2024 RTSports Outlook

A hip injury cut short his rookie season, but Thompson-Richardson got some playing time his first season in the league. He started three games but completed just 53.6 percent of his passes with a touchdown and four interceptions. He had his struggles. Thompson-Richardson is young, though, and can learn from his mistakes. He is the favorite to be the top backup for the Browns this season. Thompson-Richardson does well in the pocket and can be accurate when on time with his throws. He also can make plays with his legs. He struggles a little on deeper throws and isn't the best at reading converges.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Thompson-Richardson had issues when playing last year, but still has a little upside if he gets more starts because of his dual threat ability.

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (hip) is set to have a follow-up MRI exam on his hip on Monday, and if all goes as planned, he's hoping to be back out on the field during the team's minicamp next weekend. The 24-year-old signal-caller suffered a subluxation of his hip on Christmas Eve last season and missed the rest of the year, which prompted the Browns to add veteran QB Joe Flacco. Thompson-Robinson has made good progress this offseason and is close to being cleared to throw during the team's offseason workouts. The Browns aren't going to rush him, though, and when healthy, he's going to be buried on the QB depth chart in Cleveland behind Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston and Tyler Huntley.

Apr 2 2:30pm ET

Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry said on Tuesday that the team might slow play things with quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (hip) as the offseason program opens on April 15. However, Berry said the signing of former Baltimore Ravens backup Tyler Huntley on March 17 was independent of Thompson-Robinson's injury. Before his season-ending injury in 2023, Thompson-Robinson, a fifth-round pick out of UCLA, went 1-2 in his first three NFL starts, throwing for 440 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions. The Browns were happy with DTR's contributions as he was forced to step into a starting role in his rookie season. However, with Jameis Winston also in town, he's likely to begin training camp as the team's No. 4 QB.

Dec 26 12:40pm ET

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (hip) has been placed on injured reserve and will not return in 2023. The rookie made three starts and eight appearances this season, completing just 53.6 percent of his passes for 440 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions. He also rushed 14 times for an additional 65 yards on the ground. With Deshaun Watson (shoulder) done for the season, too, Cleveland will continue to deploy Joe Flacco as its starting quarterback. The Browns' backup signal-caller will be P.J. Walker, who was elevated to the active roster on Tuesday.

Dec 10 8:20am ET

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson cleared concussion protocol this week but is still expected to operate as the backup to Joe Flacco during Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The rookie has appeared in parts of five games this season, completing just 58 of 109 passes for 429 yards, one touchdown, and four interceptions, plus an additional 65 yards on the ground. Thompson-Robinson is off the fantasy radar while Flacco is a low-end QB2 option at the moment.

Dec 8 7:20pm ET

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) was able to practice in full on Friday and clear the league's concussion protocol, so he was removed from the final Week 14 injury report. However, head coach Kevin Stefanski has refused to name a starter between Thompson-Robinson and veteran Joe Flacco heading into Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. For what it's worth, Flacco was the first in line for drills in practices this week and didn't fall flat in his first start in 2023 in last week's loss to the Los Angeles Rams, throwing for over 200 yards and two touchdowns, although he did have a costly interception late. Regardless of who starts at QB for Cleveland, they'll be an unattractive low-end QB2 in superflex leagues and could be without top receiver Amari Cooper (concussion).

Dec 7 1:00pm ET

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) is practicing for the second straight day on Thursday, but he remains in the league's concussion protocol. He threw to practice-squad players during the portion of practice open to the media. Joe Flacco continues to work with the first-team offense and is fully expected to make his second straight start in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars this Sunday, even though the Browns have been mum on their starting QB for this week so far. The 24-year-old rookie was thrust into the starting role again in Week 11 when Deshaun Watson (shoulder) was lost for the season, but he suffered a concussion in Week 12 and was forced to sit out last week's loss to the Los Angeles Rams. As long as Flacco doesn't implode, Cleveland will likely opt for experience under center as they push for a playoff spot.

Dec 7 12:20pm ET

Cleveland Browns offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt said he believes that rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) is still in the league's concussion protocol and has one more box to check before being cleared. There has been no announcement yet on whether Joe Flacco will make a second straight start in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Even if Thompson-Robinson gets the green light to be active this Sunday, it seems more likely that the Browns will give Flacco another start after he looked decent with over 200 yards and two touchdown passes in the Week 13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. DTR was officially limited in Wednesday's practice and will likely be limited again on Thursday.

Dec 6 3:40pm ET

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said the team hasn't decided on their starting quarterback for Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. "We will see how it goes this week," Stefanski said. Rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) missed the Week 13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams and remains in the league's concussion protocol, but he is returning to practice on Wednesday. Meanwhile, veteran Joe Flacco, who threw for over 200 yards and two touchdowns in his 2023 debut last Sunday, was taking first-team repetitions at practice on Wednesday. Thompson-Robinson could get cleared from the concussion protocol this week and be active in Week 14, but all signs right now are pointing to Flacco making a second straight start for the Browns.

