2019 RTSports Outlook

Freeman got consistent work his rookie season but took a backseat to undrafted rookie Phillip Lindsay much of the year. Freeman had just five games with double-digit carries and his season high in rushing came Week 1, rushing 15 times for 71 yards. Freeman should play a similar timeshare role with Lindsay this season. Freeman is more of a power back that is tough between the tackles. He has great balance and is a tough player to bring down because of his size. He also isn't a bad pass catcher that is not a liability in the passing game.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Freeman can improve on his rookie season but don't consider him a top fantasy play this yet. He should be considered a No. 3 fantasy back. Look for around 800 total yards and five or so scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

2018 was supposed to be the Royce Freeman show, but things did not go plan. A player with a lower pedigree proved to be arguably a better talent. Phillip Lindsay, the undrafted hometown kid out of Colorado burst onto the scene and took over with his 59 190-pound frame and became the man in Denver. With 192 rushes for 1,037 yards and nine touchdowns, Lindsay was a Pro Bowler as a rookie. Does this mean we dont want anything to do with Royce Freeman? Not so quick, yes, Lindsay had a solid rookie year, but he was also injured in the last game and required offseason arm surgery. Surgery which will likely keep him on the sidelines until after the start of the preseason. This opens up a whole new world of opportunity for Freeman to show he belongs as the guy. He was the one drafted in the third round out of Oregon, and he was the one they were excited about last preseason. It is time to show the Broncos why there was that excitement. Despite not getting as much work as Lindsay, Freeman still finished with 521 yards and five touchdowns on 130 carries, adding 14 receptions on 20 targets. At 6 and 229 pounds, Freeman also has the size to hold up far better than the far smaller Phillip Lindsay when taking hits from defenses who will key on him out of the backfield.Lindsay is currently being drafted as RB23 in the middle of the fourth round. That price is far too high for a player who may or may not be fully healthy when the season starts. Freeman, on the other hand, is being drafted as RB40 in the ninth round. A fine value for a player who may be the starter sooner rather than later. Whether he ends up beating out Lindsay for the starter's job or stays in a committee the price is right for Freeman whereas when it comes to Lindsay there are much better choices in the same area. Players like Kerryon Johnson, Aaron Jones, and David Montgomery provide so much more for the same price.

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman managed to score a touchdown despite rushing for just 35 yards on 10 attempts during the loss to Kansas City. With the Chiefs Defense finally stepping up in this one, Freeman and backfield mate Phillip Lindsay were collectively held to just 71 yards on Thursday night. Both men should continue to split carries moving ahead, with the slight edge from a fantasy perspective going to Lindsay moving forward.

From RotoBaller

Oct 18 12:03am ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman 10 times for 35 yards and a touchdown and caught four passes for 32 yards in a 30-6 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 7.

Fantasy Spin: Phillip Lindsay had one more carry than Freeman, but Freeman scored Denver's lone touchdown and saw more work in the passing game. Lindsay has shown the higher ceiling overall, but Freeman has carved out a solid role and is a decent flex play.

From TheHuddle

Oct 17 5:40pm ET

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman continues to carve out a significant role in the Broncos passing offense as the season progresses. This allows him to hold flex value in a PPR setting, as he is seeing between four and five receptions a week out of the backfield. Expect much of the same against Kansas City on Thursday night, which will allow for Freeman to sneak into flex spots this week.

From RotoBaller

Oct 14 12:30am ET

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman continues to find a bulk of his production in the receiving game during the 2019 season, defining a new role for him in the team's offense. In a Week 6 win against the Tennessee Titans, the former Oregon Duck tallied 76 all-purpose yards, with 42 of those yards coming on five catches out of the backfield. Freeman's continued volume in the passing game makes him an intriguing flex option in PPR leagues, as owners have a short timeline to decide if they are going to start him against Kansas City on Thursday night.

From RotoBaller

Oct 13 10:23pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman rushed 11 times for 34 yards and caught five passes for 42 yards in a 16-0 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 6.

Fantasy Spin: Phillip Lindsay continues to be the top back for the Broncos, but Freeman receives enough work to be warrant consideration as a flex option. At worst, Freeman is a must-own handcuff for Lindsay owners.

From TheHuddle

Oct 12 12:50am ET

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman's value has started to head on the decline in recent weeks, as he continues to get outproduced by teammate Phillip Lindsay. Freeman had a rough showing last week fantasy-wise and faces a Tennessee Titans Defense that ranks ninth against opposing running backs. Freeman should be on benches in most leagues unless owners are desperate from injuries and bye weeks at flex.

From RotoBaller

Oct 7 12:30am ET

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman had a fairly stale week against the Los Angeles Chargers in a road contest for the Broncos. Freeman had an impressive 67 yards on 13 rushing attempts, averaging 4.7 per attempt but sadly those numbers don't do much for fantasy owners. The Oregon product also lacked in the passing game, an area he has typically seen success in this year, as he only caught two receptions for six yards. Freeman has no easy task to find production for owners next week as he lines up against a tough Tennessee Titans Defense.

From RotoBaller

Oct 6 10:53pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman rushed 13 times for 61 yards and caught two passes for six yards in 20-13 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 5.

