2019 RTSports Outlook

If not for Travis Kelce having a huge season, Ertz's big year would have been talked about a lot more. Ertz topped 100 receptions for the first time in his career and finishing with a whooping 116 catches. He had 1,163 yards and eight touchdowns. Ertz had five games with double-digit receptions. He also had five 100-yard games. It was quite the season for Ertz, finishing second overall in fantasy tight end scoring. He had at least five receptions 12 of 16 games. Ertz has four straight seasons with 800-plus yards and at least 74 receptions. He has been a constant in the Eagles passing attack and should be for year to come, especially since he is 28 years old. Ertz isn't really a speed demon at tight end but runs very good routes and has solid hands. He also blocks pretty well but isn't an elite blocker by any means. He does lack a little speed to create big plays down the field but makes up for that with his hands and route running. He also has a very good rapport with Carson Wentz.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Ertz can challenge for the first overall spot at tight end. He is capable of posting huge weekly numbers in an offense that features him often. He might not get quite as many looks this year with better options in the passing game for the Eagles but should still get plenty of action. Look for around 100 catches for 1,000 yards and around double-digit scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is set for regression in 2019. This is common sense. When you break the NFL record for receptions at 116 and targets at 156 for the tight end position, there is nowhere else to go but down. This is not to say he is going to be bad, though. Ertz and Travis Kelce are still the top two tight ends in fantasy football and they will remain so this season.Ertz has never before had 100 receptions and it was a matter of massive injuries to the Eagles' offensive players which allowed this to happen in 2018. With Mike Wallace and Jay Ajayi missing most of the season on injured reserve along with Darren Sproles missing significant time with a hamstring, Nick Foles was forced to use his most reliable weapon. Zach Ertz was that weapon. With Miles Sanders and Jordan Howard manning the backfield and the return of DeSean Jackson back to the receivers group, the opportunities will just not be as plentiful for the tight end. Add to this the emergence last season of rookie Dallas Goedert as a second tight end option and Ertz is due for regression in some form. Will the 116 receptions be there this season? No. But you can still expect 85 to 90 in this potent offense. With a current draft price of the early third round behind only Travis Kelce at TE, you will have to decide early if you want to get him as a true positional advantage or if you are more comfortable getting your second starting running back or wide receiver. If you decide on the former, he will serve you well and could win you some weeks where most other tight ends wouldnt. No one can blame you but know you are passing up at worst a top-three tight end.

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz hasn't had the season he, the Eagles, or his fantasy owners wanted, but he's a solid bet to have a strong Week 12 against the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks Defense does fairly well against opposing running backs and wide receivers, but tight ends have been able to exploit them a bit this season. After a slow start, Ertz has now gone two games in a row with 11 targets thrown his way. Another double-digit target load isn't out of the question in Week 12. Fire him up with confidence as a TE1 with upside to be the top scorer at the position.

From RotoBaller

Nov 18 2:53am ET

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz logged nine catches for 94 yards during the team's Week 11 loss to the New England Patriots.

Fantasy Spin: After some lean weeks Ertz has bounced back with a vengeance, posting consecutive nine-catch outings and easily leading the team with 94 receiving yards against the Pats. He's a must-start TE1 each and every week.

From TheHuddle

Nov 17 8:00pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz led the Eagles in receiving on Sunday, catching nine passes for 94 yards. Ertz was targeted 11 times and made some huge catches even in a game where the Eagles offense struggled as a whole. Ertz was able to get open against a tough New England Patriots Defense and became the go-to receiver for Carson Wentz as he has been in the past. It hasn't been the season Ertz or his fantasy owners have wanted, but his Week 11 usage was definitely encouraging going forward.

From RotoBaller

Nov 17 12:20pm ET

The Philadelphia Eagles are in discussions for a long-term contract extension with tight end Zach Ertz, offensive tackle Lane Johnson and safety Malcolm Jenkins, according to league sources. Ertz signed his last extension in January of 2015 and has become one of the best tight ends in the league since then. Johnson is considered by some as the best right tackle in all of football, while Jenkins has emerged as a leader for Philly's defense. Despite somewhat of a down year in 2019, Ertz leads the Eagles in receptions (46) and yards (527) while finding the end zone just two times. With Alshon Jeffery (ankle) out in Week 11 against the Patriots, Ertz could be set up for another big game.

From RotoBaller

Nov 17 12:13pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz has talked with the Eagles about a possible contract extension, according to sources.

Fantasy Spin: Ertz is not posting the numbers he did last season but still has been a consistent starting option for fantasy players. He should be a weekly starting option in all leagues and likely will have a big role in the passing game this week with Alshon Jeffery sidelined.

From TheHuddle

Nov 13 11:50am ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is just an okay option in Week 11. With the New England Patriots bringing their elite defense into the Eagles home on Sunday, the entire Eagles offense is expected to struggle. While the Eagles could have a hard time moving the ball against the New England defense, Ertz should be the focus of whatever passing game the Eagles are able to get going. His upside is limited, but his floor should still be about the same as usual. He will get a slight bump in value if Alshon Jeffery (ankle) is forced to miss the game.

From RotoBaller

Nov 3 7:03pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz finished with nine receptions for 103 yards and a touchdown on 11 targets in Week 9 against the Chicago Bears.

Fantasy Spin: Ertz finally had a giant stat line that fantasy owners expect on a regular basis. The good news is his catches, targets and yards were each season bests. The bad news is Ertz and the Eagles are off in Week 10.

