The Philadelphia Eagles will look to rejuvenate their offense by incorporating some principles from Rich Scangarello, who was hired as a senior offensive assistant. Scangarello was formerly the quarterbacks coach for Kyle Shanahan with San Francisco, so he will look to "Shanahan-ize" an offense that has taken steps back since finishing as the third-ranked scoring offense in 2017. Head coach Doug Peterson said he wants the offense to not only run faster, but he wants to find ways to maximize the speed they have on the field. Scangarello will spend a lot of time in the QB room which would be good news for Carson Wentz, as well as rookie Jalen Hurts whom the Eagles drafted in the second round.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz would be in favor of his team signing free-agent LB Jadeveon Clowney and doesn't call Clowney's hit on him in last season's playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks a cheap shot. 'Listen, at the end of the day, I'll trust Howie with that,' Wentz said Thursday, May 7. 'That play happened, it is what it is. That's football. It was an unfortunate way to end (the) season for me personally, but I have respect for Jadeveon, he's a heck of a player.'
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz said he suffered a concussion during the Wild Card playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks. He said he dealt with the symptoms after the game.
Fantasy Spin: Wentz has suffered several serious injuries during his career but should be 100 percent for the start of the 2020 season. He will have some new receivers to work with in the passing game and can be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz said he is excited about the addition of QB Jalen Hurts to the roster. He said Hurts will add a healthy competitive environment for the Eagles.
Fantasy Spin: Wentz will be the No. 1 quarterback for the Eagles in 2020, but Hurts may see a handful of snaps each game. Wentz is a risky option because of his injury history but can be a low-end No. 1 fantasy quarterback.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz confirmed he had a concussion last season which knocked him out of the Eagles' playoff loss to Seattle. Wentz said he was dealing with symptoms and will do what he can to protect his head the best he can moving forward. This would help explain the Eagles drafting Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round, despite Wentz being under contract through 2024. Hurts should provide solid insurance should something happen to Wentz, but Wentz is still the starter and could be drafted as a low-end QB1 in fantasy.
Philadelphia Eagles general manager Howie Roseman gave quarterback Carson Wentz quite a vote of confidence on Thursday, stating "We are married to Carson Wentz. Coach Pederson & I, (team owner) Mr. Lurie & I we are all married to Carson. Weve shown it with our actions." That all came into question a bit last week when the Eagles drafted former Oklahoma quarterback Jalen Hurts in the second round of the NFL Draft. Rumors have been swirling about the Eagles potentially using Hurts in a hybrid role perhaps somewhat like the Saints use Taysom Hill, but in reality it seems more like the team knew they needed a strong backup for Wentz due to his injury history, and Nate Sudfeld and Kyle Lauletta just wouldn't cut it for a team with Super Bowl aspirations. Time will tell if Hurts will actually see the field if Wentz remains healthy, but for now it seems like Carson Wentz remains the starting quarterback for the Eagles without any immediate competition.
The Philadelphia Eagles plan to feature more of a down-field passing game in the 2020 season, according to general manager Howie Roseman. "We want to throw the ball down the field," Roseman said, "We dont want to be station-to-station football." The Eagles were very methodical on offense late last season, but that was mostly due to almost every single offensive player being hurt. They went ahead and added three speedy wide receivers in this year's draft, highlighted by first-rounder Jalen Reagor. DeSean Jackson is also expected to be back and be healthy this season. The Eagles offense could look completely different by Week 1, and Carson Wentz should make for a strong fantasy quarterback as long as he can stay healthy.
With the 168th pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles addressed their wide receiver needs again, taking Boise States John Hightower. Last year, Philly had near historical levels of injuries and ineffectiveness from their receivers, so grabbing a late-round guy here makes sense. Hightower is incredibly fast and while he has to work on all the other areas of his game, the Eagles can always use help at the receiver position. Hightower might be able to find a role later in the season as a deep threat for quarterback Carson Wentz, though fantasy owners shouldnt be thinking about him on draft night.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz is healthy, and the team still has full confidence in him despite the selection of QB Jalen Hurts in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft, according to general manager Howie Roseman.
Fantasy Spin: Between injuries and a lack of weapons around him, Wentz enters 2020 as more of a matchup-based QB1 than a must-start option.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz needs to have more weapons added through the 2020 NFL Draft, according to an AFC personnel executive. 'I've got to think they will make it happen with a trade or straight up,' the executive said.
Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce announced on Thursday that he will continue to play football. The Eagles expected him back, but now it's official. It's great news for quarterback Carson Wentz. Kelce, 32, has played a full season in each of the last five years and seven of his nine seasons in the NFL. The durable and effective center was a sixth-round selection of the Eagles back in 2011 and will continue to snap the ball to Wentz in 2020 and possibly beyond. He's made the Pro Bowl three times in his career and has been named a first-team All-Pro each of the last three seasons. It doesn't get much better than Kelce at center.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz was hurried 67 times in 2019 - tied with Derek Carr for the second-highest total in the league.
Along with Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz, the Eagles picked up the 2021 options on quarterback Carson Wentz, wide receiver Alshon Jeffery, defensive end Brandon Graham and offensive guard Isaac Seumalo on Friday. All the moves were procedural. Wentz is scheduled to make $1.38 million and $15.4 million in base salaries the next two seasons as part of the four-year, $128 million extension he signed last year. He has been injury prone so far in his career, but he completed 63.9 percent of his passes for 4,039 yards, 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions with a barren receiver corps in 2019. Jeffery had surgery for a Lisfranc foot injury and played in only 10 games last year, catching 43 passes for 490 yards and four touchdowns. He's become less dependable for fantasy owners heading into his age-30 season.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz had the option in his contract exercised Friday, March 27.
Fantasy Spin: Wentz finished the 2019 season with 4,039 yards and 27 touchdowns. He can be considered a low-end No. 1 quarterback in most fantasy leagues next season.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz threw for 19 touchdowns versus no interceptions inside the 20 in 2019, making him only one of five regular starting quarterbacks to pass for more than 12 scores and avoid an interception in the red zone last season. He also posted a 15:0 TD-to-INT ratio inside the 10.
The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to let left tackle Jason Peters hit the free-agent market, according to sources. The nine-time Pro Bowler could be playing for another team after spending 11 years with the Eagles. Despite his age (38), Peters remained productive in protecting quarterback Carson Wentz's blind side in 2019, but it looks like the Eagles are ready to move and get younger at the position. Peters has also been a first-team All-Pro twice in his career, but he hasn't been named to a Pro Bowl since the 2016 season. It'll be worth watching if the Eagles do indeed replace Peters at left tackle.
The Philadelphia Eagles won't officially hire an offensive coordinator to replace Mike Groh, according to an NFL source. Instead, head coach Doug Pederson will go with a structure with run- and pass-game coordinators to aid him in improving an Eagles offensive unit that disappointed in 2019 despite winning the NFC East. Most of the team's offensive struggles were related to injuries to their receiving core, as DeSean Jackson missed most of the season and Alshon Jeffery was placed on Injured Reserve late in the year. If they can stay healthy for the majority of the 2020 season, Philly's offense should improve under quarterback Carson Wentz.
The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to part ways with offensive coordinator Mike Groh and wide receivers coach Carson Walch on Thursday, according to league sources. The Eagles offense was undermanned for most of the season due to injuries to wide receivers DeSean Jackson and Alshon Jeffery and running back Jordan Howard. Considering those setbacks, the Eagles made due and were respectable on offense, mostly thanks to Carson Wentz, rookie Miles Sanders and tight ends Zach Ertz and Dallas Goedert. They posted 360.8 yards per game, 239.6 passing yards per game, 121.2 rushing yards per game and 24.1 points per game.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Josh McCown completed 18-of-24 passes for 174 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions in place of the injured QB Carson Wentz (head) in the NFC Wild Card Game against the Seattle Seahawks Monday, Jan. 5. RB Miles Sanders (ankle) shook off an ankle injury to rack up a game-best 69 rushing yards on 14 attempts while adding three grabs for eight yards. RB Boston Scott ran for 25 yards on six attempts with 23 yards on three catches. TE Dallas Goedert had seven catches for 73 yards, while TE Zach Ertz had two catches for 44 yards on four targets. WR Greg Ward Jr. was the top receiver with three receptions for 24 yards.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz was officially ruled out with a head injury. Wentz was forced to leave early but remained questionable throughout the first half. Before the Eagles received the second half kickoff, however, Wentz was ruled out officially. 40-year-old Josh McCown will lead the Eagles offense for the remainder of the game. Wentz completed one pass for three yards before exiting.