Dec 6 3:30pm ET

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) is expected to return to practice on Wednesday after sitting out the Week 13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams due to a concussion he suffered in Week 12. It remains to be seen who would start at QB between Thompson-Robinson and veteran Joe Flacco if the rookie is cleared from the concussion protocol in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. For what it's worth, Flacco was taking first-team repetitions on Wednesday. The Browns lost in a blowout on Sunday, but Flacco wasn't terrible and had 254 passing yards and two touchdowns, so the team could give him another start this weekend, even if DTR is available to play.

Dec 4 6:20pm ET

Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski said that rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol on Monday. Thompson-Robinson suffered a concussion in the Week 12 loss to the Denver Broncos and sat out in favor of veteran Joe Flacco in the Week 13 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The 24-year-old will likely go back to starting under center for the Browns when he's healthy, but he should be considered questionable, at best, to play in Week 14 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. In his first action of 2023, Flacco went 23-for-44 for 254 yards, two touchdowns and one interception in a serviceable performance after just recently being signed by Cleveland.

Nov 30 6:50pm ET

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol and missed practice on Thursday for the second straight day this week. Thompson-Robinson took a hard shot in late in the second half of the Week 12 loss to the Denver Broncos and never returned. The fact that he hasn't been able to get onto the practice field yet this week doesn't bode well for his chances of playing this Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams. Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that the recently signed Joe Flacco (and not P.J. Walker) is now the backup to Thompson-Robinson, so if DTR doesn't get the green light for Week 13, Flacco will make his 2023 debut for the Browns. Flacco would be nothing more than a desperation low-end QB2 in superflex leagues if he's given the starting nod.

Nov 29 3:50pm ET

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) is in the league's concussion protocol and will not practice on Wednesday. Thompson-Robinson suffered a concussion on a hard hit in the third quarter of the Week 12 loss against the Denver Broncos and was removed from the game in favor of P.J. Walker, who proceeded to fumble twice (one lost). Deshaun Watson (shoulder) is out for the year. Head coach Kevin Stefanski said that veteran Joe Flacco, who was signed last week, is now the backup to Thompson-Robinson. If the rookie doesn't get cleared from the concussion protocol this week, it appears that Flacco will make his first start of 2023 on Sunday against the Los Angeles Rams.

From RotoBaller

Nov 27 6:20pm ET

Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (concussion) left Sunday's 29-12 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday late in the second half with a concussion, but the Browns aren't making any firm plans on who will start at QB if he cannot play in Week 13 against the Los Angeles Rams. P.J. Walker replaced DTR on Sunday and went 6-for-13 for 56 yards while fumbling twice, losing one of them. Walker has played in six games (two starts) this year for Cleveland, but he hasn't been very good when called on, and the Browns recently signed veteran Joe Flacco to their practice squad after Deshaun Watson (shoulder) went on Injured Reserve. Flacco might not be much of an upgrade over Thompson-Robinson or Walker, but he has plenty of experience in big games late in the year. We'll have a better idea of DTR's status for Week 13 later this week.

Nov 26 7:10pm ET

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (head) won't return to Sunday's meeting with the Denver Broncos. The signal-caller took a brutal hit in the second half and was taken to the blue medical tent. Unfortunately, further tests revealed he suffered a concussion, so his day is over. That said, fantasy managers likely aren't shocked by the latest report, considering DTR had a bloody lip and looked visibly dazed. But now the question remains if he'll be available in Week 13 against the Los Angeles Rams. If not, P.J. Walker would likely stay under center.

Nov 26 6:50pm ET

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson (head) exited Sunday's matchup against the Broncos. The signal-caller took a hard shot in the second half and was taken to the blue medical tent for a concussion evaluation. However, he looked visibly dazed and was sporting a lip laceration, meaning his day could be over. For now, DTR is questionable to return. But if he's ruled out, he'll finish with 134 yards and a touchdown off 14-for-29 passing while adding five carries for 21 yards. In the meantime, PJ Walker came in to take over under center.

From RotoBaller

Nov 25 8:40am ET

Cleveland Browns quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson will make his third career start on the road against the Denver Broncos in Week 12. Thompson-Robinson acted as a game manager in a Week 11 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, attempting 43 passes but just 3.84 yards per attempt. He draws a favorable matchup against a Denver defense that is allowing the 10th-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks in 2023. That being said, Denver's defense has shown improvement in recent weeks after a rough start to the season. Thompson-Robinson is only a fantasy option as a second quarterback in superflex formats heading into Week 12.
