New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick expects his group of wide receivers to be 'very competitive' in 2020. 'I'm sure all our young players will improve in Year 2. Got a first-round pick on N'Keal [Harry] last year. Second-round pick on Mohamed [Sanu] -- that was really off this draft. Obviously have Julian [Edelman] and a number of other young players,' Belichick said. Julian Edelman, N'Keal Harry and Mohamed Sanu sit atop the team's depth chart entering the summer. The team also added WR Damiere Byrd during the offseason and return 2019 undrafted free agents Jakobi Meyers and Gunner Olszewski in addition to practice-squad receivers Devin Ross and Quincy Adeboyejo. Veteran WR Marqise Lee (Jaguars) also agreed to a one-year deal recently.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman won't be prosecuted after being cited by police for misdemeanor vandalism earlier this year, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. The owner of a car Edelman damaged informed the DA's Office he doesn't want Edelman charged, and he was fully compensated for the repairs.
Fantasy Spin: While this was never expected to keep Edelman off the field in 2020, he now is fully cleared to be ready whenever the 2020 NFL season starts. He heads into the 2020 NFL Draft as the Patriots' No. 1 receiver, but he'll be handcuffed by the team's shaky quarterback situation following the free-agent departure of Tom Brady.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman won't face prosecution after he was cited for misdemeanor vandalism in January, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office. Edelman was arrested on Jan. 11 in Beverly Hills after jumping on the hood of a vehicle and causing damage. The owner has been fully compensated for the repair costs and has dropped any charges. The veteran wideout led the Patriots with 100 catches for 1,117 yards and six touchdowns in 2019, but his fantasy stock will go down with quarterback Tom Brady leaving in free agency. Edelman can still be useful in PPR leagues, but the consistency should suffer with either Jarrett Stidham or another QB throwing him the football next season.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman was rumored to be heading to the Detroit Lions on Wednesday, April 1, and those rumors were given some life when they were discussed live by national media members Bill Simmons and Colin Cowherd. But the rumors were later traced back to a Patriots fan account as part of an April Fool's Day joke.
Fantasy Spin: Edelman finished eighth among fantasy wideouts in terms of total PPR points last season, but with Tom Brady now gone and Edelman's 34th birthday coming up in May, his days as a PPR WR1 appear over. He remains the primary weapon for whoever the next New England QB is, but value him in as a low-end PPR WR2 at the highest.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman is not expected to be traded this offseason, according to Tom Curran of NBC Sports Boston.
Fantasy Spin: There was some recent speculation that Edelman might get traded to the Detroit Lions, but it always seemed unlikely in that New England would part with the one proven receiver on its roster. Assuming he remains a Patriot, Edelman figures to go from a high-end WR2 to a WR3 with Tom Brady no longer around.
According to a source, there's "not a chance in hell" that the New England Patriots trade wide receiver Julian Edelman. Edelman does carry a salary cap hit of $9.6 million in 2020, but he's too important to the team's passing game, especially given their lack of depth and with quarterback Tom Brady no longer in town. The veteran receiver was targeted 153 times in 2019 and caught 100 passes for the second time in his career. With Brady gone -- he'll likely have Jarrett Stidham under center this season -- Edelman's fantasy appeal certainly won't be as strong, and he'll also be 34 next month. But he'll still be useful in PPR leagues and could even come at a nice value. However, he won't be as much of a PPR lock as he's been in the past as Brady's favorite aerial weapon.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman was charged with a league-high 13 drops in 2019 - five more than he had in 2018.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman (shoulder) underwent a shoulder procedure last week that is said to involve "not a lengthy rehab," and Edelman is expected to be ready for the team's offseason program, according to a league source. The 33-year-old was noticeably hindered by his shoulder to close out the year, but overall it was a very successful 2019 season. Edelman had 100 receptions for a career-high 1,117 yards and six touchdowns over a full season. It was the second time in his career that he reached the 100-catch mark as quarterback Tom Brady's only real trusted receiving option. Edelman's outlook may change if Brady isn't under center in 2020, but he should at least be a solid WR2 in PPR leagues.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (shoulder) had a minor shoulder surgery last week, but he's expected to be ready for the offseason program.
Fantasy Spin: Edelman's fantasy value will hinge largely on whether Tom Brady returns to the team. Edelman should be a low-end WR2 in PPR formats.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (rib) played most of 2019 season with a partially torn rib cartilage, according to sources. Edelman suffered the injury during the Week 3 game but did not miss any time.
