Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams' ability to catch contested passes has QB Tyrod Taylor excited, and Taylor said that 50-50 balls are 'more like 70-30 or 80-20' balls when throwing to Williams.
Fantasy Spin: Although he scored just twice, Williams is coming off a 2019 season when he set career highs in catches and yards and led the NFL with 20.4 yards per reception. Losing Philip Rivers at quarterback isn't ideal, but Williams' big-play ability allows him to turn a couple of catches into a big performance. He is still worth grabbing as a WR3.
Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams ranked second in yards while catching 47 percent of tight-window throws sent in his direction in 2019.
Fantasy Spin: Williams led the NFL with 20.4 yards per receptions last year but caught just 49 of 90 targets overall. He finished with a career-best 1,001 yards. His upside may be hampered at the beginning of the season with QB Tyrod Taylor expected to be the Week 1 starter, but he should be stashed until rookie Justin Herbert gets his chance. He should be viewed as a WR3 with some early regression in store with the QB change from Philip Rivers.
Philadelphia Eagles WR Alshon Jeffery picked up a first down on 83.7 percent of his catches last season, tying the Los Angeles Chargers' Mike Williams for the best mark in the league among players with at least 40 targets.
Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams faced a double team on a league-high 7.8 percent of his routes in 2019.
Los Angeles Chargers WR Mike Williams said he is looking to post 1,300 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns this upcoming season.
Fantasy Spin: Williams posted his first 1,000-yard season in 2019 and appears to have a good chance to improve on his status in 2020. He will be working with a new quarterback but should still be at least a No. 3 receiver in fantasy leagues.
The Los Angeles Chargers have picked up the fifth-year option on WR Mike Williams, who is now under contract with the team through the 2021 season.
Fantasy Spin: Williams is coming off his first 1,000-yard season with the Chargers, who will have a new quarterback under center in 2020. Consider Williams a low-end WR3 or flex option in fantasy football drafts this summer.
The Los Angeles Chargers exercised the fifth-year option on wide receiver Mike Williams on Thursday, according to a source. There was never much question that the Bolts would pick up William's option for the 2021 season after he reached the 1,000-yard receiving mark in 2019 in his third year in the league. However, Williams only caught 49 passes and scored two touchdowns despite averaging a league-high 20.4 yards per catch. The seventh overall pick in 2017 had 10 touchdowns in his sophomore year in 2018. He's great for those in standard-scoring formats, but he leaves a lot to be desired in PPR leagues if he's not scoring touchdowns. With Tyrod Taylor likely under center to start the 2020 season, Williams' fantasy stock could be even more boom or bust.
