2019 RTSports Outlook

Smith-Schuster was one of the best receivers in the game last year, taking a huge step forward from year one. He was eighth overall in fantasy receiver scoring. He topped 100 receptions and 1,000 yards for the first time in his career. Smith-Schuster had double-digit fantasy points all but two games. He had eight 100-yard games and three games with double-digit receptions. And with Antonio Brown gone this year, Smith-Schuster could have an even bigger role in the Steelers pass-first offense. Smith-Schuster is a big, strong receiver that isn't afraid to make the tough catch. He does lack a little top speed, but still makes many of big plays. He will drop some passes, but really improved in that area last year.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: The touchdown totals were the only thing holding Smith-Schuster back from top-five fantasy receiver last year. Expect that to change this year, getting more red-zone looks with Brown gone. He should be a top-five fantasy receiver. Look for around 115 catches for 1,500 yards and 11 touchdowns.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster stole some of the spotlight in the Steel City in 2018, and has quickly jumped to star status in the NFL. Seeing 166 targets, Smith-Schuster hauled in 111 passes for 1,426 yards and seven scores. While he still had Antonio Brown hogging a lot of targets, the second-year receiver proved to be a reliable safety net for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. An average of 8.6 air yards per target was less than the 11.6 from his rookie year in 2017, but the USC product was in Roethlisbergers sights often. Now that Brown is on the West coast, Smith-Schuster has little competition for targets. Roethlisberger has a history of force feeding his top target (aka Brown) regardless of coverage, so the 22-year-old will have no problem maintaining a high target total. His 15th overall ADP in PPR formats is right in line with his prime opportunity this year. He would only take a slight hit in standard leagues, due to not scoring more than seven touchdowns in either of his two pro seasons, but Smith-Schuster should still be considered a top eight option at wide receiver.

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) is expected to practice at some point this week, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Spin: Smith-Schuster is expected to return this week, but it'll be in a difficult matchup against the Buffalo Bills. He'll be a WR2 if he makes it back.

Dec 9 9:23am ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) is eyeing a return for Week 15 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Spin: Smith-Schuster would return to a tough matchup, but he'll be a solid WR2.

From TheHuddle

Dec 8 3:03pm ET

The Pittsburgh Steelers have declared CB Artie Burns, QB Paxton Lynch, LB Tuzar Skipper, RB James Conner, OT Chukwuma Okorafor, TE Zach Gentry and WR JuJu Smith-Schuster inactive for Week 14.

From TheHuddle

Dec 6 6:40pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) will miss a third-consecutive game against the Arizona Cardinals. Smith-Schuster hasn't participated in a practice since suffering a concussion and knee injury against the Browns in Week 11. However, he's shed the concussion tag but the knee injury is clearly still an issue. Look for James Washington and Diontae Johnson to continue to see the majority of targets in the passing game, while Vance McDonald could also have a big Week 14 against a Cardinals Defense that has allowed 13 touchdowns to tight ends.

From RotoBaller

Dec 6 3:23pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) did not participate in practice Friday, Dec. 6, and has been ruled out for Week 14.

Fantasy Spin: James Washington should receive the most targets among the receivers this week and has a good connection with Devlin Hodges. He can be a No. 3 receiver or flex option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 6 3:13pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) was unable to practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 14 versus the Arizona Cardinals. RB James Conner (shoulder) was limited in practice all week and has also been ruled out. LB Mark Barron (knee, non-injury) was limited Friday, Dec. 6, but no longer appears on the injury report. WR Diontae Johnson (illness), TE Vance McDonald (non-injury) and OG Ramon Foster (non-injury) practiced in full Friday and also have been removed from the injury report.

From TheHuddle

Dec 5 5:40pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) missed his second straight practice this week on Thursday. Smith-Schuster is unlikely to play again this weekend against the Cardinals and could be sidelined again in Week 15 if his knee injury does not improve. In an offense now run by quarterback Devlin Hodges, Smith-Schuster won't be anything more than a low-upside WR3 if he's active during the fantasy playoffs. James Washington has become a WR3 in Smith-Schuster's absence, but a projected low target share doesn't bode well for his chances of helping fantasy owners. Diontae Johnson (illness), who returned to a full practice on Thursday, will be the No. 2 behind Washington.

From RotoBaller

Dec 5 4:23pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) did not participate in practice Thursday, Dec. 5.

Fantasy Spin: Smith-Schuster probably will miss another game because of the knee injury, so James Washington will continue to be the main option in the passing game for the Steelers. He has shown a good connection with Devlin Hodges and can be a No. 3 receiver or flex option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Dec 5 12:20pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) is unlikely to return in Week 14 against the Cardinals. Fantasy owners that own Smith-Schuster shouldn't be counting on him for their lineups in the first week of the fantasy playoffs. He might not even be a lock to make it back in time for Week 15. The bottom line is that Smith-Schuster has been one of the biggest WR busts in fantasy this year due to injury and the fact that Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) was hurt early in the season. James Washington continues to be the top wideout in Smith-Schuster's absence, but he'll be a volatile WR3 with Devlin Hodges at quarterback.

