Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz has started contract extension talks with the Eagles, but the two sides are not close to an agreement at this point.

Fantasy Spin: Wentz is under contract for a few more years but could receive a contract extension before the start of the 2019 season. Wentz has played well when he is healthy, but he has deal with injuries over the last few seasons. He can still be a No. 1 quarterback in all fantasy leagues this upcoming season.

May 8 3:40pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles executive Howie Roseman and owner Jeffrey Lurie have been open about their desire to sign quarterback Carson Wentz to a long-term contract extension. Lurie said the team "absolutely" would be willing to ink Wentz sooner than later. This guy is going to be a great player for the Philadelphia Eagles for a long time, Roseman said. I couldnt be more excited about him and his future in Philadelphia. The 26-year-old is entering his fourth season in the NFL and has mounting injury concerns after finishing the last two seasons on the sidelines. He finished with 3,072 passing yards, 21 touchdowns, seven interceptions and a career-best 69.6 completion percentage in 11 games last year. His status for organized team activities and minicamp is unclear as he recovers from his back injury. Wentz has elite QB1 upside, but fantasy owners will be reluctant to take him early in drafts.

May 2 1:30pm ET

The Philadelphia Eagles exercised the fifth-year option for quarterback Carson Wentz on Monday. The second overall pick in 2016, Wentz has completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 10,152 yards, 70 touchdowns and a 92.5 QB rating in 40 career games. The 26-year-old started in Week 1 in his rookie season, but injuries have cut short his seasons the last two years. He set the franchise record for a single season in 2017 with 33 touchdowns in 13 starts in his second season in the NFL. The injuries have caused his price to drop in fantasy leagues, but when healthy he's showed he can be among the best signal-callers in the NFL.

Apr 29 4:33pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz's fifth-year option was exercised Monday, April 29.

Fantasy Spin: Wentz has played well when he is healthy but has missed time each of the last two seasons because of injuries. He can be considered a No. 1 fantasy quarterback in fantasy leagues, but fantasy players may want to draft a solid backup because of Wentz's injury history.

Apr 25 10:50pm ET

The Philadelphia Eagles traded with the Ravens and selected Washington State offensive tackle Andre Dillard with the No. 22 overall pick in the 2019 draft. Dillard is excellent at pass protection, so he'll be tasked with keeping quarterback Carson Wentz healthy for an entire season. His arm length is suspect and could hurt him, but he's got good feet and will be put on the spot right away at the next level.

Apr 15 3:13pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) told reporters Monday, April 15, that while he feels good about his recovery, the stress fracture in his back is still not fully healed. He added his goal is to be ready for OTAs.

Apr 15 2:30pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz said his recovery from his back injury is going well, but he's not fully healed from the stress fracture. "Its still getting there," Wentz said. His goal is to be ready for organized team activities. Wentz still has a lot of upside but is an injury risk as a QB1 heading into 2019. The Eagles no longer have the luxury of Nick Foles as a top-end backup, either, so they'll need Foles to stay healthy for a full season for the first time since his rookie season.

Mar 26 12:00am ET

Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman said that the team "wants to sign" quarterback Carson Wentz to a contract extension. Wentz is undeniably a franchise QB at just 26 years old, but he's ended the last two seasons injured and played in a career-low 11 games in 2018. He's entering the final year of his rookie deal but also has a 2020 team option. With plenty of playmakers around him still, Wentz still has plenty of QB1 upside left, but the question is if fantasy owners feels he's worth the risk due to injuries.

Mar 25 8:53pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz is a player the Eagles would like to sign to a contract extension at some point, according to general manager Howie Roseman.

Fantasy Spin: Wentz has missed time in each of the last two seasons because of injuries but is still the team's long-term option at quarterback. He has played well when he is healthy but is risky because of his injury history. He can still be considered a No. 1 quarterback in most fantasy leagues.

Mar 4 12:23am ET

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) is expected to be healthy by the start of workouts in mid-April, sources close to the quarterback said Sunday, March 3.

Fantasy Spin: Wentz has been unable to make it through the entire regular season in each of the past two years, and now the Eagles do not have a savior in Nick Foles, as he will be allowed to pursue opportunities elsewhere. You can expect the Eagles will be very, very careful with Wentz during the offseason and into training camp. When healthy, he has low-end QB1 fantasy ability.

Mar 3 6:03pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz probably will not receive a contract extension this offseason, in the opinion of The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane.

Fantasy Spin: Wentz has missed a good portion of the last two seasons because of injuries, so the team may want to see him play a full season before signing him to an extension. Wentz has played well when he is healthy and can be a No. 1 quarterback in fantasy leagues.

