Veteran free-agent quarterback Brett Rypien is signing a one-year deal with the Chicago Bears, according to Ari Meirov of the 33rd Team. The 2019 undrafted free agent has thrown for 950 yards, four touchdowns, and nine interceptions in 10 career games with the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Rams. He spent time with the Seattle Seahawks and New York Jets last year but did not appear in a game. The Bears are expected to select Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, and Justin Fields is rumored to be on the trade block. That said, Rypien has a path to the backup role in 2024. Based on his career so far, he is not anywhere close to the fantasy radar.

Veteran quarterback Brett Rypien is being signed to the New York Jets active roster off of the Seattle Seahawks practice squad on Tuesday. The 27-year-old played in two games this year for the Los Angeles Rams, completing 18 of his 38 passing attempts for 172 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. New York also released Tim Boyle, so Rypien might have the chance to start ahead of Trevor Siemian and Zach Wilson in the near future. Although none of the Jets' quarterbacks have fantasy value in single-QB leagues, the starter will be rostered in superflex and two-quarterback formats. With the Jets likely falling out of playoff contention, it's becoming less likely that Aaron Rodgers (Achilles) will play again this season.

With the Los Angeles Rams set to sign quarterback Carson Wentz, the team waived quarterback Brett Rypien on Tuesday, according to a source. The move comes two days after Rypien made the Week 9 start against the Green Bay Packers for the injured Matthew Stafford (thumb). Rypien struggled in the 20-3 loss to the Packers at Lambeau Field on Sunday, completing just 13 of his 28 pass attempts for 130 yards, no touchdowns and an interception. He also fumbled twice, losing one of them. The Rams head into their bye in Week 10, but Stafford might not be ready to return after spraining the UCL in his right thumb in Week 8. If Stafford isn't cleared by then, Wentz will make his first appearance in the NFL since playing in eight games (seven starts) for the Washington Commanders in 2022.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Brett Rypien did not perform well during his first start of the season in the team's Week 9 loss to the Green Bay Packers. Filling in for Matthew Stafford (thumb), Rypien completed 13 of his 28 pass attempts for 130 yards and no touchdowns, while throwing one interception. The 27-year-old also rushed the ball three times for 19 yards on the ground. The offense could not consistently move the ball and the absence of Stafford was clear. Even if Rypien starts against Seattle in Week 10, he should not be on any 1QB league radars.
From RotoBaller
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (thumb) will officially be inactive in Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers. As a result, backup Brett Rypien will make the start under center, according to a source. Things had been trending this way ever since Stafford was diagnosed with a sprained UCL in his right thumb after getting hurt in the Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. The move from Stafford to Rypien will be a serious downgrade for LA's offense, especially for top pass-catchers Cooper Kupp and rookie Puka Nacua (knee), who is questionable to play with a knee injury. The Packers defense is pretty forgiving, but Rypien shouldn't be considered as anything more than a desperation low-end QB2 option for fantasy managers in superflex formats. With a bye coming in Week 10, there's a chance Stafford could be ready to go in Week 11.

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Brett Rypien will likely start on Sunday in Green Bay. Matthew Stafford (thumb) isn't expected to suit up. As a result, head coach Sean McVay will turn to Rypien, who went 5-for-10 for 42 yards after replacing Stafford in the Week 8 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Rypien isn't the worst signal-caller on the planet. However, fantasy managers will have a tough time trusting him, even with a favorable matchup on the horizon. Of course, Rypien's impending start may not be ideal for Cooper Kupp, who has 21 catches for 316 yards and a touchdown in four appearances this season.
From RotoBaller
Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford (right thumb) went to the locker room and was replaced by Brett Rypien during the third quarter of Week 8 versus the Dallas Cowboys. Stafford initially injured himself at the end of the first half, and although he returned to lead a touchdown drive at the start of the second half, it appears the injury continues to bother him. The Rams haven't provided an update on his status, but the bottom line is that Stafford is out of the game and Rypien has entered in his place. At the time of his departure, Stafford had completed 13 of 22 passes for 162 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.
