2020 RTSports Outlook

Ross had a great start to his season last year, topping the 100-yard mark each of his first two games. He didn't hit that mark the rest of the year, though and suffered a chest injury Week 4, which derailed the rest of his season. Ross finished with 506 yards and three scores in eight games. Ross showed his big-play potential, averaging 18.1 yards per reception. He is likely No. 4 on the depth chart for the Bengals this year. Ross is a home-run threat at receiver. He possesses top speed and can separate in a hurry. He can also turn a short pass play into a big play. He does lack a little size and strength, though, and has lacked consistency to start his career.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Ross will have some big games, but expect inconsistent production. He will be hit or miss most weeks. Expect around 30 receptions for 500 yards and three touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross III has battled numerous ailments during his tenure in the league, missing 24 games throughout his first three seasons as a professional. After capturing 16 receptions for 328 yards and three touchdowns during the first month of the 2019 season, the 24-year-old suffered a groin injury, keeping him off the field once again until Week 14. While he did manage to secure six targets for 84 yards during the overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 16, he wasn't able to recapture the magic from earlier in the year that made him a potential fantasy breakout. Now, with the organization declining his Ross' fifth-year option, he may have one more shot to secure a spot on the Cincinnati roster moving ahead. He will have his work cut out of him, however, as A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd, and the newly drafted Tee Higgins will all be looking for the attention of rookie quarterback Joe Burrow. He is still worth a late-round draft pick, but prepare to be disappointed while also hoping for the best from the speedster this upcoming season.

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross averaged 7.3 yards after the catch in 2019 - tied for the fourth-highest average in the league among players who amassed 50 targets last season.

From TheHuddle

May 18 5:20pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver John Ross III could be in store for one of the most impactful seasons of his career. After starting the 2019 campaign as one of the league's best wideouts by compiling 13 catches (26 targets) for 292 yards and three scores throughout the first three weeks, including six receptions for 20-plus yards, the 24-year-old suffered an injured shoulder. After appearing in only eight contests, as a result, the former 2017 first-round pick is hoping to develop a stable rapport with rookie quarterback Joe Burrow in addition to remaining healthy. With Joe Mixon, A.J. Green, Tyler Boyd, and the newly drafted Tee Higgins, Ross could have some extra breathing room to make some big plays throughout the year, causing him to potentially exceed his current ADP of 183rd overall in PPR formats.

May 2 7:40pm ET

The Cincinnati Bengals have informed wide receiver John Ross III that they are declining his fifth-year option, according to a source. Ross will become an unrestricted free agent after the 2020 season. The Bengals took the 25-year-old with the ninth overall pick in the 2017 draft mainly because of his blazing speed. Ross is still fast, but he's had trouble staying on the field because of injuries, playing in 24 games with 19 starts in his first three seasons. He certainly has breakaway speed and field-stretching ability, but he's been wildly inconsistent, catching 49 passes for 716 yards and 10 touchdowns since '17. He could face competition from rookie Tee Higgins in 2020, too, behind A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd. It makes Ross a dart throw with upside late in drafts with non-PPR scoring.

May 2 5:53pm ET

Cincinnati Bengals WR John Ross will not have his fifth-year option exercised this offseason, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Ross is scheduled to be a free agent next offseason since his option will not be picked up. He probably will compete with Tee Higgins for the No. 3 receiver job during training camp. He could be a late round option in deeper leagues but likely will not have a lot of fantasy value.

From TheHuddle

May 1 6:00am ET

The Cincinnati Bengals have yet to exercise the fifth-year option on wide receiver John Ross III. The oft-injured wideout has been unable to remain healthy throughout his three years in the league but still managed to accrue 506 yards and three touchdowns off of 28 catches last season despite appearing in only eight contests. He is slated to earn $15.9 million; however, since the cash isn't guaranteed, the team could get out of the deal before the start of the 2021 league year.
