New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead finished the Patriots Week 3 loss in the locker room with a neck injury. Burkhead has been battling a concussion recently and the fact that doctors were examining his neck cannot be a good sign. Burkhead caught two passes for 26 yards in the game and his status will have to be monitored this week. Running backs James White and Sony Michel will share snaps in the Patriots backfield if Burkhead's injury will cost him some games.

Sep 23 10:53pm ET

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (neck) left the Week 3 game against the Detroit Lions due to a neck injury and he was taken to the locker room for further evaluation.

Fantasy Spin: Burkhead was injured in the third quarter after managing a total of just two touches. It's been Sony Michel and James White handling the work, with a bulk of the carries going to Michel.

Sep 20 2:30pm ET

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead will go up against a Lions defense that, through two games, has allowed the fifth most fantasy points to opposing runners. Burkhead is off to a quiet start this season and a concussion has limited his involvement right out of the gate. The Patriots offense has an opportunity to put up some points against Detroit so they could be running the ball a lot in the later stages of the game. Burkhead should see more than the six carries he received in Week 2 against the Jaguars but will have to split playing time with rookie Sony Michel and veteran James White. Burkhead is the most likely of the three to score a touchdown and will have RB3/4 status for Week 3.

Sep 16 8:10pm ET

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead carried the ball six times for only 22 yards in the Patriots Week 2 loss in Jacksonville. Burkhead was limited in practice this week because of a concussion and was not a guarantee to suit up. He did have a nice 12-yard run in the game but mostly was ineffective and was the third wheel behind Sony Michel and James White in the backfield. The healthier Burkhead gets the more snaps he will see moving forward and will have a better matchup in Week 3 against the Lions.

Sep 16 3:23pm ET

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (concussion) is officially active for the team's Week 2 game.

Fantasy Spin: Burkhead should receive most of the carries in the game and probably will also be involved in the passing game. He will be facing a tough Jacksonville Jaguars defensive but can still be a No. 2 running back or flex option.

Sep 15 6:23pm ET

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (concussion) progressed this week and made the trip for Week 2, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: It's encouraging, but he's not out of the woods yet. Burkhead will have to show that he's good to go in pre-game warmups tomorrow. If he does play he may not see his usual allotment of touches, but he would pose as an RB3 threat.

Sep 15 5:40pm ET

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead (concussion) made progress this week and traveled with the team to Jacksonville for Week 2, according to a source. All signs point to Burkhead being active, but James White could see most of the work in this one. Rookie Sony Michel (knee) is also trending toward playing, but he'd be a pretty risky flex option if both Burkhead and White are in the fold. Michel's early-season role is clouded by the fact that he missed most of training camp and the preseason and sat out in Week 1.

Sep 14 4:43pm ET

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (concussion) was limited during practice Friday, Sept. 14, and is listed as questionable for Week 2.

Fantasy Spin: Burkhead may be a game-time decision because he still needs to pass all of his concussion tests. He likely will be the main back for the Patriots if he plays and can be a No. 2 fantasy running back.

Sep 14 4:43pm ET

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (concussion), OL Marcus Cannon (calf), DB Keion Crossen (hamstring) and RB Sony Michel (knee) were limited participants in practice Friday, Sept. 14 and are each listed as questionable for Week 2 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. DB Nate Ebner (knee) and TE Jacob Hollister (hamstring) practiced in full and were removed from the injury report.

Sep 14 1:03pm ET

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (concussion) participated in his second straight day of practice Friday, Sept. 14.

Fantasy Spin: Burkhead, of course, still has to clear the concussion protocol, and even if so, he also could be competing with the likes of James White and rookie Sony Michel for touches Sunday in a tough matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars. That said, he's a solid flex option if active.

Sep 13 5:33pm ET

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (concussion) was officially listed as limited during practice Thursday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Spin: Burkhead needs to pass his concussion tests before he is cleared to play, so owners will need to check on his status over the next few days. He has been receiving most of the work at running back this season and can be a No. 2 running back or flex option if he is able to play in Week 2.

