Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Lions) is working out for the Houston Texans Tuesday, Sept. 24.

The Detroit Lions released running back C.J. Anderson on Tuesday and claimed running back Paul Perkins off waivers from the Giants in a corresponding move. If anything, this is good news for Kerryon Johnson, who lost five carries to Anderson, five to rookie Ty Johnson and two to J.D. McKissic in the Week 2 win over the Chargers. It doesn't mean that Detroit won't still include Ty Johnson and McKissic moving forward, though, and Kerryon Johnson will be more of a low-end RB2 on Sunday against a tough Eagles defensive front. Ty Johnson's outlook in dynasty and deep leagues just got a lot better as the No. 2.

Detroit Lions RB C.J. Anderson was released Tuesday, Sept. 17. Free-agent RB Paul Perkins (Giants) was signed to an undisclosed contract to replace him on the roster.

Detroit Lions running back C.J. Anderson will likely see around 10 touches in Week 1 against the Arizona Cardinals. From a fantasy perspective, 10 touches is just not enough and he will only be valuable if he scores a touchdown, which is not very likely. Anderson will back up Kerryon Johnson all season as long as Johnson remains healthy; if Johnson does happen to get injured, Anderson will become an interesting option.

Aug 25 12:45pm ET

Detroit Lions running back C.J. Anderson finds himself backing-up one of the highest upside young running backs, Kerryon Johnson, this year after signing a one year deal with the Lions. Anderson should see around 10 touches per game and has the chance of seeing some goal line touches but has little upside as long as Johnson isn't injured. For that reason, Anderson doesn't offer all that much fantasy value other than in deep leagues (12+ teams). If Johnson is to get injured, Anderson's fantasy value goes up significantly; he may become a middle of the road RB2 option.

Aug 25 12:22pm ET

Detroit Lions running back C.J. Anderson was able to gather 24 yards on eight rushing attempts and 17 yards on two catches during the Lions third preseason game against the Bills. Anderson has proven that he is solid running back but his touches this season are currently unpredictable. If the Lions decide to let Kerryon Johnson take charge, Anderson could see very little touches but if the Lions are careful with Johnson throughout the season, Anderson could be very valuable to any fantasy team. Following touch counts throughout the first couple of weeks will be essential in predicting fantasy value for the rest of the season for Anderson.

Detroit Lions RB Zach Zenner could challenge veteran RB C.J. Anderson for the No. 2 spot behind RB Kerryon Johnson, in the opinion of The Detroit News' Justin Rogers, who notes that Zenner's north-south running style is a good fit for the team's blocking scheme.

Fantasy Spin: At this point, Johnson is the only sure thing in the Lions backfield, so you'll need to keep an eye on the preseason to see how Anderson, Zenner and Theo Riddick slot in behind him to see if anyone other than Johnson warrants a selection in fantasy drafts.

From TheHuddle

Jun 2 7:03pm ET

Detroit Lions RB C.J. Anderson said he believes Detroit is a perfect fit for him because of the success offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell has had with running backs in the past.

Fantasy Spin: Anderson likely will not start for the Lions but could receive a handful of touches each game. He may be a late-round pick in some leagues or a handcuff to Kerryon Johnson but will be on the bench most weeks.
