The Detroit Lions reached an agreement on an undisclosed one-year deal with free-agent running back C.J. Anderson on Monday, according to a source. Anderson only had 24 carries in nine games with the Panthers in 2018 before being released. He was picked up late in the year by the Rams to help fill in for the injured Todd Gurley down the stretch and had 43 attempts for 299 yards (7.0 yards per carry) and two touchdowns in two regular season games for LA. In Detroit, he'll help spell Kerryon Johnson heading into his second year, but Theo Riddick will continue to have a role in the passing game as well. Don't let Anderson's strong finish to last year fool you, as he should be more of an RB3/flex with his new squad.
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Rams) signed a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions Monday, April 1, according to a source. Financial terms were not disclosed.
Fantasy Spin: Anderson is a good fit in the Detroit backfield as he will assume the role vacated by LeGarrette Blount. Kerryon Johnson is the main man for the Lions, but Anderson will see some short-yardage and goal-line work. Take a chance on him in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.
Free-agent RB C.J. Anderson (Rams) said on his Twitter feed that his time with the Los Angeles Rams 'was fun' and that he enjoyed the opportunity.
Fantasy Spin: Anderson was speaking like a player who doesn't expect to be back with the Rams in 2019. However, he did show that he has a little gas left in the tank in the right offense, and depending on where he signs, he could have some appeal as a depth option for fantasy owners.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson rushed seven times for 22 yards and caught two passes for 12 yards in a 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII.
Fantasy Spin: Anderson once again split time with Todd Gurley, but neither back was effective. If the Rams end up bringing Anderson back next year, it could thrust Gurley's role as a top-three pick into doubt. It is one of the bigger fantasy stories to watch heading into 2019.
Los Angeles Rams RBs Todd Gurley and C.J. Anderson are likely to split carries in Super Bowl LIII versus the New England Patriots Sunday, Feb. 3, according to running backs coach Skip Peete.
Fantasy Spin: Gurley only had five carries in the NFC Championship Game versus the New Orleans Saints two weeks ago but he has been able to take part in all of the team's practices over the last two weeks without limitations, proving that the knee problems which plagued him near the end of the regular season are behind him. He should be viewed as a first-round selection in all fantasy formats for 2019. Anderson has played well since joining the club in December, rushing for more than 100 yards in three of the Rams' last four games, and he should see a decent workload in the Super Bowl based on his recent performance as well as Gurley's conditioning. He's worthy of consideration as a No. 3 or No. 4 running back for 2019 fantasy leagues.
The Los Angeles Rams are interested in bringing back RB C.J. Anderson for the 2019 season, according to multiple sources.
Fantasy Spin: The 27-year-old Anderson has been impressive since being picked up off the free agency scrap heap in December, rushing for more than 100 yards in three of his four games since joining the Rams. He should be part of a running back committee next season regardless of where he lands and is worthy of consideration as an RB3 or RB4 in most fantasy formats.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson said Tuesday, Jan. 29, he is now playing at 235 pounds -- up from his previous playing weight of 225.
Fantasy Spin: The extra weight hasn't seemed to hamper Anderson so far in L.A. as he rushed for at least 123 yards in each of his first three games with the Rams before gaining 44 on 16 carries in the NFC title game. Next up, though, is a Patriots' rush defense that has surrendered only 60 rushing yards in two postseason games. Fellow RB Todd Gurley should also be much more involved in the Super Bowl game plan as well after receiving only five touches in the NFC Championship Game.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson (illness) fully participated in practice Friday, Jan. 25.
Fantasy Spin: Anderson has played well since joining the Rams and should be part of a running back committee for a team next season. He can be a No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy running back next season depending on his role.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson (illness) did not participate in practice Thursday, Jan. 24.
Fantasy Spin: Anderson should be available to play in Super Bowl LIII and likely will receive a solid amount of touches. He has played well and could return to the Rams next season. Anderson probably will be part of a running back committee for a team next season and could be a No. 3 or No. 4 fantasy running back.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson rushed 16 times for 44 yards in the NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints and he added a five-yard catch.
Fantasy Spin: Anderson was just on the scrap heap a month ago, but he stepped up and gave the Rams some semblance of a run with Todd Gurley obviously ailing and not at 100 percent. The veteran back could have played himself not only into a job for 2019, but a rather prominent role with someone.
