24 12:30pm ET

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin hasn't been attending the team's offseason workouts, but head coach Ron Rivera thinks it's "just a matter of time" before he's back with the team. The two sides could work out a long-term contract extension soon. The 26-year-old is going into the fourth and final year of his rookie deal and will get paid handsomely when all is said and done. He nearly had 1,000 yards receiving in his rookie season in 2019 before posting back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns the last two years while dealing with shoddy quarterback play. That'll probably continue with Carson Wentz now in town, but McLaurin has proven that he can overcome that and still produce for his fantasy managers as Washington's unquestioned No. 1 pass-catcher.

May 19 11:20pm ET

Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin will command a hefty payday in the near future. The Commanders haven't made many notable moves during free agency, so keeping cash available for a McLaurin extension remains a priority. Unquestionably, the 26-year-old has played well throughout his three years in the league, compiling 3,090 yards and 16 touchdowns off 222 receptions (357 targets). With Carson Wentz under center for the 2022-23 campaign, McLaurin could be in store for his best season to date. Fantasy managers need to keep him on the radar.

The Washington Commanders are expected to pick up the fifth-year option for defensive end Montez Sweat on Wednesday, according to a source. It's not a surprise that the Commanders are picking up his option, but teams have until next Monday to pick up options for 2019 first-round picks. Once the move is official, Sweat will be guaranteed an $11.5 million salary for the 2023 season. Washington could also work out a long-term extension with the 26th overall pick from 2019, but wide receiver Terry McLaurin is likely more of a priority for the team. Sweat played in every game in his first two seasons but was limited to 10 contests last year due to injuries. He finished with 24 tackles (13 solo), three tackles for loss, 13 QB hits, five sacks and three forced fumbles.

Apr 18 10:20am ET

In spite of an unresolved contract situation, Washington Commanders wide receiver Terry McLaurin will be participating in the team's on-field offseason program, beginning on Monday. It was originally reported that he would not participate until he received a new contract, along with fellow fourth-year wide receivers Deebo Samuel and A.J. Brown. However, McLaurin is now expected to report and remain on track with team activity. Entering the final year of his rookie contract when the wide receiver market has exploded, McLaurin and his agent would have the leverage to negotiate a new deal or seek a trade. However, the 26-year-old has fallen somewhat short of lofty expectations, recording 77 catches for 1,053 yards and five touchdowns in 2021. Monday's news is encouraging for McLaurin to remain a Commander, but the way this offseason has gone, it is certainly not a guarantee.

Apr 8 3:20pm ET

The Washington Commanders have yet to make wide receiver Terry McLaurin a contract-extension offer, according to a source. McLaurin is entering the fourth and final season of his rookie contract. Washington met with his agent at the NFL combine in February and recently said they've been having ongoing dialogue, but there hasn't been an offer yet. There's still plenty of time to get something done with the team's No. 1 receiver, and the Commanders still have plenty of interest in locking him up for the future. The 26-year-old has back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons in his first three NFL campaigns and will get an upgrade with quarterback Carson Wentz in 2022. Scary Terry should be targeted as a high-end WR2 in fantasy drafts this fall.

Apr 4 11:30am ET

The Washington Commanders have yet to engage in serious contract discussions with wide receiver Terry McLaurin and his agent, and league sources at the owners' meetings said they imagine McLaurin's representation to aim for financial terms in the Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill range. Other teams are monitoring McLaurin's situation in case an opening to acquire him emerges. Sources on both sides anticipate intensified extension talks for McLaurin starting around or after the NFL draft, which begins on April 28. Head coach Ron Rivera said no team has reached out about a possible trade for McLaurin and also said, "we wouldn't entertain it." As of now, the 26-year-old pass-catcher is expected to remain in D.C., where he won't have a very high fantasy ceiling with quarterback Carson Wentz now under center.

Mar 3 10:00am ET

The Washington Commanders plan to meet with wide receiver Terry McLaurin's agent about a contract extension this week. He's entering 2022 in the final year of his rookie deal. The 26-year-old caught 77 passes for 1,053 yards and five touchdowns over 17 games in 2021. He's recorded back-to-back 1,000-yard campaigns. Fantasy managers expected more out of the Ohio State product after he hauled in 87 catches for 1,118 receiving yards in 2020. Spotty quarterback play led to the Washington wideout not having a massive season in 2021. If the Commanders can upgrade at quarterback this offseason, McLaurin has the game-breaking ability to vault into the next tier of elite receivers.

Feb 23 3:10pm ET

Washington Commanders head coach Ron Rivera said no deal for contract-year wide receiver Terry McLaurin is imminent, but he expects conversations with McLaurin's representatives to begin at next week's scouting combine. The 26-year-old had his second 1,000-yard receiving season in 2021, but his fantasy managers were expecting a bit more after he had 1,118 receiving yards in his sophomore season and seven touchdowns in his rookie campaign in 2019. The early season injury to quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and fellow wideout Curtis Samuel's disappointing year didn't help McLaurin's cause for a huge season. If Washington can lure a veteran QB into town as an upgrade over Taylor Heinicke, McLaurin's ceiling will rise once again.
