2019 RTSports Outlook

Hunt was having a huge season before an off the field incident led to his release by the Chiefs. He was not picked up by another team the rest of the way. Hunt played 11 games before his release, totaling 1,202 total yards and 14 touchdowns. He was 12th overall in fantasy running back scoring despite missing the last five games. He had five games with 100-plus total yards. Hunt gets a fresh start this season with the Browns, splitting work with Nick Chubb. Hunt will serve an eight-game suspension to start the season but should be a big part of the offense once he returns. Hunt is a big back that hits the hole in a hurry and does a good job of reading his blocks. He is a legit three-down back. He catches the ball well and has good moves in space.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: You can't deny his talent and production on the field. Hunt is a supremely talented back. It will be interesting to see how he is used with Chubb around. This duo should form a great one-two punch but splitting work never helps a player's fantasy value. Hunt might have a few less big games in his current role, but expect solid production. Take him as a low-end No. 2 back but plan for all his missed time. He can get around 700 total yards and six touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Talent has never been the issue with Kareem Hunt. After leading the NFL in rushing as a rookie in 2017, he was on pace to do the same in 2018 before off-field issues derailed his season and almost his career. In 11 games, Hunt had 824 rush yards and seven touchdowns on 181 carries. In the passing game, he was also dominant with 26 receptions for 378 yards and an additional seven touchdowns. In 2019 he will not only be on a new team in the Cleveland Browns, but unlike his first two seasons with Kansas City, he will also be in a true committee back scenario with Nick Chubb. In addition,he will miss the first eight games of the season, and with the Browns having a Week 7 bye this means the first nine games of your fantasy season. Is this someone you want to draft and hold until then in hopes he can win you playoff games? Currently, Hunt is going off the board as the RB33. This means he is going in front of options like Jordan Howard and LeSean McCoy. This is a dangerous proposition as we dont know how he will be used once he does come back. No, Nick Chubb is not a pass catcher, but Duke Johnson is. If Johnson has a solid first eight games, Cleveland may not be able to take him out in favor of Hunt. We know Chubb is going to be the first and second down back as long as he is healthy. So again. What of Hunt if Johnson pans out and Chubb is healthy? While Kareem Hunt could add explosiveness to any offense, the Browns will not want to rock the boat if things are clicking on all cylinders.Hunt's contract is only for $1 million, and in todays NFL, this is chump change. Cleveland will not want to have Chubb lose any confidence by reducing his role in favor of someone who may or may not be on the team in 2020. I refer you to the adage, better safe than sorry. In this case, it means it is safer for you not to draft him and let someone else do it. If they are struggling later in the season, you might be able to trade for him cheap, and if there is any value in him, you will have him. If you cant trade for him? Well, then there are other backs out there who will help you all season which are a better seventh-round pick. Do not waste a pick this high on someone who wont be available until Week 10.

A video has been released showing Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt being questioned by police outside a bar in downtown Cleveland on Saturday night. Hunt was not arrested and a police report was not filed, according to the Cleveland police spokesperson who was reached for comment. The Browns released a statement saying that they were aware of the incident but would not offer further comment. There isn't much information regarding why police were talking to Hunt, although the bar owner said he thought there may have been a disagreement between Hunt and one of his friends. While this appears to be nothing, Hunt is already on thin ice with the league. Any further discipline issues could result in an indefinite ban from the NFL.

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt has drawn the praise of former Kansas City Chiefs TE Travis Kelce. 'I think so, without a doubt,' Kelce said Saturday, June 15, when asked if he believes the Browns are getting the best version of Hunt. '... I think you guys are getting an unbelievable athlete, somebody who can change the game with one or two carries, one or two touches and really give you a chance to win.'

Fantasy Spin: Hunt is suspended for the first eight games of the season due to his personal-conduct violations, but he could be a factor late in the fantasy season while also serving as a potential spoiler for Nick Chubb and his fantasy owners. Don't bother, though, with trying to stash Hunt from the start of the season unless you have the bench spot to burn.

Cleveland Browns RB Nick Chubb is likely to remain the starter in 2019 even after RB Kareem Hunt is eligible to return from his eight-game suspension, in the opinion of beat writer Scott Petrak. Chubb earned the team's trust with a strong rookie year, but Hunt could be the starter in 2020.

