San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey was named the 2025 NFL Comeback Player of the Year Award. He led the 49ers in both rushing and receiving yardage in 2025, totaling over 2,000 scrimmage yards after playing just four games in 2024.

Fantasy Spin: It was a wild season for CMC, who managed to stay mostly healthy while others around him fell like flies. He left the NFL with 413 total touches, and that's a bit of a red flag for fantasy managers heading into 2026. He has had a propensity for injury, and after such a heavy workload, the injury potential is likely for next season. Buyer beware when we get closer to draft time.

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey was named the 2025 Comeback Player of the Year on Thursday night, according to Matt Barrows of The Athletic. McCaffrey was limited to only four games in 2024 due to Achilles and knee issues, but he played in all 17 regular-season games in 2025 and led the 49ers in both rushing (1,202) and receiving yards (924). The four-time Pro Bowler and three-time first-team All-Pro handled a career-high 311 carries and scored 10 rushing touchdowns while also catching 102 passes on 129 targets with an additional seven trips to the end zone as a receiver. The Offensive Player of the Year in 2023 was the RB1 in half-PPR fantasy scoring this year after he slipped to the late first round of many drafts following his injury-plagued 2024 campaign. CMC is entering his age-30 campaign and has a lengthy injury history, but it's simply too hard to ignore his game-changing dual-threat abilities out of the backfield as the engine of San Fran's offense.

Feb 5 9:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey eclipsed 2,000 yards from scrimmage for the third time in his career in 2025, and in the seasons after his previous two 2,000-yard campaigns, he played in a combined seven games. 'You've got to be ready to play in the games as much as possible,' McCaffrey said. 'I'll do whatever it takes for this team.'

Fantasy Spin: McCaffrey handled a league-high 413 touches this season, and running backs that handle such a heavy workload don't always find the same success the following year. He is one of the most productive backs in league when healthy, but the injury potential is something to consider when selecting McCaffrey in 2026 drafts.

Jan 30 3:20pm ET

After playing in just four games in 2024 due to injury, San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey bounced back in a major way in 2025. The 29-year-old recorded 2,126 scrimmage yards and 17 touchdowns on a league-leading 413 touches across 17 games played. McCaffrey did not have his most efficient season as a rusher, averaging just 3.9 yards per carry. However, he more than made up for it with his work as a receiver, hauling in 102 receptions for 924 yards and seven scores on 129 targets. In 2026, McCaffrey will be in his age-30 season and will be coming off a massive workload, which are both valid reasons for fantasy managers to be concerned. Still, as long as McCaffrey is on the field, he's proven to be an elite running back option for fantasy managers in PPR-scoring formats. Additionally, with tight end George Kittle (Achilles) set to miss time in 2026 and wide receiver Jauan Jennings hitting free agency, San Francisco could lean even more heavily on its star running back.

San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy completed 15 of his 27 passes for 140 yards and an interception and rushed five times for 37 yards and lost a fumble in a 41-6 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round. RB Christian McCaffrey (stinger) dealt with a stinger but managed 11 carries for 35 yards and caught five passes for 39 yards, and RB Jordan James added six carries for 28 yards and caught a seven-yard pass. TE Jake Tonges (foot) caught five passes for a team-high 59 yards before exiting with a foot injury, and WR Jauan Jennings had two grabs for 23 yards. WR Ricky Pearsall and WR Kendrick Bourne were both targeted twice, but neither caught a pass, and WR Demarcus Robinson gained a yard on his only catch. LB Dee Winters tied for the team lead with nine tackles, including three tackles for loss, and LB Eric Kendricks also had nine stops. S Malik Mustapha chipped in eight tackles and a sack.

San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey (shoulder) exited with a stinger during the third quarter of Saturday's Divisional Round contest against the Seattle Seahawks. He was briefly listed as questionable to return, but he checked back into the game midway through the third quarter. The superstar running back took multiple hits throughout the first 30-plus minutes of game action, and he was seeing testing his injury on the sideline. At the time of his initial departure, McCaffrey had totaled nine carries, 29 rushing yards, five catches, and 39 receiving yards. Bad injury news has plagued the 49ers left and right. In addition to various defensive injuries throughout the regular season, San Francisco lost George Kittle (Achilles) last week, and Jake Tonges (foot) is currently listed as questionable to return against Seattle. For the time being, McCaffrey will try to play through his injury with the 49ers' season on the line. However, we wouldn't be surprised to see No. 2 running back Brian Robinson Jr. earn more snaps while McCaffrey manages his injury.

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (stinger) returned to the Divisional Round game against the Seattle Seahawks after exiting with a stinger.

Fantasy Spin: It looks like McCaffrey will try to play through the injury, but it remains to be seen if it will impact his effectiveness. Regardless, it looks like McCaffrey avoided any type of long-term injury.

Jan 17 10:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey (undisclosed) did not start the second half of the Divisional Round game against the Seattle Seahawks after being checked out by trainers at the end of the second quarter.

Fantasy Spin: The exact nature of the injury remains to be seen, but Brian Robinson Jr. should handle of a bulk of the backfield duties as long as McCaffrey is sidelined.

From TheHuddle

Jan 16 10:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers RB Christian McCaffrey faces the Seattle Seahawks in the Divisional Round, and McCaffrey gained 92 rushing yards on 30 carries in two meetings with Seattle in the regular season.

Fantasy Spin: Granted, McCaffrey also caught 15 passes for 107 yards in the two meetings, but he was held out of the end zone and couldn't find any running room. His heavy workload is going to result in a solid yardage total and plenty of receptions, but fantasy owners may want to think twice before building lineups around McCaffrey in playoff contests.
