2019 RTSports Outlook

Burton had a productive first season with the Bears, getting a chance to serve as a No. 1 tight end. He was eighth overall in fantasy tight end scoring, having 54 receptions for 569 yards and six touchdowns. He had at least four receptions nine of 16 games. He got consistent work as the starter in this offense. His yardage totals weren't always great, though, having fewer than 40 yards 12 times. He didn't make a ton of big plays. Burton should continue to start for the Bears this season. Burton isn't a big-play threat but has good hands and runs solid routes. He also blocks well and can be a big asset in the rushing game.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Burton had his breakout season last year and could build on that a little in year two with the Bears. He'll get his catches in this offense. Consider him a low-end No. 1 tight end. Burton could get around 65 receptions for 650 yards with five or six scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Chicago Bears tight end Trey Burton will try and put together a complete season in 2019 after an up-and-down campaign last season. Burton was signed as a free agent and immediately paid dividends last season, catching four touchdowns in his first six games played. But game-planning and a lack of targets in the second half of the season made Burton seem invisible at times. The 27-year-old now heads into this season with plenty of potential but with some questions that should give fantasy owners pause. The first is the manner of how Burton scored his touchdowns. Several of his scores last season came on shovel passes behind the line of scrimmage, a play designed to surprise a defense. That element of surprise is now gone, as evidenced by Burton scoring only once in his last eight games last season. The other factor is Burton's now documented struggles with anxiety. The tight end was a surprising scratch the morning of the Bears playoff game against the Eagles last season with a groin injury that some within the organization believe was brought on by anxiety. Burton is a fantastic teammate and a true competitor but has been very open with the Chicago media about the priority he puts on his mental health. Burton will once again be ranked among the top 12 fantasy tight ends heading into drafts but red zone targets and his availability will be crucial to his fantasy success in 2019.

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy said he "feels good" about tight end Trey Burton (hernia) being ready for the start of training camp this summer. Burton had hernia surgery this offseason. The 27-year-old caught a career-high 54 passes (76 targets) for 569 yards and six touchdowns in his first year in Chicago with Nagy running the show. In this improving offense, Burton could improve further and will be a strong TE1 as long as he doesn't suffer any setbacks in training camp.

Chicago Bears head coach Matt Nagy said that tight end Trey Burton (hernia) underwent sports hernia surgery in the offseason, but the hope is that he'll be ready to return by training camp this summer. Even with Adam Shaheen also on the roster, Burton should be the top pass-catching tight end in an improving offense under quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Burton had a career-high 54 receptions for 569 yards and six touchdowns in 2018 and should be able to improve on those numbers in his second year in the Windy City.

May 29 3:13pm ET

Chicago Bears TE Trey Burton (hernia) will not participate in the offseason workouts because he is recovering from sports hernia surgery he had a few months ago. The team hopes he will be ready for training camp.

Fantasy Spin: Burton is coming off a season where he posted 569 yards and six touchdowns. He should see a solid amount of targets in 2019 and could be a No. 2 tight end in fantasy leagues.
