2019 RTSports Outlook

Hyde opened last year as the starter for the Browns but eventually lost that starting job to rookie Nick Chubb and was dealt to the Jaguars. He had touchdowns four straight games to start the season with the Browns and had 80-plus rushing yards two of those games. He didn't top 50-rushing yards with the Jaguars and had double-digit carries three of those games. Hyde is trending the wrong way. He had two straight seasons with 900-plus rushing yards with the 49ers. He is 28 years old and will turn 29 shortly after the start of the season. Hyde signed with the Chiefs this offseason and will look to split carries with Damien Williams at running back. He could have a big role with this explosive offense this season. Hyde is yet to top 1,000-rushing yards in a season and his career yards per carry is 4.0. Hyde is a big, powerful back that can carry the load. He also catches the ball well. He really is a three-down back. He does lack some elite speed, though, and doesn't have great moves.

FANTASY OUTLOOK:   Hyde has been a top-15 back in recent seasons but things are trending the wrong way for him right now. He has the potential to turn things around in Kansas City but don't count on a huge bounce-back season. He has never been a top fantasy back even when starting and getting a ton of weekly touches. Take him as a reserve and hope for the best. He can get around 700 total yards and a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Kansas City running back Carlos Hyde enters this season as one of the more valuable running backs this offseason. Hyde has been a highly effective running in previous seasons but started to slow down last season, ending the season with a lowly 3.3 yards per rushing attempt. Hyde started his season with the Cleveland Browns where he scored five touchdowns in six games, before moving to the Jaguars and being largely disappointing. Hyde has a great chance to get on the field, with his ability to block and help in the passing game. Kansas City running backs have been effective for fantasy for as long as head coach Andy Reid has been running the team. Hyde faces competition for snaps from Damien Williams who had some of the best fantasy performances of his career towards the end of the season. Williams is currently slated to be the team's starter, but hasn't been given the reigns of an NFL backfield in his career. Hyde's 2018 season will put off fantasy owners, but that will make him a great value handcuff. If Williams struggles at the start of the season or gets injured then Hyde could be a league winner for fantasy owners.

Kansas City Chiefs running back Carlos Hyde, who was signed as a free agent this offseason, has occasionally lined up next to starter Damien Williams in the backfield at minicamp and has frequently been used as a receiver. "It's not just a one-dimensional running back here. You do it all. You line up at receiver. You actually run routes. You're not just a decoy," Hyde said. It's all fine and dandy right now, but it remains to be seen how much run Hyde will actually get when the games matter. At best, he's a handcuff for Williams owners in fantasy drafts. The 28-year-old floundered with both the Browns and Jaguars in a disappointing 2018 season. He had 10 combined receptions in 14 games last year.

Kansas City Chiefs RB Carlos Hyde is listed as the backup to RB Damien Williams, but he has been busy at minicamp, lining up along with Williams in the teams backfield on occasion. He has been used as a receiver. 'For a running back like me who likes to catch the ball, it would be like a dream come true,' Hyde said Wednesday, June 12.

Fantasy Spin: Hyde sees a giant improvement going from Blake Bortles in Jacksonville to Patrick Mahomes in Kansas City, so if he can carve out a role as a pass catcher out of the backfield he might be a decent PPR fantasy option again.

The Kansas City Chiefs and free-agent running back Carlos Hyde agreed to terms on a one-year deal over the weekend, according to a source. Financial terms of the 'prove-it' deal were undisclosed. He will join a busy backfield in Kansas City, one which is expected to be led by Damien Williams. Hyde bounced between the Cleveland Browns and Jacksonville Jaguars in 2018, posting 571 yards with five touchdowns over 14 games. He is still just 29 years old and will give the Chiefs a nice veteran presence in the backfield. For fantasy purposes, he is only worth a late-round pick on Draft Day as a handcuff to Williams.

Free-agent RB Carlos Hyde (Jaguars) could see significant playing time after agreeing to a deal with the Kansas City Chiefs, in the opinion of Adam Teicher of, because of general manager Brett Veach's preference for bigger backs. 'I kind of have a thing for 220-pound backs that can run and catch and block,' Veach said.

Fantasy Spin: Hyde will start the year behind Damien Williams in the pecking order, but he has shown he can handle a lead role if necessary. At the very least, he should be considered a handcuff for owners who draft Williams.

Free-agent RB Carlos Hyde (Jaguars) agreed to a one-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, March 9. Yahoo Sports! writer Terez A. Paylor reports the deal is worth $2.8 million, citing a source.

Fantasy Spin: This makes some sense for both parties. The KC backfield is poised to lose Charcandrick West and Spencer Ware, leaving Damien Williams as the lone back with any notable experience. Second-year RB Darrel Williams will be in the mix, and Hyde is versatile enough to play long stretches, if needed. The veteran back gets a year to prove himself in a better situation than last year's messes, and he will not have to take the pounding of being a full-time guy. Fantasy owners are looking at an RB4 in most scenarios, but he has a hint of upside should something happen to Damien Williams.

Free-agent RB Carlos Hyde (Jaguars) is scheduled to visit the Kansas City Chiefs Saturday, March 9.

Fantasy Spin: Hyde would be the backup to Damien Williams if he does end up with the Chiefs, but he'd still be worth grabbing in the later rounds, especially if you select Williams earlier your draft.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released running back Carlos Hyde and defensive tackle Malik Jackson on Friday, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The Jags traded for Hyde last year as depth for Leonard Fournette, and he ran for 411 yards and five touchdowns on 120 touches. Hyde won't count against the salary cap and the team will save $4.7 million this year. The Jaguars also released safety Tashaun Gipson and right tackle Jermey Parnell. Jackson will count $4 million against the cap and the Jags will save $11 million as they prepare to make a run at quarterback Nick Foles. Jackson had 14.5 sacks and four forced fumbles his first two seasons in Jacksonville but played only 64.1 percent of the defensive snaps in 2018 and finished with only 3.5 sacks.

Mar 8 12:03pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Carlos Hyde was released Friday, March 8.

Fantasy Spin: Hyde is a versatile back that can help a team in a timeshare. He could still be RB3-worthy in the right situation, but he's more likely to fall into an RB4 scenario.

Mar 2 12:43pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Carlos Hyde is being shopped to other teams in a trade, according to sources.

Fantasy Spin: Hyde rushed for 571 yards with the Jaguars and Cleveland Browns last season but did not have much success during the second half of the season. He could be a No. 2 running back for a team if he is traded but likely will not be a strong fantasy option.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Carlos Hyde is expected to be released this offseason. Cutting Hyde would save the Jaguars $4.75 million in salary cap space.

From TheHuddle

Feb 21 1:10pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars running back Carlos Hyde is likely to be cut this offseason, as Hays Carlyon projects there's an 80 percent chance of that happening. The Jags would save $4.75 million if they were to release him. Hyde didn't do much at all after the team gave up a fifth-round pick for him in the middle of last season to serve as insurance for the injured Leonard Fournette. The 28-year-old ran 58 times for 189 yards (3.3 yards per carry) and no touchdowns in eight games. He could land a job on the open market, but Hyde is unlikely to receive a prominent role anywhere else.

Jan 26 2:53pm ET

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Carlos Hyde could be released this offseason because the team would save $4.75 million in salary cap space if Hyde is let go.

Fantasy Spin: Hyde probably will not be able to find a starting job if he is released but could be a No. 2 running back for a team. He probably will see a handful of carries during games next season and may only be a late-round option in fantasy leagues.
