2019 RTSports Outlook

Elliott was fifth overall in fantasy running back scoring last season. He topped 2,000 total yards for the first time in his career, finishing with 2,001 total yards. Elliott saw a big spike in production in the passion game, catching 77 passes for 567 yards. He had just 58 receptions his first two seasons in the NFL. Elliott had seven 100-yard rushing games. He was the centerpiece of the offense and produced big in that role. Elliott has 1,000-yard rushing seasons two of three and at least 1,000 total yards all three seasons. Elliott will continue to carry the load at running back for the Cowboys. Elliott is a three-down back that excels running behind the Cowboys top offensive line. Elliott has very good vision and breakaway speed. Elliott can do the job inside or outside when running the ball. He also is a plus pass catcher and a willing blocker.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Elliott can make a run at top fantasy back in the game. The only thing holding him back last year was a lack of scores, failing to hit double-digit touchdown. Expect those touchdown numbers to improve. Elliott can get around 2,100 total yards, 14 scores and 70 receptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

While it is unwise to project Ezekiel Elliott to match his 95 targets and 77 receptions from 2018, there is no question that Zeke is a legitimate three down back that will catch passes. On the ground, Zeke has led the NFL in rushing yards per game every year of his career. I am not concerned in the slightest about his 381 touches last season and the fact that he's touched the ball 1,003 times in three years, which includes a season where he played just 10 games. Despite his 381 touches, Elliott scored just nine touchdowns last season. Even if the Cowboys spell Zeke a little more and his touch count drops by 20-30, positive touchdown regression is all but guaranteed. It would not be surprising at all if Zeke pushed for 20 touchdowns. Given his guaranteed volume, three down skill set, involvement in the passing game, and the Cowboys' elite offensive line set to see the return of Travis Frederick, Ezekiel Elliott is my choice for first overall pick in fantasy leagues. Under no circumstances should he fall out of the top four. Elliott is as safe as they come. Wherever you end up drafting him, do so with confidence.

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is reportedly considering holding out from Cowboys training camp. The team and Elliott (with his agents) have been in conversation for over a month, and the general thought is that Elliott won't hold out if he thinks the team is "making a serious push to get an extension worked." Elliott knows his value is at a high point right now and with the beating he takes each year, he does not want to risk going into the season without an extension at least in the process of getting done. This seems like a lot of smoke and not much fire for now, but it's something to keep an eye on as the Cowboys are scheduled to report to training camp in less than two weeks.

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has privately said he intends to hold out of training camp unless he gets a new contract, according to Pro football Talk's Mike Florio via a league source.

Jul 15 2:23pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has privately said he intends to hold out of training camp unless he gets a new contract, according to Pro football Talk's Mike Florio via a league source.

Fantasy Spin: Elliott still has two years left on his rookie contract, so this is a bit different than Melvin Gordon's situation. Unlike most of the running backs in the NFL in today's game, the two-time Pro Bowler has slightly more leverage here due to the lack of depth Dallas has at the position and how important he is to the Cowboys' offense. It's unlikely he'll hold out into the regular season though. However, if he does, rookies Mike Weber and Tony Pollard would likely split touches.

Jul 10 9:43pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's 5,247 yards from scrimmage are the fourth most by a player before their 24th birthday in NFL history.

Fantasy Spin: That stat is even more impressive when you consider that Elliott missed six games due to a suspension. With two rushing titles in three seasons and coming off a career-high 77 receptions in 2018, he's in the mix to be the No. 1 overall pick in fantasy drafts.

Jul 8 5:13pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has amassed a league-high 2,567 yards after contact since 2016, according to Pro Football Focus.

Jul 5 3:43pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott rushed for a league-high 722 yards when the defense had eight or more men in the box in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus.

Jul 3 2:30pm ET

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott met with the NFL about a May incident in Las Vegas, and the league has determined that Elliott did not violate the league's Personal Conduct Policy. Elliott will not face a suspension and will be available to start the year for the Cowboys. Elliott has led the NFL in rushing yards in two of his first three seasons and there's no reason to believe he can't do that again based on how the Cowboys have used him. He should be one of the first two backs taken in fantasy drafts this upcoming season.

From RotoBaller

Jul 3 2:23pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has been informed that he will not be suspended by the NFL for his off-field incident in May.

Fantasy Spin: Elliott is one of the top running backs in the NFL and will receive plenty of work this season. He should be a first-round pick in all fantasy leagues.

Jul 2 8:03pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is not expected to be suspended after meeting with commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday, July 2, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo. Elliott was detained in May for an off-field incident in Las Vegas, Nev.

Fantasy Spin: Garafolo added nothing is known for sure about Goodell's upcoming decision, so fantasy managers will need to continue monitoring the situation. Elliott shouldn't be slipping out of the first round, however.

Jul 2 6:33pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott issued an apology Tuesday, July 2, for his involvement in an off-field issue in May for which he was detained but not arrested. Elliott met with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell earlier Tuesday.

Fantasy Spin: Goodell could still choose to hand out punishment to Elliott. Fantasy managers will need to continue monitoring the situation in case the star rusher is forced to miss time.