Fantasy Spin: Chubb will be an RB2 for the bulk of the fantasy season, and Hunt will need time to acclimate himself in the offense and kick rust off. It could be Week 10 before Hunt makes a considerable dent in Chubb's fantasy stock. Hunt is worth stashing as an RB5, but Chubb seems to be safe atop the pecking order.

Cleveland Browns general manager John Dorsey said the team has a plan for running back Kareem Hunt up until his suspension begins for the 2019 season. Hunt was suspended eight games by the NFL for two violations of the personal-conduct policy. The running back won't appeal the suspension and Dorsey said he is "most proud" of the effort Hunt is taking to grow into the best version of himself. Hunt will obviously have his upside capped with Cleveland in 2019 because of his suspension for half the season and the fact that he'll be sharing the backfield with Nick Chubb when he makes his season debut.

Updating an immediate report, Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt will not appeal his eight-game suspension.

From TheHuddle

Mar 15 10:20am ET

The NFL has suspended Cleveland Browns running back Kareem Hunt for eight games for violating its personal conduct policy. Hunt violated the personal conduct policy while he was a member of the Kansas City Chiefs, which led to his release in November. The Browns took a chance on the running back, signing him to a one-year contract in February. While Hunt is suspended, running backs Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson will be asked to lead the backfield, although there have been persistent rumors that the team would like to trade Johnson. When he does return from suspension, Hunt's role in the team's backfield is unclear.

From RotoBaller

Mar 15 10:13am ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt was suspended eight games Friday, March 15, for violating the personal conduct policy, according to a source.

Fantasy Spin: Hunt can still appeal the ruling, but he's gone for 75 percent of the fantasy season in a lot of leagues. You're really going to have to be lucky avoiding the injury bug if you're going to carry him as an RB5 all season. There is obvious risk of rust and obvious reward for the latter part of the season and playoffs. Nick Chubb will be an RB2 or RB3 in Hunt's stead.

From TheHuddle

Mar 14 1:33pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt is likely facing a multiple-game disciplinary suspension, but Browns general manager John Dorsey said Thursday, March 14, he doesn't have any updated information on the specifics of the suspension. Dorsey did add that Hunt has been at the team's facilities and has been doing a 'great job.'

Fantasy Spin: Until we get clarity on the length of Hunt's ban, he'll be a late-round fantasy draft option who could pay off late next season.

From TheHuddle

Mar 4 8:13pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt is expected to be suspended for his off-field issues, but NFL spokesperson Brian McCarthy said there is no timetable for a decision.

Fantasy Spin: Hunt is expected to receive a lengthy suspension, but the team will have Nick Chubb and Duke Johnson to play at the position while Hunt is out. He is will be a risky option in fantasy leagues next season but could help during the second half of the season.

From TheHuddle

Feb 28 12:33pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt's addition was helped by general manager John Dorsey's 2016 experience in Kansas City in deciding whether to draft WR Tyreek Hill in 2016. When you make a decision of that magnitude, you have to have depth of knowledge,' Dorsey said Thursday, Feb. 28, at the NFL Scouting Combine. 'You have to be able to communicate what everybody sees, and then from a managing up position, you have to be able to express that with clarity to your bosses and get them to understand that this is a good person, so just trust us on this.'

Fantasy Spin: Signing Hunt was one thing, but having him actually able to play will be another as he remains on the Commissioner's Exempt List. That likely will be the case for a good chunk of the 2019 season.

From TheHuddle

Feb 12 6:23pm ET

Cleveland Browns RB Kareem Hunt could be suspended up to 10 or 12 games as a result of the domestiv violence incident he was involved in last year, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Fantasy Spin: The Browns, of course, knew this before signing him, but they took a chance on Hunt with a one-year deal anyway. As for Hunt's fantasy value, it is greatly hindered by the presence of Nick Chubb, Duke Johnson and his impending suspension. As of now he is merely worth a waiver wire add in dynasty leagues if available.

From TheHuddle

Feb 11 2:23pm ET

Free-agent RB Kareem Hunt signed a one-year contract that is for more than the league minimum and could be worth more than $1 million with the Cleveland Browns on Monday, Feb. 11.

