The San Francisco Giants gave the sense that they'd be interested in trading for New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. as the season ended, and that sense still persists halfway into February. They've had real interest in OBJ for almost a year, but the question is whether the Giants would actually consider trading him after signing him to a big extension last fall. San Fran holds the second and 36th overall picks of this year's draft. The Niners are looking to bolster their receiving corps after Marquise Goodwin failed to live up to expectations as the No. 1 wideout in 2018. The Steelers' Antonio Brown could be a target, too, but he comes with a lot of baggage and the 49ers might prefer Beckham. OBJ is younger and has just as much talent as Brown, and a move to the bay area with quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and head coach Kyle Shanahan would make Beckham even more appealing as an elite WR1.

Feb 3 12:53pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo is working to recover from the ACL tear that cut his 2018 season short, and his progress has impressed head coach Kyle Shanahan. 'He looks good, I'm not allowed to be working with him right now, but I was in the office a couple of days ago, I was stalking him while watching him out my window,' Shanahan said Friday, Feb. 1, during an interview with San Francisco radio station KNBR. 'He actually surprised me, he was running around, throwing, doing some stuff out of the pocket. I even had to call our trainer and ask 'should he be moving that much?' and he said he should be. It's cool to see.'

Fantasy Spin: By all continuing indications, Garoppolo's rehab progress appears to be ahead of schedule, and he'll be a solid QB1 sleeper candidate in drafts this summer.

Jan 23 8:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) hopefully will be able to participate in organized team activities this offseason, according to general manager John Lynch. Lynch said Garoppolo has not had any setbacks during his rehab.

Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo probably will be limited this offseason but could be on the field for some workouts if things continue to go well in his recovery. He likely will be ready for the start of the 2019 season and could be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Jan 22 12:53pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) was throwing passes to RB Jerick McKinnon (knee) recently, 49ers general manager John Lynch said Tuesday, Jan. 22, in an interview.

Fantasy Spin: All appears to be going well in the recovery of Garoppolo, who was injured in Week 3. There are sure to be plenty of updates upcoming throughout the offseason, but expect Garoppolo to be ready for training camp.

Dec 19 11:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) may be able to participate in some offseason workouts in May and June, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan.

Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo will have the entire offseason to recover from his torn anterior cruciate ligament and should be ready for the start of training camp. He has had some success since joining the 49ers and could be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues in 2019.

Nov 24 10:43pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) was recently able to walk without using crutches, according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, and Shanahan said the next step in Garoppolo's recovery will be clearance to travel with the team for road games.

Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo's rehab continues to go as planned, which is the best fantasy owners can hope for at this point. Keep him stashed in dynasty formats.

Oct 7 10:43am ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) is expected to have a relatively obstacle-free rehab process following surgery to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament, according to a source. The ACL was the only thing that needed to be repaired even though additional minor damage was discovered in the knee.

Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo should be completely healthy by the start of the 2019 season and is worthy of being retained in keeper and dynasty fantasy formats.

Oct 6 12:20am ET

San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said he was told that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo's (knee) surgery on Wednesday to fix a torn ACL went "as good as it could've," and Shanahan is hopeful that the quarterback can be available for part of the offseason program on a limited basis. Barring any setbacks, Garoppolo should be ready for next training camp and the start of the 2019 season, where he'll likely be a high-end QB2 in fantasy drafts.

Oct 5 9:33pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo's (knee) surgery went 'as good as it could've,' according to head coach Kyle Shanahan, and Shanahan is hopeful that Garoppolo can participate in OTAs in some capacity.

Fantasy Spin: As long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks along the way, Garoppolo should be ready for the start of next season. Despite the injury, he remains a valuable asset in dynasty formats.

Oct 4 12:43am ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) underwent surgery to repair his torn ACL on Wednesday, Oct. 3.

Fantasy Spin: Obviously Jimmy G is done for 2018, but he should be good to go once the 2019 campaign rolls around. He's worth retaining in all keeper leagues.

