2019 RTSports Outlook

Taylor opened the season as the starter for the Browns but didn't keep the job long, getting hurt in Week 3 and never returning to the starting lineup. He served as the backup to rookie Baker Mayfield the rest of the way. Taylor was alright in his limited action early in the year. Taylor completed just 49 percent of is passes but had three touchdowns to two interceptions. He made plenty of plays with his legs, rushing 16 times for 125 yards. Taylor signed with the Chargers this offseason and will take over for the top backup. He has two season with more than 3,000-passing yards as the starter for the Bills. He also has run for more than 400 yards three seasons as the starter for Buffalo. Taylor has a very strong arm and throws a good deep ball. He will struggle with accuracy at times and still holds onto the ball too long. He doesn't force many passes and will make plays with his legs when given a chance. Taylor is indecisive with his passes and tends to stall in the red zone.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: When starting, Taylor isn't flashy for fantasy teams but a consistent producer because of his ability to run the ball. He can help as a fantasy backup but don't expect his numbers to be off the charts. But he needs a starting job first, which isn't going to happen unless Philip Rivers gets hurt.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor got some more time as the starter on Saturday against the Seahawks since the Chargers decided to sit most of their regular starters including Philip Rivers. Taylor went 6-for-9 for 61 yards and carried the ball six times for another 34 yards, leading the team in rushing attempts and YPC. Taylor was also sacked once, but he still looks like the likely suspect to be the team's backup QB. There was nothing particularly special about Taylor's performance, but he also didn't trip all over himself to open up a window for Cardale Jones or Easton Stick. That said, he'll be slotted behind Rivers, who is one of the most durable quarterbacks in the league, so it's unlikely he'll see the field for much time this year.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor started Sunday's game against the Saints and struggled to move the ball with the first-team offense. He went 7-for-10 for 57 yards, but he also suffered his first interception of the season on a tipped ball that fluttered right to a Saints DB. Taylor was unable to drive the team across midfield on any of his four drives, and it won't help his chances that Cardale Jones played well after Taylor left the field. Of course, Jones was facing a different defense and Taylor's struggles were accentuated by a poor run game that is missing its star, but it's never good to struggle when battling for a roster spot.

Los Angeles Chargers backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor looked fantastic in the first preseason game of the year against the Cardinals on Thursday. Taylor went 6-for-6 for 72 yards through the air and racked up a pair of runs for 34 more yards. He wasn't sacked a single time, and while he didn't score any touchdowns, he also didn't throw any picks. Taylor is battling with Cardale Jones for the backup gig, but the former Buffalo starter looks like the clear favorite so far. Taylor has long been known for his high accuracy and low rate of turnovers, but he's also renowned for constantly checking the ball down. The 30-year-old is likely one of the better backups in the league, and with all the Chargers' weapons, they would probably still be a very good team if they were forced to lean on him.

Los Angeles Chargers QB Philip Rivers will be held out of the team's preseason opener Thursday, Aug. 8. QB Tyrod Taylor is expected to start and be backed up by Cardale Jones and Easton Stick.

Fantasy Spin: No surprise here. In the meantime, the 37-year-old Rivers remains a solid QB2 in fantasy.

Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor seems to be fitting right in at Chargers camp, even if his attire is a strange choice. Taylor has become well-known for rocking a long-sleeve hoodie under his jersey during practice even though the temperature has climbed into the 90s during most days. Taylor laughed it off and explained that he just wants to keep sweat from reaching his hands, and apparently, it's working. Taylor has been getting praise left and right from his coaches, and a receiving corps as good as LA's can really help a QB look good. Taylor should have a firm grasp on the backup job, though the preseason will help solidify the positioning.
