New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton had a promising first start with his new team in Week 1. He completed 15 of 19 passes for 155 yards and rushed 15 times for 75 yards and two touchdowns. However, it was against the Miami Dolphins below average defense, so it's not time to get carried away here. Newton has the potential to be a QB1 this season, assuming he can stay healthy. He'll have a tougher matchup this week against the Seattle Seahawks Defense. Newton should be able to be trusted as a QB1, assuming he can continue to get it done with his legs.

Sep 14 1:20pm ET

The New England Patriots completely overhauled their offense to best suit quarterback Cam Newton, and it was on display in the Week 1 win over the Dolphins with a run-heavy offense with plenty of zone reads and quarterback keepers. Newton led the team in rushing on Sunday, taking 15 carries for 75 yards and two rushing scores. The 15 totes were the most by a QB under head coach Bill Belichick and were the second-most of Newton's career (17 carries in 2014). New England ran the ball 42 times for 217 yards, averaging 5.2 yards per carry and three rushing touchdowns. They ran the ball or used play-action on 82.5 percent of their offensive plays. But when he did throw, Newton completed 78.9 percent of his passes. The former MVP can put up points with his arm and legs, but he's also injury-prone with a much lower ceiling given the Pats' options at receiver. He'll continue to be a high-upside QB2 heading into Week 2 against Seattle.

Sep 14 1:20am ET

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton looked good during his debut with the team. He completed 15 of 19 passes for 155 yards and rushed for 75 yards on 15 carries with two touchdowns on the ground. Newton looked healthy and was an elite short yardage passer in this one. To be fair, it was against a pretty awful Miami Dolphins Defense. There is potential for Newton to be a QB1 this season, but we'll see how he does against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2. Newton is expected to have a little less value in that one.

Sep 13 4:53pm ET

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton went 15-for-19 for 155 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. He also rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries during the game.

Fantasy Spin: Newton was not asked to do much in the passing game but was a big factor with his legs against the Dolphins. He is a productive fantasy option when he is healthy but will be facing a good Seattle Seahawks defense next week. He should be a starting option in two-quarterback leagues but will be a risky starting option in standard leagues.

Sep 9 4:00pm ET

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton was unsurprisingly named starter earlier this week. The 31-year-old has battled injuries the last couple of seasons, but appears to be healthy now. Newton doesn't have great weapons in New England, but should be able to produce as a QB2. He'll have high-end upside as possibly a QB1, assuming he can stay healthy. His first matchup will be against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1. He'll get a favorable matchup here as the Dolphins allowed the second most fantasy points to quarterbacks last year. There's always the risk of injury with Newton, so fantasy owners should approach with caution. On paper, Newton is a high-end QB2 for Week 1 against Miami.

Sep 5 12:40am ET

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton said he's not taking his new opportunity as the starting signal-caller of the Patriots for granted. Newton was also named a team captain. "Anything they ask of me to do, it's my job to do it," Newton said. The former MVP with the Panthers took it as a compliment to be named the starting QB by a coach who has the most Super Bowl rings in NFL history. Unlike Brady, the 31-year-old doesn't excel in the pocket, but he often extends plays with his legs and improvisational skills. Injury issues the last two seasons and an underwhelming receiving corps behind Julian Edelman push him out of the QB1 conversation, but he's a high-end QB2 if he's healthy with a coach that will surely cater the offense to his strengths.

From RotoBaller

Sep 3 4:20pm ET

The New England Patriots officially named quarterback Cam Newton the starting QB on Thursday in a team meeting, according to a source. Newton was also named as one of the team's captains for 2020, so he seems to be fitting in just fine with his new squad. The former MVP was basically a lock for the starting gig once Jarrett Stidham was injured in training camp, but now it's official. There are injury concerns surrounding the 31-year-old former Panther and New England has a young and inexperienced receiving corps behind Julian Edelman, but Newton will have a solid offensive line in front of him and the benefit of Bill Belichick scheming the offense for him. If healthy, there's still upside in the dual-threat talent, making Newton a high-end QB2 for fantasy owners.

Sep 3 4:03pm ET

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton has been named the team's starting quarterback for Week 1, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Newton was able to beat out Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for the job during camp. He has struggled with injuries over the last several seasons but has posted solid numbers when he is healthy. Fantasy players probably should consider Newton a high-end No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues this season.

From TheHuddle

Aug 31 7:43pm ET

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton did not participate in practice Monday, Aug. 31, because of an excused absence, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Newton is considered the leading candidate for the starting job, but the team has not named the starter yet. He posts solid numbers when he is healthy but has dealt with injures over the last several seasons. He should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback if he wins the job.

From TheHuddle

Aug 27 7:00pm ET

New England Patriots quarterback Cam Newton was intercepted by Terrence Brooks for the second consecutive day during practice Thursday. While reports out of Patriots camp are that Newton has continued to impress in his attempt to become the teams starting signal caller Week 1, its noteworthy that the Patriots defense also sounds as if its rounding into form early on. There is considerable season-long upside appeal for Newton -- particularly in two-QB formats -- who should be given every opportunity as the teams quarterback.