Feb 14 7:53pm ET

Free-agent QB Nick Foles (Eagles) is not expected to return to the Philadelphia Eagles as the backup to Carson Wentz.

Fantasy Spin: Foles deserves a starting job. He won't want to play as a backup and make less money when there are teams willing to pay him to be their starter. He can be a part of the QB1 conversation if he lands in the right spot. Of course, when Wentz is healthy he too has QB1 appeal.

Feb 4 3:10pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz said he doesn't plan on changing his personality. Im 26 years old; my personality, to some extent, aint going to change, Wentz said during a recent interview. Its whats gotten me here, whats gotten me successful. Im not going to say, Oh, now Im going to have this free-spirited, Cali-guy vibe. Thats just not going to change. A recent PhillyVoice piece painted Wentz as "selfish," "uncompromising" and "egotistical." Wentz knows he has things to work on but refuses to change the competitor inside himself. The young signal caller needs to learn to be a better teammate at times and balance his Type A personality, but he has all the physical skills to be an elite QB in the NFL. Season-ending injuries the last two years have hurt his fantasy value, but Wentz could be a nice value pick as a low-end QB1 in 2019.

Jan 22 12:00am ET

Numerous sources around the NFL and the Philadelphia Eagles said they thought quarterback Carson Wentz may have been the root of the team's offensive problems in 2018, not offensive coordinator Mike Groh. Groh is a "good coach" who was "bullied" by Wentz, according to sources. Wentz and backup Nick Foles respect each other, but the sentiment in the locker room is that Foles is "universally loved," while Wentz isn't. Sources described Wentz as "selfish," "uncompromising," "egotistical," one who plays "favorites" and doesn't like to be "questioned", one who needs to "practice what he preaches" and fails "to take accountability." While Wentz is intelligent on the football field, sources say he's the one that created friction within the offense. He listened more to coordinators Frank Reich and John DeFilippo in 2016 and 2017 and had an MVP-like season in 2017 before tearing his ACL. Foles went through progressions as the plays were intended, while Wentz pretty much just zoned in on tight end Zach Ertz most of the time. Wentz also likely returned too soon from his knee injury last season and wasn't 100 percent all year before being shut down with a fracture in his back. While these are real concerns moving forward, Wentz is the team's long-term future under center and is just 26 years old. However, his star is falling in redraft leagues as a QB1 and he has played in just one full NFL season and no playoff games. If he doesn't press and play favorites on the field and most importantly if he stays healthy, he could return to his MVP self in 2017. That's what his fantasy owners will be banking on with Foles likely out of the picture in 2019.

Jan 20 2:13pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) is expected to be healthy enough to be a full participant when offseason workouts start in April, according to sources.

Fantasy Spin: The Eagles probably will limit Wentz during the early part of offseason workouts, but he should be a full participant during minicamps and training camp. He has played well when he is healthy but has not been able to finish the last two seasons because of injuries. He can be considered a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback next season, but owners may want to consider a strong backup quarterback because of Wentz's injury history.

Jan 15 12:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson reiterated that quarterback Carson Wentz remains the team's QB of the future, not Nick Foles. Wentz's season-ending injuries the last two years and Foles' improbable Super Bowl run in 2017 and his short playoff run this year has many questioning who is the better signal caller for the team. But while Wentz is now injury-prone, he's the better quarterback when healthy and is also heading into only his fourth season in the NFL. Wentz had 33 touchdowns and only seven interceptions in 13 games in 2017 before his knee injury. He'll be a risk/reward QB1 pick in 2019 drafts, while the Eagles will likely look to trade Foles this offseason.

Jan 15 12:23pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz (back) is the team's 'starting quarterback going forward ,' head coach Doug Pederson said Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the team's season-ending news conference.

Fantasy Spin: As expected, the Eagles remain fully committed to Wentz even though he's been unable to finish each of the last two seasons. Look for Nick Foles to return on the final year of his current deal and be dealt if Philly can receive any kind of decent return in a trade.

Jan 13 3:13pm ET

The Philadelphia Eagles have declared LB B.J. Bello, CB Sidney Jones, OT Matt Pryor, DT Bruce Hector, WR Mike Wallace, QB Carson Wentz and OG Chance Warmack inactive for Divisional Playoffs.

Jan 11 4:00pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz (back) was ruled out for the divisional round against the Saints on Sunday. Wentz has yet to practice or play since a fracture was discovered in his back, and it remains a long shot that he'll play in the postseason if the Eagles pull off a big upset on the road against New Orleans this weekend. Wentz has lost some luster as a QB1 heading into next season because of injuries the past two seasons. Nick Foles has high-end upside this weekend in a game in which the Eagles will likely have to throw often.