Los Angeles Rams RB Todd Gurley rushed four times for 10 yards and a touchdown and he added a three-yard catch in the NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints, while RB C.J. Anderson handled the majority of the workload with 17 total touches.
Fantasy Spin: There was no official word from the Rams during the game, but Gurley was obviously not right. He had two dropped passes in the first half and he apparently is still not 100 percent from the knee injury which hampered him down the stretch. He'll have two weeks to rest before Super Bowl LIII in Atlanta, but expect him to split the load with Anderson.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson said he is the freshest running back in the league heading into a matchup with the New Orleans Saints in the NFC Championship Game. 'I look faster than everyone else, part of it because I'm fresh,' Anderson said.
Fantasy Spin: Anderson has played three games for the Rams, topping 120 rushing yards and scoring at least once in all of them. Even with Todd Gurley back in the fold, Anderson has shown he deserves a look in playoff contests. There could be plenty of touches to go around if the conference title game resembles the 45-35 shootout the Rams and Saints had earlier this year.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson had the full confidence of head coach Sean McVay, who signed the free agent on Dec. 18. 'He's a guy that's played in big-time games,' coach Sean McVay said Saturday, Jan. 12, following the Rams' 30-22 divisional-round playoff win over the Dallas Cowboys. 'You know that no moment is too big for him. This is a guy that's had a big-time role and a Super Bowl champion team. He's just got a great feel for the game. I think he did a great job again tonight. Was really just impressed with him from the jump -- the way that he was able to come in, I guess it would be about a month ago now, and how quickly he was able to pick things up. Really smart, cerebral player and does a great job putting his pads down, finishing falling forward.'
Fantasy Spin: In three games with the Rams, Anderson has rushed for 167, 132 and 123 yards and has totaled four TDs while subbing for/complementing No. 1 RB Todd Gurley. And even with Gurley back from a two-game knee-injury absence Saturday, Anderson handled 23 of the 41 RB touches. That likely will switch as soon as the NFC title game, but expect Anderson to still see at least a third of the touches, especially if the game is close.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson rushed 23 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-22 win over the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional round Saturday, Jan. 12.
Fantasy Spin: Talk about one man's trash being another man's treasure. Denver, Carolina and Oakland all kicked Anderson to the curb within the last year, but he has been churning out 100-yard efforts since being scooped up by the Rams in the final weeks of the regular season. Even with Todd Gurley back in the fold, Anderson can't be ignored in playoff contests.
Rams' RB C.J. Anderson ran for 123 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns in Saturday's win against the Cowboys.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson could continue to have a role in the offense during the playoffs, according to head coach Sean McVay. 'But, he's certainly earned the right to be on the field,' McVay said. 'He's done a great job these last couple weeks.'
Fantasy Spin: Although Anderson topped 100 rushing yards in Week 16 and Week 17 while Todd Gurley was sidelined, Gurley is expected to be ready to go for the divisional round. It's hard to imagine Anderson doing more than spelling Gurley during the playoffs.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson rushed 23 times for 132 yards and a touchdown and caught three passes for 22 yards in a 48-32 win over the San Francisco 49ers in Week 17.
Fantasy Spin: Anderson delivered two monster performance while filling in for Todd Gurley, but now that the Rams have a couple of weeks to rest, Gurley should be ready to go for fantasy owners in playoff contests. Anderson is merely an insurance policy at this point.
Rams' RB C.J. Anderson ran for 132 yards on 23 carries with one touchdown in Sunday's win against the 49ers. It was Anderson's 2nd consecutive 100+ yard rushing performance. He has averaged 150 yards rushing in those games.
Los Angeles Rams RB C.J. Anderson rushed 20 times for 167 yards and a touchdown and lost five yards on his only reception in his team debut in a 31-9 win over the Arizona Cardinals in Week 16.
Fantasy Spin: The Rams decided to play it safe with Todd Gurley, and Anderson took full advantage. If Gurley rests his knee again in the regular season finale against San Francisco, Anderson could have another strong outing.
Los Angeles Rams' RB C.J. Anderson ran for 167 yards on 20 carries with one touchdown in Sunday's win in Arizona.