From TheHuddle

Nov 3 4:40pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz broke out of a season-long slump in Week 9, catching nine passes for 103 yards and a touchdown. Ertz's score came on a 25-yard pass from Carson Wentz near the end of the first half. Ertz had looked like he was about to get passed on the depth chart by sophomore Dallas Goedert, but he played a vintage Zach Ertz game today and should remain an elite TE1 this season.

From RotoBaller

Oct 30 12:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is having a very disappointing season and seems somewhat at risk of falling behind Dallas Goedert in Philly. Ertz has seen 17 targets and put up 19.2 PPR points since Week 6, while Goedert has seen 16 targets and compiled 37.9 points. For the season, Ertz has a mediocre 37/424/1 line. It's looking more and more like a changing of the guard in Philly, making Ertz a sell candidate while his name still carries more value than his performance. He could do well in Week 9, as the only exploitable weakness in the Chicago Bears pass defense seems to be at the tight end position.

From RotoBaller

Oct 27 9:33pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz finished with just two grabs for 20 yards on four targets in Week 8 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Spin: Ertz was outproduced by Dallas Goedert (3-22-1), who had one more target and the score. It's been a recurring theme, as Ertz hasn't produced like a TE1 over the past three games. He has just one touchdown all season, and eight grabs for 112 yards and no scores in the past three. You have to stick with him, as you know what is capable of doing, but he is looking like a TE2 lately.

From TheHuddle

Oct 27 5:00pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz only caught two passes in Week 8, gaining 20 yards. Ertz was only targeted four times, falling one behind his "backup" Dallas Goedert. It's been a very disappointing season for Ertz so far, as he's now made just eight catches in his past three games combined. He still has the talent to be a top-tier TE1, but until he shows the kind of involvement he did last season, he'll be more of a mid to low-end TE1.

From RotoBaller

Oct 23 12:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is looking at another tough matchup in Week 8. The Eagles will be in Buffalo to take on the Bills and their difficult defense. Ertz is coming off a disappointing two-catch, 38 yard performance in Week 7 and could put up a similar performance this week. With the Eagles offense struggling to move the ball in general and especially struggling to stretch the field, opposing defenses have been able to zone in on Ertz and remove him from a lot of plays. He's still a TE1 this week, but that speaks more to the lack of depth at the position.

From RotoBaller

Oct 21 1:03am ET

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz was held to two catches for 38 yards on five targets in Week 7 versus the Dallas Cowboys.

Fantasy Spin: Ertz was not targeted in the first half and took a back seat to backup Dallas Goedert in this one. While regression was certain to hit Ertz this year after just about everything fell into place for him in 2018, he's not currently living up to his status as the top-three tight end he was drafted to be this summer. Things are unlikely to get any easier in Week 8 versus the Buffalo Bills, who once again boast one of the stingier defenses against tight ends.

From TheHuddle

Oct 21 12:20am ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz came down with just two passes in Week 7, gaining 38 yards. Ertz was targeted five times but he was soundly outplayed by Dallas Goedert, who scored the only Eagles touchdown. Ertz has been mostly disappointing this season so far, and next week against the Buffalo Bills Defense doesn't look like a likely get-right spot. He's a TE1 no doubt, but perhaps moving slowly out of the top tier.

From RotoBaller

Oct 16 3:00pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz is set up for a big game in Week 7. The Eagles will be on the road facing the Dallas Cowboys and their stout pass defense. Their one weak spot this season has been opposing tight ends. With the Philly wide receivers likely to be covered up by the Dallas secondary, Ertz could take on an even bigger role than usual on Sunday Night Football. He's been somewhat of a letdown this season for fantasy owners with lofty expectations, but everything is lined up for Week 7 to be his best game of the season so far. Trust Ertz as your TE1 and perhaps the overall TE1 for the week.

From RotoBaller

Oct 13 9:00pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz caught four passes in Week 6, gaining 54 scoreless yards and losing a fumble. Ertz was targeted nine times, but has now scored just one touchdown through six weeks of the season. He hasn't gone over 72 yards receiving yet either. In a position as shallow as tight end, Ertz is very much still a weekly TE1, but he seems to be working with much less upside than in previous seasons. We'll see if the Eagles start getting Ertz more involved going forward.

From RotoBaller

Oct 13 5:53pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz caught four passes for 54 yards against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6. He was targeted nine times during the game.

Fantasy Spin: Ertz has been targeted at least seven times in every game this season and has been a reliable option for fantasy players. He should continue to be considered a No. 1 tight end in leagues next week.

From TheHuddle

Oct 9 12:40pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz will face a tough Minnesota Vikings Defense in Week 6. Still, he is one of the few matchup-proof tight ends in the league and will remain a top-half TE1. Ertz scored his first touchdown last week but has remained heavily involved in the passing game and could have a "blow up" game at any point. Week 6 on the road against a strong defense is unlikely to be it, but you can't put anything past someone with Ertz's talent.

From RotoBaller

Oct 6 8:43pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles TE Zach Ertz posted five receptions for 57 yards and a touchdown on seven targets in Week 5 against the New York Jets.

Fantasy Spin: Believe it or not, and his fantasy owners know all too well, it was Ertz's first visit to the end zone in 2019 through five games. Hopefully it's the first of many. He'll try to add to his scoring totals in Week 6 at Minnesota.

From TheHuddle

Oct 6 5:40pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz caught the only offensive touchdown for the Eagles in Week 5. He ended up with five catches for 57 yards on the day. His touchdown was an 11-yard strike from Carson Wentz in the second quarter. Ertz was solid in this one, but he hasn't seen the monster-share of targets his fantasy owners likely expected, especially with DeSean Jackson (abdomen) out. Still, Ertz can have a blow-up game at any point and will be a top-tier TE1 any time he's on the field.