Oct 3 6:20pm ET

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) underwent surgery Wednesday to repair his torn left ACL. Garoppolo suffered the season-ending injury in Week 3 but couldnt go under the knife until swelling subsided. The estimated timetable for his return is nine to 10 months, which puts him on track to be ready during training camp. Premature comebacks are the biggest risk to reinjury so the Niners will be careful with their franchise quarterback. Garoppolo will be 28 years old entering the 2019 season and should retain value in dynasty leagues. In nine games with the 49ers, he holds a 64.7% completion percentage for 2,278 yards, 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Second-year quarterback C.J. Beathard is the 49ers starter until further notice.

Sep 26 3:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) was placed on the Reserve/Injured list Wednesday, Sept. 26. QB Nick Mullens was signed to the active roster from the practice squad in a corresponding move.

Sep 24 4:30pm ET

The San Francisco 49ers are bringing in free-agent quarterback Tom Savage for a workout on Monday, according to a source. Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) tore his ACL in the Week 3 loss to the Chiefs, so the Niners need more depth at the position behind C.J. Beathard, who will now be the starter. Savage won't be much of a fantasy option even if he finds himself playing in 2018.

Sep 24 3:23pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) has been diagnosed with a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season.

Fantasy Spin: C.J. Beathard is expected to replace him in the lineup. It's a crushing blow for a team that was supposed to take a huge step forward in 2018. While Beathard proved to be capable of times last season, he is unlikely to be anything more than a low-end QB2 in fantasy moving forward, and his promotion is a downgrade for the entire offense.

Sep 24 3:20pm ET

An MRI exam on Monday confirmed that San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) has a torn ACL, according to a source. He will miss the rest of the 2018 season. It's a really big blow to a team that lost running back Jerick McKinnon to the same injury before the season even started. Garoppolo can now be safely dumped in single-year formats. In his place, C.J. Beathard will take over under center. As a result, you'll need to downgrade any San Fran pass-catchers in fantasy. The Chargers defense/special teams will be back in the picture as a strong play in Week 4.

Sep 23 5:13pm ET

Updating a previous report, San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) might have suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in Week 3 against the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Kyle Shanahan said Sunday, Sept. 23. 'It doesn't look good,' one teammate said.

Fantasy Spin: Garoppolo will go for an MRI on Monday, so hopefully the news ends up better than the initial fears. His left knee buckled while running along the sidelines on a non-contact situation, trying to juke before he was touched by a defender. C.J. Beathard will take over if Garoppolo is indeed forced to the shelf.

Sep 23 4:50pm ET

Updating a previous report, the San Francisco 49ers fear that quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) is dealing with an ACL injury after he was carted off in the Week 3 loss to the Chiefs. A torn ACL would be devastating for the Niners and Garoppolo, as it'd end his season. Garoppolo went 20-for-30 for 251 yards and two touchdowns before his injury. The Niners will know more about the extent of his injury on Monday, so stay tuned. If he's out for an extended period of time, C.J. Beathard would take over under center. That'd mean fantasy downgrades for all of the team's pass-catchers.

Sep 23 4:43pm ET

San Francisco 49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo (knee) was carted off the field during the Week 3 game after he suffered knee injury.

Fantasy Spin: It appeared that Garoppolo suffered a non-contact injury, so he may be dealing with a serious injury. Owners should know more about his status in the next day or two. C.J. Beathard would take over the starting job if Garoppolo misses any time but is not a great fantasy option.

Sep 23 4:40pm ET

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo suffered a knee injury and was carted off the field. While dashing towards the end zone during Sunday's matchup against Kansas City, the former New England Patriot appeared to tweak his left knee after making a cut and running into cornerback Steven Nelson. Though the severity of the injury is unknown at this time, he was in obvious pain with the initial concern being that the injury is to his ACL.

From RotoBaller

Sep 23 1:00pm ET

Kansas City Chiefs safety Eric Berry (heel) is inactive in Week 3 against the 49ers. Berry hasn't practiced since early August and doesn't appear to be anywhere close to rejoining the team. His absence continues to be felt in a poor KC secondary, and they are in line to be roasted for the third straight week by 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and company. Running back Darrel Williams is a healthy scratch.
