San Francisco 49ers DL Dee Ford (back), LB Dre Greenlaw (quadriceps), CB Emmanuel Moseley (concussion), TE Jordan Reed (knee) and CB K'Waun Williams (hip) didn't participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 30. CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) practiced in full.

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Dee Ford (neck) will be placed on Injured Reserve with a neck issue. Ford suffered the injury in Week 1 and hasn't played since. It's unclear how long he'll be out, but he'll be forced to miss at least the next three weeks while on IR. San Francisco's defense has been hurt by injuries early in the 2020 season, most notably with the season-ending injury to star pass-rusher Nick Bosa (knee) in Week 2. Although the 49ers Defense doesn't have as much season-long upside now, they remain a strong starting unit for fantasy managers in a Week 4 matchup against an Eagles Defense that is injured and out of sorts right now.

Free-agent DB Nevelle Clarke (Vikings), DB Tino Ellis (Saints) and DB Teez Tabor (49ers) tried out for the Miami Dolphins Tuesday, Sept. 29.

The San Francisco 49ers Defense may have sustained significant blows by losing Nick Bosa (knee) and Solomon Thomas (knee) for the remainder of the season in Week 2, but that didnt stop them from looking strong against the Giants in Week 3. Looking ahead, theyll face a rocky Eagles offense that has had to answer questions about Carson Wentzs starting quarterback status since Sunday, with a Dolphins squad two weeks away that is quarterbacked by Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has tossed three interceptions this season. While their status as the preeminent defensive unit may have taken a step back, San Francisco still unquestionably has a defense worth rostering and deploying on a weekly basis until the group proves otherwise.

San Francisco 49ers DE Dee Ford (back) will not be able to play in Week 4 and may be a candidate for the Reserve/Injured list, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Sep 27 5:00pm ET

The 49ers Defense suffocated Daniel Jones and company in the team's 36-9 win over the New York Giants in Week 3. The 49ers came up with an interception, two fumble recoveries and two sacks in the game. They held the Giants to just 231 total yards. It was an especially encouraging performance following the loss of star defensive end Nick Bosa (ACL) last week. The 49ers Defense should remain a solid starting fantasy option next week as they face the Philadelphia Eagles.

TE George Kittle (knee) was limited in practice all week and has also been ruled out. CB Ahkello Witherspoon (hamstring) was limited in practice Friday and is listed as questionable. San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee), DE Dee Ford (back), QB Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), LB Dre Greenlaw (quadricep) and RB Raheem Mostert (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 24. TE George Kittle (knee) was limited. CB CB Jason Verrett (hamstring) practiced in full.

The 49ers Defense should be in position to have a solid fantasy output in Week 3, despite losing star defensive end Nick Bosa (ACL) for the season. The 49ers have a plethora of injuries on offense and that will likely lead to a defensive battle in Week 3 against the New York Giants. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has three interceptions through two games and has been sacked seven times. Expect the 49ers to hold the Giants under 20 points while also forcing some turnovers, making them a solid starting option in Week 3.

San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee), DE Dee Ford (back) and RB Raheem Mostert (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 23. LB Dre Greenlaw (quadriceps) was limited during practice, while CB Jason Verrett (hamstring) fully participated in practice.

Sep 23 1:00pm ET

The San Francisco 49ers signed pass-rusher Ziggy Ansah on Wednesday and promoted defensive lineman Dion Jordan to the active roster after they placed defensive ends Nick Bosa (knee) and Solomon Thomas (knee) on Injured Reserve. San Francisco is bringing in some replacements with Dee Ford (back) also out for Week 3 against the Giants. Ansah and Jordan will try to pick up the slack alongside Arik Armstead, DJ Jones and rookie Javon Kinlaw, but the Niners defense lost the heart and soul of their pass rush with Bosa. It'll make them a little less attractive in season-long leagues, but the 49ers Defense is still worth trotting out there in fantasy lineups this Sunday against a Giants offense now missing Saquon Barkley and Sterling Shepard, arguably their two best offensive weapons.

From RotoBaller

Sep 23 12:13pm ET

Free-agent DE Ziggy Ansah (Lions) officially signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers Wednesday, Sept. 23. Terms weren't disclosed. DE Dion Jordan was promoted from the practice squad. DE Nick Bosa (knee) and DT Solomon Thomas (knee) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list.
