2019 RTSports Outlook

Thompson started last season strong with 19 receptions his first two games. He had just 22 receptions the rest of the way, though, and also missed some time because of injury. It wasn't quite the consistent season from Thompson. He had fewer than 20-receiving yards his last five games of the season. Thompson has 35 or more receptions four straight seasons. He is one of the top pass-catching backs in the game. He should continue to serve that role this season for the Redskins. Thompson is a pretty ideal change-of-pace back. Thompson has speed and good moves in space. Thompson catches the ball well and is a willing blocker.

FANTASY OUTLOOK:   Thompson has good upside in PPR formats. He'll get his weekly catches. Just don't expect a ton of yards or scores. His ceiling is a little limited because of that. Consider him a No. 3 or 4 fantasy back. He can get around 50 receptions and 600 total yards with four or so scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Chris Thompson is talented. He must be to be injured so much and still have a job and a defined role. Much like Jordan Reed, Washington is loyal to players who cannot stay on the field. If he returns and stays healthy in 2019 Thompson will again be the third-down back on a bad offense. Being led by either Case Keenum or Dwayne Haskins the offense of the Redskins leaves a lot to be desired. But this does not mean desired by your fantasy team. Derrius Guice, everybodys darling from last season is returning from an ACL. Due to that question mark, Washington re-signed Adrian Peterson for two more seasons. We know Chris Thompson can catch. In the eight to 10 games a year he plays in he will average five to six receptions and provide solid flex-worthy numbers for you. This is not a person to be sinking a draft pick into. His upside is severely limited due to his own health and the health of the offense he is on.Washington looks to be a bottom third team on offense for 2019 and there are very few times you will want to or need to pick a player from this team to fill out your fantasy roster. Trey Quinn could be interesting in the slot as a late-round selection and Guice if he falls a bit in price might be ok. As for Thompson? Unless you get a point premium for receptions from the RB position, he is not a player who should be projected for any contributions for you. If you are hesitant about Guice or Peterson and feel strongly you need him, make sure he is only your last pick. Even after defense and kickers are taken.

The Washington Redskins have declared DT Tim Settle, CB Deshazor Everett, WR Paul Richardson, OG Ross Pierschbacher, RB Chris Thompson, TE Vernon Davis and QB Colt McCoy inactive for Week 11.

From TheHuddle

Nov 15 9:50pm ET

Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson (toe) didn't practice all week and has officially been ruled out for Week 11 against the Jets. Thompson hasn't played since suffering turf toe in Week 6, and there's no timetable for his return. With Derrius Guice (knee) returning to a backfield that already includes Adrian Peterson this weekend, Thompson's fantasy value is the lowest it's been all season. Even when he returns from his toe injury, Thompson won't be guaranteed to have a significant role as the third-down back under interim head coach Bill Callahan. Thompson should be stuck to the waiver wire in most leagues.

From RotoBaller

Nov 15 7:53pm ET

Washington Redskins TE Chris Thompson (toe) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 15, and has been ruled out for Week 11.

Fantasy Spin: Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson will split the playing time with Thompson still sidelined. Guice probably should be considered a flex option in most leagues, while Peterson could be a flex option in deeper standard leagues.

From TheHuddle

Nov 15 3:33pm ET

Washington Redskins DL Tim Settle (hamstring), WR Paul Richardson (hamstring) and RB Chris Thompson (toe) were held out of practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 11 against the New York Jets. TE Vernon Davis (concussion) was limited in practice all week and has also been ruled out. S Deshazor Everett (ankle) and S Montae Nicholson (ankle) were limited in practice Friday, Nov. 15, and are listed as questionable. CB Josh Norman (hamstring) and RB Adrian Peterson (toe) fully participated in practice Friday and no longer appear on the injury report. RB Wendell Smallwood (non-injury) was not given a practice designation for a second straight day but has also been removed from the injury report.

From TheHuddle

Nov 14 4:53pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) did not participate in practice Thursday, Nov. 14.

Fantasy Spin: It appears like Thompson will be sidelined for another game, so fantasy players need to keep him on the bench. Derrius Guice and Adrian Peterson likely will receive most of the work at running back. Guice may be eased back into the lineup but can be a flex option, while Peterson could be a flex option in some deeper leagues.

From TheHuddle

Nov 13 8:30pm ET

Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson (toe) is still "out with injury," according to interim head coach Bill Callahan. Tight end Vernon Davis (concussion) remains in the league's concussion protocol coming out of the bye week. Thompson has been out since Week 6 and has no timetable for a return from his turf toe injury. With Derrius Guice now back, Thompson's value has dried up in PPR leagues in this bad offense. Davis has been out since Sept. 29 and also has no timetable for return. He needs to be on the waiver wire in all leagues. Jeremy Sprinkle hasn't been able to take advantage of his opportunity in Davis' absence, and that will likely continue with rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins under center the rest of the way.

From RotoBaller

Nov 13 7:53pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Nov. 13.

Fantasy Spin: Thompson has missed several games because of the injury and appears likely to miss another game unless he returns to practice in the next two days. Fantasy players should keep Thompson on the bench.

From TheHuddle

Nov 3 11:43am ET

The Washington Redskins have declared CB Aaron Colvin, FS Montae Nicholson, CB Deshazor Everett, QB Case Keenum, TE Vernon Davis, RB Chris Thompson and OG Wes Martin inactive for Week 9.