Fantasy Spin: Although his backfield mate, Phillip Lindsay, has shown more upside, Freeman has been steady. He has topped 50 rushing yards in four of the five games, and he can be a flex option for fantasy owners.

From TheHuddle

Oct 5 5:40pm ET

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman continues to fight and scrap for production in a Denver offense that has not supported the run game well to start the 2019 season. Freeman showed promise to owners in Week 4, as he received the bulk of the snaps out of the backfield, as well as the most targets out of the running back crew. Because of that, Freeman does hold some value for owners that are desperate for a flex in a PPR setting, as Freeman may be able to get some reps in a game that his team is likely to be playing from behind most of the time.

From RotoBaller

Sep 29 10:40pm ET

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman started the 2019 season with hopes of slowly taking teammate Phillip Lindsay's starting job. Unfortunately for Freeman, the opposite has progressed throughout the season and Lindsay is continuing to lead in offensive volume. Freeman had a disappointing performance this week, as he only had six carries for 16 yards and four receptions for 34 yards. The former Oregon Duck will look to improve things next week in a matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers.

From RotoBaller

Sep 28 8:10pm ET

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman continues to lag behind teammate Phillip Lindsay, as he continues to we less usage than his teammate. Freeman had a sub-par game last week as he continues to search for his breakout game of 2019. The former Oregon Duck will line-up against a middle of the pack Jacksonville Jaguars rush defense, as he is a low-end flex play, at best, in deep leagues this week.

From RotoBaller

Sep 27 6:43pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman (shoulder) fully participated in practice Friday, Sept. 27, and is not on the injury report for Week 4.

Fantasy Spin: Freeman receives a solid amount of touches even though he does not start. He will be facing a solid Jacksonville Jaguars defense but can still be a flex option for fantasy players.

From TheHuddle

Sep 26 6:23pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman (shoulder) remained limited in practice Thursday, Sept. 26.

Fantasy Spin: Freeman and Phillip Lindsay have split work so far this season and have alternated top performances out of the Broncos' backfield. Neither will be able to properly reward fantasy managers when both are healthy, but they're still able to provide adequate returns from the FLEX spot.

From TheHuddle

Sep 25 7:23pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman (shoulder) was limited during practice Wednesday, Sept. 25.

Fantasy Spin: Freeman suffered the injury during the Week 3 game but was able to return to the game despite the injury. He should receive a solid amount of touches in Week 4 and could be a flex option in some leagues.

From TheHuddle

Sep 25 6:30pm ET

Denver Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (quadriceps) and running back Royce Freeman (shoulder) were both limited in practice on Wednesday. Sanders has been quarterback Joe Flacco's favorite weapon through three weeks, but he has bust potential as a WR4/flex if he's going up against Jaguars shutdown cornerback Jalen Ramsey this Sunday, especially if he's not 100 percent. Freeman should be good to go this weekend, but he'd be much more attractive if he wasn't continually splitting the workload with Phillip Lindsay. He's averaging a nice 4.8 yards per carry and has already caught 10 passes -- he had 14 receptions in 14 games as a rookie -- but Freeman is still looking for his first touchdown of 2019. Freeman is an RB3 for Week 4.

From RotoBaller

Sep 22 11:10pm ET

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman posted sub-par numbers in his team's loss to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday afternoon. Freeman got 15 carries and tallied 63 yards on his reps. The Oregon product took 6 fewer reps than his teammate Phillip Lindsay, a trend that Freeman owners hope does not continue in future weeks. Royce Freeman faces a tough Jacksonville Jaguars Defense in Week 4 as he continues to search for a breakout game.

From RotoBaller

Sep 22 4:33pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman rushed for 63 yards on 15 carries against the Green Bay Packers in Week 3. He also caught four passes for 10 yards during the game.

Fantasy Spin: Freeman briefly left the game because of an injury but should be fine for Week 4. He is not the starting running back but still receives plenty of carries during games. He can be a possible flex option in standard leagues.

From TheHuddle

Sep 22 2:13pm ET

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman (shoulder) returned to the Week 3 game after missing some time because of a shoulder injury.

Fantasy Spin: Freeman has had a solid role in the offense during the first two weeks and can be considered a flex option in some leagues.

From TheHuddle

Sep 22 2:03pm ET

Denver Broncos RB Royce Freeman (shoulder) suffered a shoulder injury during the Week 3 game and is considered questionable to return.

Fantasy Spin: Freeman has received at least 10 carries in each of the first two games, so fantasy players should monitor the situation. Phillip Lindsay would receive more touches if Freeman misses time and will continue to be a starting option.

From TheHuddle

Sep 20 1:50am ET

Denver Broncos running back Royce Freeman has seen significant time in the start of the 2019 season compared to where he ended last year. Freeman and teammate Phillip Lindsay have been sharing time out of the backfield and neither of them has been able to have a standout game yet this year. Therefore, it can be expected they will share duties once again in Week 3. If you need a player to throw in due to injuries in a deep league, Freeman poses an option with the potential of a breakout game or a few touchdowns looks to get some points on the board.
