Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten 'hasn't lost a step' after taking a year off, according to QB Dak Prescott. 'I guess the trick is to take a year off because he's definitely gotten better, stronger and faster,' Prescott said.

Fantasy Spin: Witten could still be a reliable underneath target and red zone option for Prescott, but the veteran is expected to play limited snaps. At best, he's a touchdown-dependent TE2.

May 24 3:00pm ET

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who came out of retirement after a year in the Monday Night Football broadcast booth, has impressed his teammates so far this offseason. Witten looks great and appears to be stronger and faster than he was in 2017, when he had 63 catches for 560 yards and five touchdowns. He played in all 16 games from 2004-17, but the Cowboys want to play it smart with the veteran and limit his snaps by keeping him out of a third of organized team activity practices and into training camp. The 37-year-old is expected to share time with Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz in 2019, so he's unlikely to be a TE1 for fantasy purposes. I guess the trick is to take a year off because hes definitely gotten better, stronger and faster, quarterback Dak Prescott said. He hasnt lost a step.

Mar 6 4:33pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten was officially signed to a one-year, $2 million contract Wednesday, March 6. Witten can make up to $5 million, however. The Cowboys had to release Witten from the Reserve/Retired list before making the signing official.

Fantasy Spin: Turning 37 years old this summer, Witten is no longer a viable fantasy tight end. He is expected to be on a snap count to boot. He also makes Blake Jarwin less appealing.

Mar 2 9:53pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten will have a meaningful role in the offense, according to owner Jerry Jones.

Fantasy Spin: While Witten isn't expected to see a full workload, there's a good chance that he will be on the field in the red zone. He could be a touchdown-dependent TE2.

Feb 28 5:53pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten is expected to play around 25 snaps per game next season.

Fantasy Spin: Witten probably will see a handful of targets each game but will not be a great fantasy option for owners. He probably will be a No. 2 fantasy tight end at best next season.

Feb 28 1:33pm ET

Updating a previous report, Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten was lured out of retirement/broadcast booth by a one-year contract offer of nearly $5 million, a source said Thursday, Feb. 28.

Feb 28 1:23pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten announced Thursday, Feb. 28, he is ending his retirement after one year in the broadcast booth and returning to play for the Cowboys for what would be his 16th season.

Fantasy Spin: Witten caught 63-of-87 targets for 560 yards and five TDs in his most recent season in 2017 to rank 10th among fantasy tight ends. And although the Cowboys missed his middle-of-the-field presence last season, Witten turns 37 in May and will be a TD-dependent TE2 fantasy option if he winds up playing in 2019.

Feb 28 1:20pm ET

ESPN commentator and former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten has announced that he'll be returning to the NFL this season as a member of the Cowboys. Witten last played in 2017, when he had 63 catches for 560 yards and five touchdowns. Dallas struggled to find a replacement for Witten last season, and while Blake Jarwin came on strong at the end of the year, the position was still a huge question mark heading into this offseason. Witten is unlikely to put up big numbers at this point in his career, and his fantasy stock is fairly low, but Witten does have a chance to finish as a top-20 tight end.