From RotoBaller

Aug 26 7:53pm ET

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton said Wednesday, Aug. 26, he 'absolutely' doesn't feel like the team's starter, despite taking the bulk of reps in training camp. 'I have so much I need to get better at, so much I need to learn, so much I need to be comfortable with. Throughout this process, that's the last thing that I'm pretty much worried about,' Newton said.

Fantasy Spin: As expected, the abbreviated offseason was going to have an impact on the preparedness of Newton and every other player to change teams this offseason. He should still be given every opportunity to earn the No. 1 job over incumbents Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham and will enter the season as a high-end QB2.

From TheHuddle

Aug 24 7:10pm ET

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that he's been impressed with quarterback Cam Newton's work ethic during training camp. "He's an extremely hard-working player; first guy in, last guy out. He's studied hard and has spent a lot of extra time learning the offense. I've been very impressed with that. He's a very skilled athlete," Belichick said. Jarrett Stidham's hip injury has paved the way for Newton to see an increase in snaps at practice as he tries to win the starting QB gig. Even before Stidham got hurt, Newton was expected to be the Week 1 starter. As long as Newton is healthy, he'll be starting in New England. And if he remains healthy, the dual-threat signal-caller is a QB2 with upside in fantasy drafts.

From RotoBaller

Aug 23 3:33pm ET

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton received 30 repetitions during team drills Sunday, Aug. 23, while QB Brian Hoyer received 12 reps during 11-on-11 drills.

Fantasy Spin: Newton appears to be on track to win the starting job especially with Jarrett Stidham dealing with an injury. He has played well in the past but has dealt with injuries over the last few seasons. Newton probably should be considered a No. 2 fantasy quarterback at this point.

From TheHuddle

Aug 20 8:53pm ET

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton attempted 'nearly three times the number of competitive throws' that Jarrett Stidham did in practice Thursday, Aug. 20. This occurrence took place one day after head coach Bill Belichick told reporters 'there will be some point where that's (one quarterback seeing significantly more reps than the other) going to happen.

From TheHuddle

Aug 19 3:03pm ET

New England Patriots QBs Jarrett Stidham, Cam Newton and Brian Hoyer are competing for the starting job, but head coach Bill Belichick did not rule out the possibility of using a rotation at quarterback if it gives the team the best chance to win.

Fantasy Spin: None of the quarterbacks appear to have an advantage at this point, so fantasy players should continue to monitor the situation. Newton probably would have the most fantasy value if he wins the job, but his value would decrease if the team decides to use multiple quarterbacks.

From TheHuddle

Aug 19 12:40pm ET

There is a lingering question in New England Patriots training camp as to whether head coach Bill Belichick will use a quarterback platoon to begin the season, with repetitions split evenly among Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer in practice this week. It's clear that Newton is running third in terms of comfort level with the system. Belichick might like the idea of making the opposing defense prepare for two quarterbacks with different styles of play. With no preseason games this year, the Patriots may use September to get a better feel for their roster, including the QB position. It might also appeal to New England in order to preserve Newton's health, as he's coming off foot and shoulder injuries in recent seasons. The possibility that Stidham sees repetitions in the regular season as they try to get a ready on his long-term future doesn't bode well for Newton's overall fantasy value as a QB2. Belichick also said this week that Newton is still trying to catch up to the specifics of the Patriots system, but it's not a surprise since he's been with the team for only seven weeks.

From RotoBaller

Aug 17 4:53pm ET

New England Patriots QBs Cam Newton, Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer received equal repetitions during practice Monday, Aug. 17.

Fantasy Spin: Newton and Stidham probably are the main candidates for the job, but Stidham may have a small advantage since he is more familiar with the offense. Fantasy players should monitor the situation to see which quarterback wins the job. Newton could be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback in deeper leagues if he starts, while Stidham would probably be a No. 2 quarterback.

From TheHuddle

Aug 7 12:53pm ET

New England Patriots QB Cam Newton on Friday, Aug. 7, declared himself fully ready for training camp. 'At this particular time, I'm full go,' Newton said in a video conference call.

Fantasy Spin: Newton first will have to stay healthy and then also beat out Jarrett Stidham and Brian Hoyer for the starting gig. If A and B are accomplished, Newton will enter the season as a QB2 but one with considerable upside.

From TheHuddle

Jul 22 3:03pm ET

New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman participated in a throwing session with QB Cam Newton that Newton posted on his Instagram account Wednesday, July 22.

Fantasy Spin: Tom Brady's top target for much of the past decade now has a new guy spinning the rock his way, so it's good to see the two getting acclimated. Timing is key to Edelman's role in the passing game, making their rapport all that much more important. Assuming Newton stays healthy, Edelman is a fairly safe bet for WR2 numbers in PPR formats. He often can be had as a third wideout.

From TheHuddle

Jul 9 6:53pm ET

New England Patriots WR N'Keal Harry was filmed running routes with QB Cam Newton Wednesday, July 8.

Fantasy Spin: Harry was never able to find a true groove with former Patriots QB Tom Brady (Buccaneers) last season while being limited to just seven games. He caught 12 of 24 targets for 105 yards and two touchdowns as a rookie. Newton could take better advantage of Harry's downfield abilities if fully healthy in 2020. The early reps are certainly a good sign for what hopes to be the Patriots' top duo in the passing game.
