San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee), DE Dee Ford (back), QB Jimmy Garoppolo (ankle), LB Dre Greenlaw (quadricep) and RB Raheem Mostert (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Sept. 24. TE George Kittle (knee) was limited. CB CB Jason Verrett (hamstring) practiced in full.
The 49ers Defense should be in position to have a solid fantasy output in Week 3, despite losing star defensive end Nick Bosa (ACL) for the season. The 49ers have a plethora of injuries on offense and that will likely lead to a defensive battle in Week 3 against the New York Giants. Giants quarterback Daniel Jones has three interceptions through two games and has been sacked seven times. Expect the 49ers to hold the Giants under 20 points while also forcing some turnovers, making them a solid starting option in Week 3.
San Francisco 49ers RB Tevin Coleman (knee), DE Dee Ford (back) and RB Raheem Mostert (knee) did not participate in practice Wednesday, Sept. 23. LB Dre Greenlaw (quadriceps) was limited during practice, while CB Jason Verrett (hamstring) fully participated in practice.
The San Francisco 49ers signed pass-rusher Ziggy Ansah on Wednesday and promoted defensive lineman Dion Jordan to the active roster after they placed defensive ends Nick Bosa (knee) and Solomon Thomas (knee) on Injured Reserve. San Francisco is bringing in some replacements with Dee Ford (back) also out for Week 3 against the Giants. Ansah and Jordan will try to pick up the slack alongside Arik Armstead, DJ Jones and rookie Javon Kinlaw, but the Niners defense lost the heart and soul of their pass rush with Bosa. It'll make them a little less attractive in season-long leagues, but the 49ers Defense is still worth trotting out there in fantasy lineups this Sunday against a Giants offense now missing Saquon Barkley and Sterling Shepard, arguably their two best offensive weapons.
Free-agent DE Ziggy Ansah (Lions) officially signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers Wednesday, Sept. 23. Terms weren't disclosed. DE Dion Jordan was promoted from the practice squad. DE Nick Bosa (knee) and DT Solomon Thomas (knee) were placed on the Reserve/Injured list.
San Francisco 49ers DE Dee Ford (back) is expected to miss Week 3 against the New York Giants, and there appears to be no clear timetable for his return, according to multiple sources.
San Francisco 49ers defensive tackle Solomon Thomas (knee) was confirmed to have suffered a torn ACL in the Week 2 win over the Jets. The season got off to a bad start for Thomas when the Niners declined the 25-year-old's fifth-year option, and things just got a lot worse. The Stanford product hasn't lived up to his draft stock as a third-round pick in 2017. The 49ers had the worst luck of any team in the injury department in a Week 2 full of devastating season-ending injuries. All-Pro pass-rusher Nick Bosa also tore his ACL, ending his 2020 campaign. Look for rookie Javon Kinlaw to pick up the slack up the middle, while the Niners will also need DJ Jones and Arik Armstead to step up.
San Francisco 49ers DE Solomon Thomas (knee) has been diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will miss the rest of the 2020 season.
San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa (knee) has suffered a torn ACL and is out for the remainder of the season. The team was fearful that he would miss significant time and the MRI confirmed those fears. The 22-year-old was a big reason why the 49ers fielded arguably the league's best defense last season, as he registered nine sacks as a rookie and made the Pro Bowl. It's a crushing blow for a defense that was looking to prove that 2019 was no fluke. With multiple injuries on defense in addition to Bosa, the 49ers' unit is one that will have to be downgraded for fantasy purpose moving forward.
The San Francisco 49ers are meeting with free-agent pass-rusher Ziggy Ansah with the expectation that they will sign him after he goes through COVID-19 testing. Ansah has visited with the team twice, but the sides never agreed to a deal. With pass-rushers Nick Bosa (knee) and Solomon Thomas (knee) both suffering serious injuries in Week 2, the Niners are looking for reinforcements on the defensive line. The 31-year-old former first-round pick of the Lions in 2013 had 2.5 sacks in 11 games (one start) with the Seahawks last year and has had trouble staying on the field in his seven-year career. He could provide some much-needed depth, but Ansah won't be on the IDP radar. San Fran's defense is still worth starting in fantasy, but they'll lose some of that high-end potential with Bosa injured.
Free-agent DE Ziggy Ansah is reportedly on the verge of signing a one-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Monday, Sept. 21, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
Free-agent DE Ziggy Ansah (Lions) is flying to meet the San Francisco 49ers with the expectation of signing with them after going through COVID-19 testing.
San Francisco 49ers LB Fred Warner finished with a game-high 12 tackles, including nine solo stops, in a 31-13 win over the New York Jets in Week 2.
The San Francisco 49ers Defense suffered multiple injuries in their Week 2 contest against the Jets. Star defensive end Nick Bosa (knee) likely suffered a torn ACL according to head coach Kyle Shanahan and fellow lineman Solomon Thomas (knee) also suffered an injury that is feared to be serious. It was a rough day for injuries as a whole, as both these linemen are big catalysts for the San Francisco defense. Thomas will undergo testing on Monday to determine the severity of his injury. It's very possible that the 49ers will be without both players for the remainder of the season. This would be a downgrade for the fantasy value of this unit.
The 49ers Defense stood strong in Week 2 against the New York Jets, holding them to just 13 points in the game. The Jets only managed a pair of field goals in the first three quarters of the game, but tacked on a touchdown with under two minutes left in the game after Sam Darnold hooked up with Braxton Berrios on a 30-yard play. Unfortunately, the 49ers weren't able to come up with any turnovers in Week 2, but they did manage three sacks. Next week, the 49ers have another favorable matchup against the New York Giants so feel free to leave them in your lineup.
San Francisco 49ers DE Solomon Thomas (knee) suffered a knee injury during the Week 2 game and will not return.