From RotoBaller

Dec 4 4:23pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) didn't participate in practice Wednesday, Dec. 4.

Fantasy Spin: Smith-Schuster hasn't played since leaving the Week 11 game against the Cleveland. Fantasy managers haven't necessarily been missing his production, as he's been one of the biggest disappointments of the fantasy season. WR James Washington has played well in his absence.

From TheHuddle

Dec 4 2:40pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) said his knee is getting better, but he's labeling himself as week-to-week. He ran for the first time on Wednesday, but he is only running in a straight line and isn't cutting yet. It puts him on the wrong side of questionable for Week 14 against the Cardinals, so you shouldn't be expecting to use him in your lineups this weekend. James Washington has been the team's top wideout with Smith-Schuster sidelined, but he's still a volatile WR4/flex in deeper leagues with quarterback Devlin Hodges under center. Expect Washington to be draped in coverage by cornerback Patrick Peterson if Smith-Schuster misses another game.

From RotoBaller

Dec 3 1:33pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR Juju Smith-Schuster (knee) is questionable to play in Week 14, according to head coach Mike Tomlin.

Fantasy Spin: It's not an ideal way for the fantasy playoffs to potentially start by having him on the sidelines, but he's probably on the wrong side of questionable right now. James Washington has been great in his absence, and he'd be a WR3 against the Arizona Cardinals if Smith-Schuster can't go.

From TheHuddle

Dec 1 11:43am ET

The Pittsburgh Steelers have declared CB Artie Burns, QB Paxton Lynch, LB Tuzar Skipper, RB James Conner, OT Chukwuma Okorafor, WR JuJu Smith-Schuster and TE Zach Gentry inactive for Week 13.

From TheHuddle

Nov 29 3:30pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion, knee) has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Browns. Smith-Schuster's knee injury is what is keeping him out of this weekend's game, and he might not be a lock to return in Week 14. He's been one of the biggest wide receiver busts in 2019. James Washington, Diontae Johnson and Johnny Holton should work in three-wide sets until Smith-Schuster is able to return to action. Washington is the only wideout you should consider in deeper leagues, but his upside will be limited with Devlin Hodges throwing him passes.

From RotoBaller

Nov 29 3:03pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Cleveland Browns. RB James Conner (shoulder) was limited in practice for a second straight day Friday, Nov. 29, and is listed as doubtful. CB Artie Burns (knee) was upgraded to full practice Friday and is listed as questionable. OT Alejandro Villanueva (shoulder) and OG Ramon Foster (non-injury) practiced in full Friday and no longer appear on the injury report.

From TheHuddle

Nov 29 2:53pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) did not practice all week and has been ruled out for Week 13 against the Cleveland Browns.

Fantasy Spin: Smith-Schuster has cleared the concussion protocol but will miss a second straight game due to the knee injury that he suffered on the same play that caused his concussion. It's just as well Smith-Schuster continues to sit out for fantasy owners, as he has barely performed at a WR3 level this season without Ben Roethlisberger taking the snaps. Diontae Johnson and James Washington will continue to be dicey flex plays, although the latter has been performed at a WR3 level over the last month.

From TheHuddle

Nov 28 2:33pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion, knee) and OG Ramon Foster (non-injury) were unable to practice Thursday, Nov. 28. RB James Conner (shoulder) and CB Artie Burns (knee) were upgraded to a limited session. OT Alejandro Villanueva (shoulder) was upgraded to full practice.

From TheHuddle

Nov 28 2:10pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion, knee) missed practice for the second straight day this week on Thursday. Smith-Schuster has cleared the concussion protocol, but his knee is the bigger issue and he's unlikely to suit up in Week 13 against the Browns. You shouldn't be counting on him to help your fantasy team this Sunday. Rookie Diontae Johnson, James Washington and Johnny Holton should continue to function in three-receiver sets with JuJu expected to miss another game. He's been one of the biggest busts at any position in fantasy in 2019.

From RotoBaller

Nov 28 1:43pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster (knee) remains out of practice Thursday, Nov. 28.

Fantasy Spin: He looks highly doubtful for this week against the Cleveland Browns. James Washington should see increased targets and is a low-end WR3 option or a flex play.

From TheHuddle

Nov 27 4:10pm ET

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster (concussion, knee) has been cleared from the league's concussion protocol by an independent neurologist, but he remains on the injury report with a knee injury and didn't practice on Wednesday. The knee injury is the bigger concern now, and he was spotted with a brace on his leg. Until he makes his way back to practice, consider him extremely questionable to play in Week 13 against the Browns. Because of injuries and having Mason Rudolph at quarterback for the majority of the season, JuJu has been one of the biggest wide receiver busts in fantasy this year.
