2019 RTSports Outlook

Butt suffered a torn ACL in practice last year, making it three times he has suffered a torn ACL. He had eight receptions for 85 yards in three games before the injury. If Butt can get healthy and stay on the field, he could challenge to start for the Broncos. But injuries are a concerning, playing three games in two NFL seasons. Butt is a two-way tight end that is a strong player with plus hands. He isn't the best athlete and lacks a little top-end speed but can be a good move-the-chains tight end.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Butt is a bit of a mystery after the last two years but the potential is there for him to produce if he gets the playing time. He is more waiver wire than draft material, though. Keep an eye on him early in the year to see if he starts making an impact on the field. For now, look for around 35 receptions for 350 yards with a few scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Coming into the NFL there was a lot of hype surrounding Jake Butt. However, a leg injury suffered in the Orange Bowl meant his hype would have to take a seat on the back burner for a season. Coming back in 2018 he only played in three games and had just eight receptions for 85 yards. With tight end friendly Joe Flacco now the starting quarterback in town the future should be bright for Butt. But they arent because the Broncos drafted fellow tight endNoah Fant in the first round of the NFL draft. At 66 and 250 pounds Jake Butt is a big man. However, at 64 and 250 pounds Fant not only has the size but he is also an athletic monster with a first-round price tag. That is a price you dont spend on a tight end unless you plan on using them right away, and it means Butt is no better than the TE2 on the offense. This means unless there is an injury to Fant in the preseason, Butt is not even in consideration to be drafted for fantasy purposes. Holding him for another season or two in dynasty will be tough as doing so may not pay out either. Overall, there is really not a league format in which Jake Butt is a worthwhile player to roster. It is a shame to see what has happened since his fall from a probable first or second round pick to the fifth round due to injury. He could have been very good and talked about with the young tight ends such asHunter Henry or O.J. Howard. Unfortunately, with the selection of Noah Fant his time is past, at least until he leaves the Broncos.

Denver Broncos tight end Jake Butt (knee) is expected to be a full participant in Wednesday's non-padded practice, according to sources that informed NFL Network's Tom Pelissero. Butt was the team's starter in 2018 for three games before he tore his ACL for the third time in his career. It's notable progress, but it doesn't guarantee that Butt will be ready to go for the regular season, and he also has Jeff Heuerman and impressive rookie Noah Fant ahead of him on the depth chart. The Broncos will be happy with whatever they can get out of Butt this season. You can ignore him for now in fantasy drafts.

Denver Broncos TE Jake Butt (knee) said Monday, Aug. 5, that he appreciates the team's patience, but he knows he has to prove himself. 'I still have to go out there and prove it,' Butt said. 'I can't just sit in the trainer's room all day. I'm not naive. I know how the business works, but it does mean a lot that the coaches still believe in me.'

Fantasy Spin: Butt was an impressive specimen in college at Michigan, but he has torn his anterior cruciate ligament three times in five years and it's uncertain if he'll be back to his pre-injury form. At this point he is not someone to rely upon for fantasy, and Noah Fant is likely to be the team's top tight end.
