Mahomes stormed onto the scene last season and had one of the best seasons for a quarterback in the history of football. He had 52 total touchdowns to just 12 interceptions. He threw for more than 5,000 yards and completed 66 percent of his passes. He was first in fantasy quarterback scoring by more than 60 points. It was a remarkable season for Mahomes, having multiple touchdowns all but a game. Mahomes will be the starter for the Chiefs for years to come. He might have more ability than any quarterback in the game right now. Mahomes has a rocket for an arm. He reads defenses well for a young player and can make big-time plays while on the move. He makes throws that make your jaw drop. Mahomes has been a full-time starter just one season, so there is room for improvement from him, which is scary.
FANTASY OUTLOOK: Mahomes might have a hard time repeating last year. He had some kind of season. But even with that said, he should be the first quarterback off the board and post numbers kind of similar to last season. He is the real deal. Last season wasn't a fluke. He will throw for around 5,000 yards with 40 total touchdowns and a few hundred rushing yards.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes took the NFL by storm in 2018, winning the MVP in his first season as a starting quarterback while leading the NFL in touchdown passes, touchdown percentage, and QBR while finishing second in passing yardage. Mahomes finished as the QB1 in fantasy last season and his ability to make any throw and prove that an Air Raid quarterback could succeed in the NFL made him a hugely popular player. But Mahomes success comes with a downside for fantasy football players, which is trying to properly value Mahomes heading into this upcoming season. Its long been accepted that smart fantasy football players dont pick a quarterback too early, but Mahomes success last season has led to him inching higher and higher on draft boards, and hes going in the second round in plenty of early mock drafts. Mahomes is a high-floor, high-ceiling guy, but factor in a little natural regression in terms of turnovers and touchdowns, and it becomes hard to justify picking a quarterback that high, even if hes one with the skill set and the ability to finish as the overall QB1 again that Mahomes have. He should be the first quarterback off the board in fantasy drafts, but that should happen late in the third or in the fourth round in redraft leagues, which means a lot of smart fantasy players will end up missing out on him. While thatll hurt, there are other quarterbacks who can give you something close to what Mahomes can, so dont be too afraid of passing on him, even if hes an elite fantasy option.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes says he's well on his way to shedding three to five percent of his body fat by training camp as he's well into an offseason running and weight-lifting regimen. 'I've gotten more muscular and (have) less baby fat, I guess you would say,' Mahomes said in a Yahoo Sports article published Tuesday, June 2. 'So that's been the big thing for me -- sculpting my body in the best way possible so I can go through the season and feel just as fresh at the end as I did at the beginning.'
Fantasy Spin: Sure, we all know regression is coming for Mahomes after 5,097 yards and 50 TDs -- and that will be accelerated with WR TYreek Hill's expected suspension -- but he's still the near-consensus QB1 in most pre-draft rankings.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes said that he would work on his footwork during the period between minicamp and training camp. He said that he misses many plays because his feet are in the wrong position and he relies too heavily on his arm.
Fantasy Spin: Generally speaking, it is an ill-advised strategy to select a quarterback in the first round of fantasy football drafts but Mahomes may be the exception to that rule. The defending Most Valuable Player is worthy of consideration as the top quarterback off the board in all formats.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes threw for an NFL-best 1,155 yards outside of the pocket in 2018, according to Pro Football Focus.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes came through with a big-time throw on an NFL-best 12.97 percent of his attempts under pressure last season.

Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes was announced as the 2019 NFL's Most Valuable Player Saturday, Feb. 2.
Fantasy Spin: There was no doubt that Mahomes was deserving of the honor after throwing for over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns. Quarterbacks aren't traditionally selected in the first round of fantasy drafts, but Mahomes would be the exception if one were to use that strategy.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the Associated Press 2018 Most Valuable Player on Saturday. Mahomes was also named the Offensive Player of the Year in a season in which he threw for 5,097 yards, 50 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions in his first full season as KC's starter. The 23-year-old can do things on the football field that most people thought were impossible. His sheer athleticism and leadership make him a rising star in the NFL in a Chiefs offense that continues to improve. Mahomes will unquestionably be the first quarterback off the board in 2019 drafts after his excellent 2018 campaign.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was named the 2018 Associated Press NFL Offensive Player of the Year on Saturday. The second-year signal caller finished with a league-high 50 touchdowns and only 12 interceptions on the year while throwing multiple TDs in 14 games. He completed 383 passes in 580 attempts (66 percent) for 5,097 yards (318.6 per game). Mahomes beat out Drew Brees, DeAndre Hopkins and Todd Gurley for the award. The upside remains huge and he'll be the first QB taken in fantasy drafts moving forward.
Chiefs' QB Patrick Mahomes scored 27.85 fantasy points in Sunday's playoff loss against the Patriots. Mahomes threw for 295 yards on 16-of-31 with three touchdowns. Mahomes scored at least 25 fantasy points a staggering 12 times during the regular season.

Mahomes finished 16-for-31 with 295 passing yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions. The Chiefs offense had just 65 passing yards in the first half. The Chiefs played much better in the second half, but Mahomes was unable to rebound fully from a horrendous first half. Mahomes finishes up an excellent season and is on pace to become the highest paid player in the NFL in 2020.
The Kansas City Chiefs are expected to give quarterback Patrick Mahomes the league's first $200 million contract after next season, according to league sources. The expected NFL Most Valuable Player had over 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in his second season, becoming only the second quarterback to ever reach those marks. The 23-year-old has become the best fantasy QB in the league and will likely be the first one off the board in 2019 drafts.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes completed 16 of his 31 passes for 295 yards and three touchdowns and rushed twice for 11 yards in a 37-31 loss to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game Sunday, Jan. 20.
Fantasy Spin: Mahomes led the Chiefs back from an early deficit, but he never saw the ball overtime. His impressive season doesn't end with a Super Bowl appearance, but it will put him in the conversation to be the first quarterback selected in drafts in 2019.
Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes will be able to sign a contract extension after the 2019 season and could become the first NFL player to receive a $200 million contract, according to sources.