Jul 1 6:33pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is scheduled to meet with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell Tuesday, July 2, to discuss an off-field incident he had in May, according to a source. Elliott was detained during the incident but was not arrested.

Fantasy Spin: Fantasy players should monitor the situation to see if Elliott receives any punishment for the incident. He will be a No. 1 running back in all fantasy leagues in 2019 but would take a dip in value if he misses any time.

Jul 1 2:40pm ET

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott will meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell on Tuesday. Their meeting will be to discuss events that transpired in Las Vegas in May. Elliott has already had a few off-field incidents, and this one involved him pushing over a security guard. Elliott was detained by police, but the security guard did not press charges so the running back was let go quickly. Roger Goodell and the NFL's discipline procedures are completely unpredictable, but it doesn't seem like this incident will result in a lengthy suspension. Dallas drafted Tony Pollard and Mike Webber in April, and they'd be in line for more work if Elliott were to surprisingly miss time.

Jul 1 1:48pm ET

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott will meet with Roger Goodell on Tuesday. They will be discussing an incident Elliott had with a security guard in Las Vegas earlier this year, one in which he was not charged. As a prior offender of the league's personal conduct policy though, Elliott could face stiffer penalties than normal. Elliott sat out 6 games of the 2017 season after being suspended for an alleged domestic violence incident.

Fantasy Spin: It seems like there's not much to see here, but with the NFL's discipline policy you never know. We think worst case is a game or two suspension and Elliott should still be in the top 5 picks of most drafts.

Jun 28 3:20pm ET

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is unlikely to have his contract extended this season, according to several reports. The Cowboys started talking to Elliott about keeping him around long term this offseason, but Amari Cooper and Dak Prescott will take precedence over Elliott. Once Cooper and Prescott's contracts are taken care off, the Cowboys will go in harder on Elliott. For now, he's under team control for another two seasons and he may end up being a candidate for the 2021 franchise tag. With Elliott's off-field issues, a long-term deal may be a scary situation for Dallas.

Jun 25 9:23am ET

No deal soon for Ezekiel Elliott Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is unlikely to get an extension in 2019 or next offseason, in the opinion of ESPN.com's Dan Graziano. Elliott's option for 2020 is worth $9.099 million, and the team feels good about franchise tag numbers on him in 2021.

Fantasy Spin: Elliott remains one of the best options at the position in the first round of drafts.

May 29 1:00pm ET

The NFL is likely to review an incident in which Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott had a run-in with a concert security guard in Las Vegas to determine if he violated the terms of his previous suspension, according to two league sources. Elliott was briefly handcuffed earlier this month after bumping a security guard, but he wasn't arrested or charged. Sources close to Elliott said they don't think the language in Elliott's previous suspension supports discipline in light of the video footage. Elliott was previously suspended six games in 2017 for acts of physical abuse against an ex-girlfriend. When it comes down to it, it'll likely be up to commissioner Roger Goodell as to whether the NFL decides to discipline Elliott over this incident. Stay tuned for more details, but the top-three fantasy pick could be facing more discipline.

From RotoBaller

May 24 1:43pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott is unlikely to face any league discipline over his involvement in a May 19 incident at a Las Vegas music festival, in the opinion of team owner Jerry Jones.

Fantasy Spin: Of course, Jones was certain Elliott wouldn't be suspended for domestic-violence allegations in 2016, but he wound up serving a six-game ban late in 2017 after a circus-like litany of appeals and court rulings. This latest incident, though -- involving a shoving match with a event security officer -- isn't nearly as troubling and until further notice, Elliott should be one of the top handful of RBs off the board at the top of fantasy drafts.

May 23 1:40am ET

The Dallas Cowboys and running back Ezekiel Elliott seem to be on the same page as far as discussions on a long-term contract extension go. However, the Cowboys have made it clear that quarterback Dak Prescott and wide receiver Amari Cooper are at the front of the line for extensions this offseason. Elliott is one of the true workhorse backs in the NFL and at 23 years old will get a handsome raise whenever he gets an extension. He barely missed 1,000 yards in 2017 when he was suspended and has gone well over 1,000 yards rushing in his other two seasons. Elliott has 4,048 yards rushing (4.7 average) with 28 rushing touchdowns in his three NFL seasons. He had a career-high 77 receptions for 567 yards and three more touchdowns in 2018 and is a surefire top-three fantasy selection in 2019 drafts.

From RotoBaller

May 22 5:23pm ET

Dallas Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott has not received a contract extension offer at this point, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Elliott is under contract for two more seasons, so the Cowboys likely will try to sign Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper before they sign Elliott. He will continue to be a big piece of their offense and should be a No. 1 running back in all fantasy leagues.

May 20 2:20pm ET

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was handcuffed at a concert on Saturday after he had a minor altercation with a security guard. Video obtained by TMZ shows Elliott bodying the security guard backward into a metal fence. He was later released without being charged and went to his youth football camp in Las Vegas, according to his attorney. While Elliott was not formally charged with a crime, under the personal conduct policy, the NFL can punish a player even if he wasn't charged by the police. This isn't Elliott's first incident as the NFL suspended him for six games in 2017 for an incident involving his ex-girlfriend. This doesn't appear to be a major issue for Elliott but whenever his name pops up, it is a concern.
