Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan said that the skill players on the 2020 roster compare favorably with those from the 2012 unit, a team that came close to reaching the Super Bowl. The 2012 offense featured Michael Turner, Hall of Famer Tony Gonzalez, and an excellent duo of receivers on the outside in Roddy White and Julio Jones. Of this year's offense, Ryan said, "You're talking about Julio in his prime, Calvin Ridley going into year three coming into his own. You've got Todd Gurley, who is hungry, who wants to prove it this year. Hayden Hurst, another guy, first-round draft pick who just ended up in a spot where the way they were running the football, it was no fault of his own that he didn't have the stats." There's certainly potential for the unit as a whole to be as good as in 2012, though there will be several mouths to feed for fantasy purposes.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan, who also dealt with a unique offseason in 2011 during the lockout, has organized player-run workouts during the coronavirus pandemic this offseason. Ryan and the offense were productive that year, going 10-6. The veteran QB tried to keep the training "as normal as possible" amid a public-health pandemic. Ryan has engaged his teammates for the last nine weeks in both Georgia and California, going three days a week, with sessions lasting between 90 and 105 minutes. Relationship building with some of the younger players has been huge for Ryan during this time. He's had a chance to talk about little nuances in route-running with guys like receiver Calvin Ridley and new tight end Hayden Hurst. Ryan also made it a point to work on individual mechanics more this offseason. Along with Ryan, veteran receiver Julio Jones has taken on an expanded leadership role with coaches not around. Ryan and the Falcons have a lot to prove after missing the playoffs the last two years, and the 35-year-old QB is as reliable and consistent as they come as a QB1 for fantasy owners.

Nobody in the NFL faced more pressures last season than Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan with 216. And despite all that pressure, he still managed to post a passer rating under pressure that was more than 12 points higher than the league average of 66.2. Ryan's passer rating under pressure of 87.9 is the highest among QBs in every season combined since 2016. Only Tom Brady has thrown more touchdown passes while under pressure (30) than Ryan (27) since 2016. His 104.9 passer rating from 2016 sits third in the top-five passer ratings under pressure since 2016. Ryan also tied for the third-most TD passes thrown under pressure in a single season with nine in 2018. If Atlanta's offensive line can actually give him more time to throw, the consistent 35-year-old should have top-five QB1 upside in 2020.

On the surface, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan's 3:5 touchdown-to-interception ratio and 69.3 passer rating on deep passes looks very mediocre or even below-average. Atlanta's offense didn't live up to expectations in 2019, and Ryan threw into tight windows on 34.5 percent of his deep attempts. That partly helps explain his five picks. However, he still had a positive completion percentage of 41.8 and an expected completion percentage of 36.5 on deep attempts. It didn't help his cause that he faced pressure 32.7 percent of the time while going deep downfield. The 35-year-old may have had a down year in 2019, but he remains incredibly consistent and should remain a quality top-10 fantasy QB with Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley as his top two targets.

Atlanta Falcons QB Matt Ryan has agreed to restructure his contract, which will create salary cap space for the team.

Fantasy Spin: Ryan is coming a solid 2019 season and will have most of his pass catchers back next season. He can be a low-end No. 1 or a No. 2 quarterback in fantasy leagues.
