2019 RTSports Outlook

Jones was a big disappointment his rookie year, rushing 23 times for 44 yards. He averaged just 1.9 yards per carry and couldn't beat out Peyton Barber for more playing time. Jones is not guaranteed going anything going forward. He will get a chance to win the starter's job but after last year, that might be a long shot for Jones. He really struggled with his chances last year. Jones is an electric back with big-time big-play ability. He has great moves and vision. He lacks some ideal size to be a three-down back and does not make many big plays after contact.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Jones will go much lower in drafts this year after his disappointing rookie season. We wouldn't write him off just yet because he is really young and talented, but proceed with caution. The Bucs are not going to just hand him work. Take him as a reserve back and hope for big step forward. He can get around 600 total yards with a few scores.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Peyton Barber is the team's most experienced running back, and the new offensive staff has been very complimentary of him after breaking down his film over the last couple of seasons. According to Mark Cook of PewterReport.com, it would be a shock if Barber doesn't come out of camp as the starting running back over Ronald Jones.

Fantasy Spin: It's not a surprising take because Barber is the incumbent, but it flies in the face of what owners have heard coming out of Florida this offseason. The fact of the matter is the job is most likely for the taking by whichever running back shows best in preseason action. Barber became the first back since 2013 to amass fewer than 1,000 yards on more than 250 touches last season, so it's not as if he set the world on fire either. Jones will get his shot to start; he just has to take advantage of it.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones 'received only raves' from the new coaching staff, according to Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, who noted his standout spring came without pads.

Fantasy Spin: Jones has been among the most hyped players this offseason and is reportedly tipping the scales at 221 pounds after playing around 208 as a rookie last season. Owners still need to remain skeptical he will break out in 2019, but the talent is there and Peyton Barber isn't the most impossible obstacle to overcome if Jones can carry over his performance from spring workouts to training camp and beyond. For the moment, owners should view him as a high-upside flex option.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones said he added muscle this offseason, going from 208 to 221 pounds. 'I've been training with my guy, eating four or five meals a day, protein shakes right after workouts,' Jones said. 'I'm bigger.'

Fantasy Spin: Following a miserable rookie campaign, it has been nothing but positive news surrounding Jones this offseason. He still has to prove himself in games that actually matter, but he's worth a flier as a RB4.

Jun 28 1:53pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones is a strong candidate to have a breakout season in 2019, according to NFL Network analyst Terrell Davis. 'Bucs running backs coach Todd McNair said during minicamp earlier this month that Jones looks more like the player the Bucs took in the second round than the one on the field last fall,' Davis wrote in a Tuesday, June 25 article on NFL.com. 'This is an encouraging report heading into next month's training camp. He's talented, explosive and is going to get his opportunities to win the starting job over Peyton Barber. If he performs to his ability, Jones could lock up the RB1 gig before too long.'

Fantasy Spin: Jones, a 2018 second-round pick, was a huge rookie bust, finishing with only 77 yards and a TD on 30 touches last season. Davis, though, is right about Jones' potential in a new offense, and is legitimate RB4/5 flyer with upside.

Jun 23 11:43pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones said he is focused on putting last year behind him and earning his opportunities going forward. Jones also said that he has spent more time watching the veteran backs to learn how to be a pro and has simplified how he catches passes.

Fantasy Spin: Jones has received positive marks from the coaching staff this offseason, and it sounds like he is trying to put his disastrous rookie season behind him. Of course, it remains to be seen if he will ever produce on the field, but if he puts it all together, he could take over the Tampa Bay backfield and emerge as a RB2. He's a great lottery ticket to grab later in drafts.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said running back Ronald Jones II has impressed the coaches the most this spring. The second-round pick was a disaster in his rookie season, playing in just nine games and rushing 23 times for just 44 yards (1.9 yards per rush) and one touchdown. Jones should have a bigger role in the backfield alongside Peyton Barber in 2019 with Jacquizz Rodgers no longer in the picture, but fantasy owners in redraft leagues will likely want to see it before they believe it.

Apr 16 2:03pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones has impressed the team this offseason, general manager Jason Licht said Tuesday, April 16.

Fantasy Spin: Jones, a second-round selection last season out of USC, was a rookie bust last season, rushing for all of 44 yards and a TD on 23 carries. Jones can hardly go anywhere but up, but don't be surprised if the Bucs draft another running back next week.

Mar 2 10:03pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones' chances 'were slim and none' last year, according to head coach Bruce Arians. 'I think like every time he got the ball, someone was catching him right in the backfield,' Arians said.

Fantasy Spin: Although the offensive line didn't do Jones any favors, his abysmal numbers are hard to justify under any circumstances. He's no more than a late-round lottery ticket at this point.

From TheHuddle

Feb 25 7:43pm ET

Tampa Bay Buccaneers RB Ronald Jones is expected to receive a bigger offensive role next season.

Fantasy Spin: Jones played in only nine games this season and recorded only 77 total yards and one touchdown. Owners can keep an eye on the situation during the offseason, but he probably will not be drafted in most leagues.