Fantasy Spin: This move isn't a surprise given the fact current Cleveland general manager John Dorsey was one of the people responsible for drafting Ohio native Hunt when he was still employed with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2017, but just about everything else about this move is shocking. The league still has yet to announce how long Hunt will be suspended for his off-field issues, plus rookie Nick Chubb quickly emerged as one of the league's best backs near the end of the season. Hunt figures to serve a suspension for the better part of the 2019 season, but Hunt's arrival figures to damage Chubb's dynasty stock.

From TheHuddle

Feb 11 2:20pm ET

The Cleveland Browns signed free-agent running back Kareem Hunt on Monday. The Chiefs released Hunt last season after a video emerged of him kicking a woman in a hotel. The 5-foot-11, 216-pound back led the league in rushing in his rookie year in 2017 and has run for 2,151 yards on 453 carries (4.7 yards per attempt) with 15 touchdowns, 79 catches for 833 yards and an extra 10 touchdowns in his two seasons. Even though Hunt will likely face a lengthy suspension to start the 2019 season, his upside is clear and he gives Cleveland another young and powerful rusher alongside Nick Chubb. The addition of Hunt hurts the long-term value of Chubb in this backfield, and it'll be interesting to see how the two will co-exist whenever Hunt is allowed to play again. Led by promising young quarterback Baker Mayfield, Cleveland's offense just became much more dangerous.

From RotoBaller

Feb 11 2:19pm ET

The Browns signed Hunt on Monday.

Fantasy Spin: This is huge news for Nick Chubb, who likely will be in a committee with Hunt for the coming season when Hunt makes it on the field after likely serving a suspension.

Feb 9 8:23pm ET

Houston Texans impending free-agent FS Tyrann Mathieu, Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent WR John Brown, Cincinnati Bengals impending free-agent LB Preston Brown, Arizona Cardinals impending free-agent LB Deone Bucannon, Carolina Panthers impending free-agent offensive tackle Daryl Williams and Miami Dolphins impending free-agent OT Ja'Wuan James are all names to keep an eye on for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason, in the opinion of's Jenna Laine. Free-agent PK Matt Bryant (Falcons) and free-agent RB Kareem Hunt (Chiefs) have already been discussed as potential targets as well.

From TheHuddle

Jan 30 4:23pm ET

Free-agent RB Kareem Hunt's (Chiefs) ongoing investigation by the NFL will be finished soon, according to commissioner Roger Goodell. Hunt is able to sign with a team, but he would not be able to play as long as he's on the commissioner's exempt list.

Fantasy Spin: Hunt's dynasty fantasy value isn't completely eradicated, but he's a non-factor right now in redraft leagues. If/when he does sign with someone, he'll have RB1 upside.

From TheHuddle

Jan 29 6:13pm ET

Free-agent RB Kareem Hunt (Chiefs) could be of interest to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in the opinion of NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Fantasy Spin: As Rapoport stated, ultimately the decision to pursue and/or sign Hunt will be up to the team owners. As long as he remains a free agent, Hunt has no value in traditional leagues.

From TheHuddle

Jan 28 2:13pm ET

Free-agent RB Kareem Hunt is unlikely to be of interest to the New York Jets, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Fantasy Spin: Hunt would be an obvious upgrade on Isaiah Crowell, Bilal Powell and Elijah McGuire, but Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan has been impacted by the effects of domestic violence - a family friend was killed - so it is understandable why New York will go in a different direction.

From TheHuddle

Jan 24 2:03am ET

The Philadelphia Eagles could be a landing spot for former Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt, in the opinion of Philly Voice's Jimmy Kempski, who believes the team may be willing to move past Hunt's off-the-field incident based on their previous interest in Cincinnati Bengals RB Joe Mixon when he was coming out of Oklahoma -- Mixon was also recorded striking a woman.

Fantasy Spin: On the field, signing Hunt makes all the sense in the world for a team that lacked explosiveness in the backfield, especially once Jay Ajayi went down. The question is whether or not the Eagles believe pursuing Hunt would be worth the inevitable PR hit. Someone is going to sign Hunt, and Philadelphia could be one of the more appealing destinations in terms of fantasy value.
