Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (knee) has been a fully practicing during minicamp. That is a great sign after Smith suffered a torn meniscus in early September that ended his 2021 campaign. That being said, backup tight end Tyler Conklin stepped up and delivered without Smith on the field. However, Conklin signed with the New York Jets, so Smith is back to being the main tight end. Smith put together a promising season in 2020, so hopefully he can continue to develop. There's certainly top-12 PPR upside with Smith heading into next season.

Dynasty | Vikings tight end Irv Smith is expected back by the start of training camp Dynasty Analysis: Smith is nine months removed from the meniscus injury which derailed his 2021 season but while he's not yet 100% ready to go full speed, all indications are that he is very, very close. Still only 23, new head coach Kevin O'Connell expressed confidence that Smith would be ready and remains a "major part" of the what the offense wants to do this season while highlighting the need for his tight ends to also be willing and effective blockers. Smith ranked as the top tight end in run-blocking in his first two seasons. With little else behind him on the depth chart, it appears as though Irv Smith, DLF's TE17 has a long runway to production in 2022 as long has he remains healthy.

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (knee), who missed all of last year due to a right knee injury and still has not been cleared for full participation in organized team activities, is expected to have a big role in the offense in 2022. The Vikings goal is to have Smith ready for full participation at the start of training camp in late July. Minnesota let Jack Conklin walk in free agency and didn't address the position in the draft until the seventh round. "Some of the success he's had -- both with how we're going to use him and ultimately where he is at in his career -- he's ready to absorb all of this and be in a position to go play fast, go play with a bunch of confidence that he's going to be a major part of what we do. It's just making sure we're doing it in a really responsible way as he continues to progress back." The former second-rounder had just 66 passes in his first two seasons, and it's fair to wonder how many targets he'll actually get in a crowded Vikings offense.

The Minnesota Vikings coaching staff was transparent early this offseason that they'd be taking it slow with tight end Irv Smith Jr. (knee). However, Smith did look agile during his drills off to the side during organized team activities and was running routes almost at full speed. He is working his way back from a torn meniscus that kept him out for all of last season. It sounds like Smith is close to 100 percent, so he should be full-go at training camp this summer. Now that Tyler Conklin is out of town, the 23-year-old should be Minnesota's unquestioned No. 1 pass-catching tight end, which will make him an attractive sleeper selection at the position in an offense that is expected to become more pass-happy under new head coach Kevin O'Connell.

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (knee) said he expects to be full-go by training camp this summer. "That's the plan. I wouldn't put an exact 'this percent' or 'this percent,' because every day I'm getting stronger and faster," Smith said. He's easing into on-field work and wasn't running routes in the open portion of workouts earlier this week. Head coach Kevin O'Connell said the team would be smart about Smith's workload this offseason after he missed all of the 2021 season with a meniscus injury in his knee. Tyler Conklin is now with the Jets, so the 23-year-old Smith should have a big role in O'Connell's offense this season if he's healthy. Smith should come at a decent price and could be a nice TE1 value in 2022.

Minnesota Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell said that tight end Irv Smith Jr. (knee) is "right on schedule" in his recovery, and the Vikings aren't going to rush him as he returns from his knee injury. The 23-year-old may be held out of workouts this spring as a result after he missed all of last season with a meniscus injury that required surgery. However, Smith is on track to be the team's primary pass-catching tight end in 2022 if he's fully healthy. Tyler Conklin is no longer around, and only Johnny Mundt, Ben Ellefson and Zach Davidson remain in Minnesota's tight end room. In two seasons with the Vikings, Smith has 66 receptions on 90 targets for 676 yards and seven touchdowns, and he could be a great value pick at TE this upcoming season.

Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith Jr. (meniscus) won't be rushed back into action, head coach Kevin O'Connell said. "We're going to be smart with Irv," said the first-year leader of the coaching staff. "There's no reason why he can't hit the ground running from a mental perspective this spring." Smith, of course, missed all of 2021 due to a meniscus injury, ceding starting duties to Tyler Conklin. However, Conklin signed with the Jets earlier this month, paving the way for Smith to start in Minnesota as soon as he's healthy. There's legitimate upside with Smith, who figures to be on the TE1/TE2 border in 2022. In 2021, he caught 30 passes for 365 yards and five touchdowns.
