The Detroit Lions decided to match the three-year, $12 million offer that the San Francisco 49ers gave restricted free-agent tight end Brock Wright, according to a source. The Niners tried to pry Wright away from the Lions, but Detroit wasn't having it and will retain the 25-year-old as a backup to up-and-coming pass-catching tight end Sam LaPorta. If Wright had gone to the Bay Area, he would have served as a backup to George Kittle. The 25-year-old is mostly used as a blocker in the running game and isn't on the fantasy radar at all. The former undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame has only 43 receptions for 424 yards and seven touchdowns in three NFL seasons and had 13 catches (14 targets) for 91 yards and one touchdown in 14 regular-season games (four starts) in 2023.

Detroit Lions restricted free-agent tight end Brock Wright has signed an offer sheet from the San Francisco 49ers, according to sources. The Lions now have five days to match San Fran's offer for Wright after extending the 25-year-old a one-year, $2.98 million contract tender before the start of free agency. If Detroit chooses not to match the Niners' offer, Wright will head to the Bay Area in 2024 and serve as tight end depth behind George Kittle. Wright should be recovered in time for training camp this summer after breaking his left forearm in the playoff win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his third NFL season in 2023 with the Lions, Wright had only 13 receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown on 14 targets in 14 regular-season games (four starts).

Jan 24 7:40pm ET

The Detroit Lions officially placed tight end Brock Wright (forearm) on Injured Reserve and signed defensive lineman Tyson Alualu to the 53-man active roster from the practice squad and signed tight end Zach Ertz to the practice squad in corresponding moves. Wright will miss the rest of the postseason with a fractured forearm that he suffered in the Divisional Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The 25-year-old finished the regular season with only 13 catches for 91 yards and one touchdown in a backup role behind impressive rookie Sam LaPorta. Ertz will give the Lions some veteran depth the rest of the way, but it's unclear if he'll even be active in the NFC Championship this Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers. Anthony Firkser figures to be the primary backup behind LaPorta.

Jan 22 12:30pm ET

Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright (forearm) apparently suffered a broken forearm in Sunday's Divisional Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It's a tough break for Wright, as he had just come back to play against the Los Angeles Rams in the first round of the playoffs after suffering a hip injury in the Week 15 win over the Denver Broncos. Wright is now unlikely to play in the rest of the postseason. As a result, the Lions have signed veteran Zach Ertz for extra tight end depth behind rookie Sam LaPorta for the NFC Championship this Sunday night. Detroit also has Anthony Firkser as a backup option behind LaPorta. The 25-year-old Wright caught his only target for a big 29-yard gain in Sunday's win over the Bucs, and he finished the regular season with just 13 catches for 91 yards and one touchdown in his third NFL campaign.

Jan 19 4:20pm ET

Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright caught just 13 passes for 91 yards and a touchdown during the regular season, but if Sam LaPorta (knee) cannot suit up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, he will enter the DFS radar. LaPorta suffered a minor knee injury in the Week 18 win over the Minnesota Vikings, but he ultimately played and scored a touchdown in the win over the Los Angeles Rams in the first round of the NFL Playoffs. He logged a full practice on Wednesday this week but was downgraded to limited practices on Thursday and Friday. There's a chance he suffered a setback, which could explain why he's listed as questionable for the Divisional Round. If Wright draws the start, he could have limited upside, but he's a fine dart throw against a Tampa Bay defense that allowed the fourth-most fantasy points per game to the position in the regular season.

Jan 12 4:20pm ET

Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright (hip), who missed the final three games of the regular season due to a hip injury, practiced in full all week and has been cleared to play on Sunday night in the wild-card playoff contest against the Los Angeles Rams. Wright managed just 13 receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown in 14 games in 2023 in his third season with the Lions, but he could serve as the team's primary pass-catching tight end on Sunday if rookie Sam LaPorta (knee) doesn't get cleared to play through his questionable tag. The 25-year-old would still be more of a long shot for DFS lineups on wild-card weekend if LaPorta is inactive, but don't ignore the fact that the Rams defense allowed the fourth-most half-PPR points to opposing tight ends during the regular season.

Jan 11 9:50pm ET

Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright (hip) was able to get through a full practice session on Thursday. Wright has been able to get through two straight full practices, which is a great sign heading into this weekend. The 25-year-old could be asked to start with fellow tight end Sam LaPorta (knee) uncertain for Wild-Card weekend. Wright hasn't done much offensively this season with only 13 receptions for 91 yards. However, Wright could be a possible low-cost DFS option if LaPorta is unable to play.

Jan 10 3:40pm ET

Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright (hip) made his return to practice on Wednesday after missing the last three weeks of the regular season with a hip injury. Wright could earn a start in Sunday night's wild-card meeting with the Los Angeles Rams if rookie Sam LaPorta (knee) is held out. The 25-year-old doesn't have the same high-end catching ability as LaPorta, but he's a trusted veteran who earned most of the starts after T.J. Hockenson was traded to the Minnesota Vikings in the middle of last season. Wright had just 13 receptions on 14 targets for a career-low 91 yards and one touchdown in his third year for the Lions in 14 games during the regular season, but he could be worth a look as a low-cost sleeper at the tight end position in DFS lineups if LaPorta is inactive on Sunday evening.

Jan 5 5:00pm ET

Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright (hip) missed all three practices this week and has officially been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Minnesota Vikings. After playing the first 14 games this season, Wright has now missed three consecutive weeks, leaving some questions about his availability for the playoffs. Standout rookie Sam LaPorta will remain the top option at tight end, ranking as a solid mid-range TE1 in most fantasy football leagues.

Dec 29 1:00am ET

The Detroit Lions have ruled out tight end Brock Wright (hip) for Saturday's game against the Dallas Cowboys due to a hip injury from Week 15. Wright couldn't practice in any fashion ahead of Week 17, serving as the writing on the wall for his inability to suit up on Saturday against Dallas. The 25-year-old is more of a blocker, posting just 13 receptions on 14 targets for 91 yards and one touchdown in 14 games this season. Detroit's rushing attack didn't appear to suffer in any way during his Week 16 absence, though, scoring three times on the ground in last Sunday's division-clinching win over the Minnesota Vikings. 2022 fifth-round pick James Mitchell should act as the Lions' No. 2 tight end behind standout rookie Sam LaPorta, but he won't carry any fantasy usability against the Cowboys.

Dec 22 3:30pm ET

Detroit Lions tight end Brock Wright (hip) has been ruled out for Week 16. He missed all three practices this week. The 25-year-old has 13 catches, 91 yards, and one touchdown this season, operating as the clear backup tight end behind breakout rookie Sam LaPorta. Wright's absence will have no fantasy implications this week.