Sep 13 1:53pm ET

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead (concussion) was in full pads but did not take part in the limited positional drills the media was able to observe at practice Thursday, Sept. 13.

Fantasy Spin: It's a good step for Burkhead who sat out Wednesday entirely, but he still has a ways to go, including clearing the concussion protocol. If he plays Sunday, he's a solid flex consideration against a tough Jacksonville Jaguars D.

Sep 13 1:40pm ET

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead (concussion) appeared to be limited, at best, in practice on Thursday. The fact that Burkhead is practicing at all is a good sign after he was diagnosed with a concussion, but his status for Week 2 against the Jaguars is iffy right now. With both he and rookie Sony Michel (knee) up in the air, James White may turn out to be the safest play in this backfield this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Sep 13 12:10pm ET

Although New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead (concussion) was listed as out in practice on Wednesday, he was on the field and in pads during the afternoon session and took part in individual drills. It's a good sign that Burkhead at least did something, but it's unclear if he's passed the concussion protocol at this point. With him looking questionable for Week 2 against the Jaguars, New England's backfield could be left up to James White and Kenjon Barner. Burkhead's practice participation the rest of the week should give us a better idea, but he'll be a RB3/flex option in PPR leagues if he's active.

From RotoBaller

Sep 12 4:53pm ET

New England Patriots RBs Rex Burkhead (concussion) was not able to practice Wednesday, Sept. 12, and RB Sony Michel (knee) was limited.

Fantasy Spin: It's looking like there could be another heavy dose of James White, who led the Patriots in targets a week ago. White is a fine backup plan for those who were counting on Burkhead and/or Michel this week. It's a tough matchup in the Jacksonville Jaguars, but White has RB2 to RB3 PPR upside.

Sep 12 4:30pm ET

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead (concussion) missed practice on Wednesday and is in the concussion protocol. That's bad news as the team prepares to face the tough defense of the Jaguars in Week 2 on the road. Burkhead remains the best fantasy option in this backfield when he's healthy, but he's now a question mark to play this weekend. With rookie Sony Michel (knee) not a lock to make his debut, this could end up being James White's backfield.

From RotoBaller

Sep 12 4:00pm ET

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead faces a tough matchup in Week 2 against the Jaguars and their elite defense. Burkhead registered 64 rushing yards in Week 1 and the Patriots are very thin at running back right now. Burkhead should see plenty of carries but production will be hard to come by against a Jaguars defense that allowed only seven rushing touchdowns all of last season. They did let the Giants Saquon Barkley bust off a 68-yard touchdown run in Week 1 but Burkhead does not possess the"home run ability" of the New York rookie. Burkhead could pump up his stats in the short passing game but will be no more than a RB3 for Week 2.

From RotoBaller

Sep 10 12:50am ET

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead carried the ball 18 times for 64 yards in the Patriots 27-20 win over the Texans. Burkhead also caught one pass for five yards and was an active part of the offense. He did fumble once in the game but it was recovered by New England and split backfield carries with Jeremy Hill and James White. Burkhead's skills are best used in the red zone passing game for New England but was not featured as such in Week 1. With Hill's injury status up in the air, Burkhead will be relied on even more so in the coming weeks.

From RotoBaller

Sep 9 9:43pm ET

New England Patriots RB Rex Burkhead rushed 18 times for 64 yards in the Week 1 win against the Houston Texans and he added one reception for five yards on three targets.

Fantasy Spin: Burkhead led the backfield with 19 total touches, compared to five for Jeremy Hill and nine for James White. As such, Burkhead is a solid RB3 or flex fantasy option in most fantasy formats. He faces a tough matchup on the road against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2, however.

Sep 7 12:00pm ET

New England Patriots running back Rex Burkhead (knee) is expected to be the team's top ball carrier in Week 1 against the Texans, in the opinion of NESN's Doug Kyed. Burkhead will be active this Sunday, but the question is how much work will he see? There have been reports that he'll be eased into things alongside James White and Jeremy Hill. That could be true, but Burkhead is still the best fantasy bet for this game with rookie Sony Michel (knee) looking unlikely to play. Consider Burkhead an RB3/flex choice for the season opener.
