Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James could be in line for an increased workload if Vance McDonald (hip) is unable to suit up against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 13. McDonald was forced to leave Week 12's game early after he suffered a hip injury. Head coach Mike Tomlin told reporters that he expects McDonald to be limited in practice early in the week, which gives some hope that he will be able to gut it out on Sunday after taking it easy early in the week. If McDonald plays, he can be treated as a high-end TE2. If he sits, James will on the radar as a streaming candidate and a dirt-cheap DFS option in tournaments.
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jesse James caught two passes for 53 yards against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 9.
Fantasy Spin: James has been targeted three times or less in five of the last six games and is not a big part of the passing game. Owners in most leagues can avoid James moving forward.
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James was a hot waiver add last week after he turned in a career game in Week 2, catching five passes for 138 yards and a score. He was unable to replicate his success in Week 3, however, catching just one pass for seven yards. With Vance McDonald fully healthy now, it appears unlikely that James will see much work in the passing game. James is not a fantasy option against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 4 and should be back on waivers with McDonald taking over as the team's starter.
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jesse James posted just one reception for seven yards on his only target in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday, Sept. 24.
Fantasy Spin: Yuck. Vance McDonald got off to a huge start with a 75-yard stiff arm and score in the first quarter and James was a forgotten man in the offense. James and the Steelers will welcome the Ravens to town in Week 4. Treat James as a TE2 for that matchup.
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James is coming off a career day in Week 2. James finished with five catches for 138 yards and a touchdown against the Kansas City Chiefs. The big performance by James instantly propels him into the TE2 range in fantasy leagues going forward. He appears to have moved ahead of the oft-injured Vance McDonald in the target pecking order in Pittsburgh, which boosts his fantasy value. In Week 3, James will travel to Tampa Bay where he will take on the Buccaneers on Monday night. He can be treated as a mid-range TE2 for that matchup.
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James turned in one of the more surprising Week 2 performances, catching five passes for 138 yards and a touchdown in his team's 42-37 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. James was expected to take a backseat with Vance McDonald returning from injury. Instead, he went ahead and set a new career high in receiving yards. The veteran tight end is not known as a big play threat and this is likely to go down as his best game of the season. He will take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night in Week 3.
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jesse James posted five receptions for 138 yards and a touchdown on five targets in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Fantasy Spin: James, a yinzer from McKeesport, Penn., is going to be a fan favorite at this rate. Ben Roethlisberger loves to use the tight end, jelling for years with Heath Miller, and James is quickly emerging as a star. He'll try to keep it going in Week 3 against the Buccaneers on Monday night.
Pittsburgh Steelers tight end Jesse James caught three passes for 60 yards in his team's 21-21 tie with the Cleveland Browns in Week 1. James, who drew the start with Vance McDonald inactive, showed fantasy owners that the Browns did not fix their issues defending the opposition's tight ends in the offseason. While James can't be trusted as a fantasy starter going forward, he could have some appeal as a low-end streaming option if McDonald remains out. The Steelers will welcome the Kansas City Chiefs to town in Week 2.
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jesse James finished with three receptions for 60 yards on five targets in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns.
Fantasy Spin: Ben Roethlisberger loves utilizing his tight end, so James will always have some fantasy value as long as he is healthy. He isn't quite as productive as former stud tight end and fantasy favorite Heath Miller, but he is a decent low-end TE1 in fantasy leagues of 14 or more teams.
Pittsburgh Steelers TE Jesse James (back) suffered a back contusion against the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Aug. 25, according to head coach Mike Tomlin, but Tomlin said the severity of the injury is not yet known.