Fantasy Spin: Edelman has been the main target in the Patriots passing game for many years but may be playing with a new quarterback in 2020. Fantasy players can monitor the situation because Edelman's fantasy value will depend on the Patriots quarterback.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman was arrested in California Saturday, Jan. 11, and has been charged with misdemeanor vandalism. He allegedly jumped on the hood of a car and caused damage.
Fantasy Spin: It is not known if Edelman will receive any punishment from the NFL over the arrest, so fantasy players can keep an eye on the situation. Edelman likely will be the No. 1 receiver for the Patriots again next season but his fantasy value is uncertain because of the team's quarterback situation.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee, shoulder) will undergo surgeries on his knee and shoulder this offseason, according to sources.
Fantasy Spin: Edelman probably will not do much during offseason workouts but probably will be ready for the start of the regular season. He likely will be the No. 1 receiver for the Patriots again next season and can be a No. 2 fantasy receiver.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman became only the fourth receiver in league history to catch at least 100 passes in his age-33 season in 2019, joining Jerry Rice (122 in 1995), Larry Fitzgerald (107 in 2016) and Derrick Mason (103 in 2007). Of that group, only Rice's 1,848 receiving yards topped Edelman's 1,117.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman caught only three passes for 30 yards but rushed for a five-yard touchdown in the Patriots Wild Card loss to the Titans. Edelman simply has not been the same player in recent weeks and perhaps a series of injuries had finally caught up to him. Edelman compiled only 137 receiving yards over his final four games and his lack of production devastated a struggling Patriots offense down the stretch. Edelman is coming off one of his best seasons as a pro but his value will mostly be tied to where quarterback Tom Brady plays next season.
New England Patriots QB Tom Brady completed 20 of his 37 passes for 209 yards and an interception in a 20-13 loss to the Tennessee Titans in the Wild Card round Saturday, Jan. 4. RB Sony Michel rushed 14 times for 61 yards and caught two passes for nine yards, and RB James White caught five passes for 62 yards and rushed once for 14 yards. WR Julian Edelman caught three of his five passes for 30 yards and rushed twice for 12 yards and a touchdown, WR N'Keal Harry caught two of his seven targets for 21 yards, WR Mohamed Sanu caught one of his four passes for 11 yards, WR Phillip Dorsett caught one of his four targets for six yards, and TE Benjamin Watson caught three of his four targets for 38 yards. LB Dont'a Hightower led the team with nine tackles, including eight solo stops and one tackle for loss.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman (knee, shoulder) is active for the wild-card game against the Titans on Saturday night. Linebacker Jamie Collins (shoulder) is also active, while cornerback Jason McCourty (groin) is inactive. Edelman has been far less than 100 percent in the last three weeks, and it's showed in his numbers. Still, he will be quarterback Tom Brady's top target on Saturday against a very mediocre Tennessee defense. Edelman is much riskier than he was when he was getting consistent double-digit targets earlier this year, but he's still not a bad DFS pick when many may be avoiding him. McCourty's absence is good news for A.J. Brown and Corey Davis.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee, shoulder) is active Saturday, Jan. 4, for the Wild Card Round game against the Tennessee Titans.
Fantasy Spin: Edelman will be the No. 1 option for QB Tom Brady and needs to be in fantasy lineups in all formats.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is a great option for fantasy owners this weekend in DFS games. Edelman has struggled in recent weeks with injuries but reports are positive coming out of training camp, meaning he should be fully involved this week. Tom Brady has long relied on Edelman in important games, and when he last faced the Titans, Edelman caught nine passes for 104 yards. There is no reason why he couldn't repeat that stat line and he should be a fine GPP and cash option this week.
New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman (knee, shoulder) was limited in practice all week and is questionable for the wild-card game against the Titans on Saturday night. Edelman clearly isn't 100 percent, but he'll play this weekend. After going eight straight weeks with double-digit targets, Tom Brady's top target has just 18 targets combined in the last three games. Over that span he has just 10 receptions. He'll gut it out once again against Tennessee, but he's become a much riskier DFS target for fantasy owners. As the sixth most expensive wideout on DraftKings, there's more bust potential for Edelman in the postseason.
New England Patriots WR Julian Edelman (knee, shoulder) was limited in practice Thursday, Jan. 2, and is listed as questionable for the Wild Card Round matchup with the Tennessee Titans Saturday, Jan. 4.
Fantasy Spin: Edelman caught three of seven targets for 26 yards in the Week 17 finale against the Miami Dolphins. It's tough to see him missing a playoff game due to the injuries, and he'll be a starting option as long as he takes the field.
