If not for Patrick Mahomes' huge season last year, Ryan's big year would have been talked about more. He had a great rebound season, finishing second overall in fantasy quarterback scoring. Ryan had 38 total touchdowns to just seven interceptions. He also threw for nearly 5,000 yards, finishing 76 yards shy of that mark. He had touchdowns all but the first game of the season. Ryan also had eight 300-yard games and eight games with three-plus scores. Ryan was super consistent. He gets Dirk Koetter back as his offensive coordinator this year, a coach that helped him produce some of his best stats to date. Ryan has at least 26-passing touchdowns seven of nine seasons and eight straight 4,000-yard seasons. Ryan is an accurate, intelligent quarterback with a strong arm and the ability to fit the ball in tight spaces. If there is a knock on him, he can flop in the big game and doesn't do well under intense pressure. The Falcons throw often but have a balanced offense with a lot of talent.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Ryan was a huge bargain last year for those that drafted him, finishing just behind Mahomes in the rankings. He won't come as cheap this year and for good reason. He has enjoyed huge seasons two of the last three years. Consider him a top-five fantasy quarterback. He can get around 4,500 yards and 35 touchdowns with few turnovers.
4,924 yards 35 touchdowns and seven interceptions. Not a bad stat line. That is the 2018 line that meantMatt Ryan finished as the QB2 for fantasy, behind only Patrick Mahomes. He did this despite losing Devonta Freeman for the entire season, and playing behind a mishmash offensive line. In 2019 all of these obstacles look to be fixed. The Falcons added Chris Lindstrom and Kaleb McGary to the offensive line through the draft, as the Falcons have done their best to keep Matt Ryan upright this season. His ranking as the QB2 may not be repeated, with a number of talented quarterbacks looking to jump ahead of him. But this does not mean his numbers are going to regress either. He could very easily finish with the same or even better numbers and still finish in the QB 5-6 range. Some would try to say this is a disappointment, but they would be wrong. While there could be four or five quarterbacks who end up finishing higher in the ranks than Matt Ryan, they will also be drafted much higher, starting with Mahomes in the second-round, through to Baker Mayfield in the fifth. Ryan, on the other hand, is currently going at the end of the seventh or early eighth round, meaning you can use those draft savings on a better player at a more important position. The difference between QB4 and QB12 in 2018 was less than two points per game, meaning even the top-five guys are not significantly better than the middle of the pack players. If you want to get one of the top-five options anyway why not go with the player who is going latest in drafts, and even behind some players likely to finish behind him. Look for Ryan in the seventh round and be set at quarterback all season long as Atlanta rises from the ashes of 2018.

This week, he finds himself going up against one of the most favorable defenses for quarterbacks, the Cardinals. Ryan faces a defense this week that ranks in the bottom-five of the league in both points scored and yards allowed. He should easily be able to keep his streak of 300-plus passing yards going and throw for at least two touchdowns as he looks to improve the Falcons to 2-4 on the year.

He has a good chance to keep that streak going this week as the Falcons host the Titans. Ryan has averaged over 40 passing attempts per game this season, a number we could see going down in the near future, but even with 30-35 passing attempts in an offense that features Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley, Ryan should be able to produce strong fantasy numbers. After throwing five picks during the first two games of the year, his lone interception in this one was a step in the right direction. Despite Ryan's inaccuracies in the passing game, he remains one of the most productive fantasy quarterbacks in 2019, however, and should continue to have a place in starting lineups in a majority of formats. He will look to keep it going in Week 4 against the Titans.