From TheHuddle

Nov 1 8:03pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) did not participate in practice Friday, Nov. 1, and has been ruled out for Week 9.

Fantasy Spin: Wendell Smallwood will continue to handle the backup running back role while Thompson is out but can be avoided in most fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Nov 1 5:43pm ET

Washington Redskins S Deshazor Everett (ankle), S Montae Nicholson (ankle) and RB Chris Thompson (toe) were unable to practice all week and have been ruled out for Week 9 against the Buffalo Bills. TE Vernon Davis (concussion) and QB Case Keenum (concussion) were limited in practice all week and have also been ruled out. DT Treyvon Hester (elbow) was a full participant in practice despite getting added to the injury report on Friday, Nov. 1, and is listed as questionable. RB Adrian Peterson (ankle), CB Quinton Dunbar (hamstring), LB Josh Harvey-Clemons (hamstring), OG Wes Martin (chest), DB Jeremy Reaves (concussion), CB Josh Norman (thigh, hand) and WR Steven Sims (toe) practiced in full Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

From TheHuddle

Oct 31 6:03pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) did not participate in practice Thursday, Oct. 31.

Fantasy Spin: It appears like Thompson will miss another game unless he is able to practice Friday, Oct. 31. Fantasy players in all leagues should look for other options and keep Thompson on the bench. Wendell Smallwood has a chance to be a flex option if Thompson and Adrian Peterson miss the game.

From TheHuddle

Oct 30 4:13pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 30.

Fantasy Spin: Thompson has been sidelined for a few weeks because of the injury and appears to be questionable for Week 9. Fantasy players can check on his status later in the week. Wendell Smallwood has filled in for Thompson but has not posted great numbers.

From TheHuddle

Oct 30 3:40pm ET

Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson (toe) remains out of practice on Wednesday. Thompson is dealing with turf toe and hasn't played since Week 6. He seems unlikely to play in Week 9 against the Bills, and even if he's active, he'd be a desperation RB3/flex in deep PPR leagues in Washington's poor offense. If he misses another game, expect Wendell Smallwood to be the passing-down back behind veteran Adrian Peterson. Smallwood would be one to avoid in this tough matchup against Buffalo's stingy ground defense.

From RotoBaller

Oct 26 7:13pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) hopefully will be able to play in the Week 9 game, according to interim head coach Bill Callahan.

Fantasy Spin: Thompson has missed the last few games because of the injury, so fantasy players will need to monitor his practice participation next week. He is used mostly as a receiver out of the backfield and can be a flex option in point-per-reception leagues when healthy.

From TheHuddle

Oct 24 7:03pm ET

The Washington Redskins have declared QB Colt McCoy, S Deshazor Everett, RB Chris Thompson, S Montae Nicholson, LB Josh Harvey-Clemons, G Wes Martin and TE Vernon Davis inactive for Week 8.

From TheHuddle

Oct 23 4:30pm ET

Washington Redskins running back Chris Thompson (toe) and tight end Vernon Davis (concussion) have both been ruled out for Thursday night's game against the Vikings. Davis was limited in practice all week, but Thompson didn't practice at all and isn't a lock to return in Week 9. Davis appears to be making progress, but fantasy owners can't rely on him as anything more than a touchdown-dependent TE2 when he's on the field in one of the worst offenses in football. Jeremy Sprinkle will continue to be the team's top pass-catching tight end with Davis out, but he's a desperation option at the tight end position. Jordan Reed (concussion) has yet to play this year and his career is in jeopardy.

From RotoBaller

Oct 23 2:43pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Oct. 23, and has been ruled out for Week 8.

Fantasy Spin: Wendell Smallwood will continue to fill in for Thompson in the offense and could receive even a bigger role if Adrian Peterson is not able to play. Smallwood probably can be avoided in most leagues if Peterson is active for the game.

From TheHuddle

Oct 22 6:03pm ET

Washington Redskins S Deshazor Everett (ankle), LB Josh Harvey-Clemons (hamstring), OG Wes Martin (chest), S Montae Nicholson (ankle), CB Josh Norman (thigh, hand), Adrian Peterson (ankle) and RB Chris Thompson (toe) did not practice Tuesday, Oct. 22. WR Steven Sims Jr. (toe) and TE Vernon Davis (concussion) were limited. LB Ryan Kerrigan (elbow) and QB Case Keenum (shoulder, foot) participated fully in practice. OT Donald Penn (non-injury) was not given a practice designation after being limited one day earlier.

From TheHuddle

Oct 21 5:43pm ET

Washington Redskins RB Chris Thompson (toe) did not participate in practice Monday, Oct. 21. The Redskins did not hold a practice Monday, so this is an estimation.

Fantasy Spin: Thompson did not practice last week and missed Week 7, so he may be facing an uphill battle to play in Week 8 . Wendell Smallwood likely will fill in for Thompson again this week but probably can be avoided in most leagues.

From TheHuddle

Oct 20 11:53am ET

The Washington Redskins have declared CB Deshazor Everett, CB Josh Norman, SS Josh Harvey-Clemons, TE Vernon Davis, RB Chris Thompson, OG Wes Martin and QB Colt McCoy inactive for Week 7.
