2019 RTSports Outlook

White had a career season as the top pass-catching back in the Patriots high-powered offense. He had 87 receptions and 12 touchdowns. White was seventh overall in fantasy running back scoring. White had double-digit fantasy points all but three games. He had multiple receptions all but a game. White didn't get quite as much work rushing the ball, having double-digit carries just twice. Expect a similar change-of-pace role for White this season. White has at least 40 receptions four straight seasons. White isn't the biggest back but has good moves and enough speed to make plays on the outside. He lacks some strength, though, and doesn't run with a ton of power. He is a solid receiver, which will gets him on the field often in this offense.

FANTASY OUTLOOK:   White isn't flashy but consistent for fantasy teams because of his reception totals. White was a top-10 fantasy back last year. He might have a hard time repeating that huge year but should be considered a top-20 back in PPR formats. He will get his catches. He'll get around 65 receptions and 900 total yards with seven or so scores.

RotoBaller's Outlook

94 rushes for 425 yards and five touchdowns is not a running back you want to draft for fantasy. Especially when he is in contention for playing time with young sensation Sony Michel and rookie Damien Harris. So why are we still going to draft him? And why is this a good move? Simple. Michel cant catch the ball. But boy, oh boy can James White.Despite only having 94 rushes in 2018, he added 87 receptions for 751 yards and an additional seven touchdowns. If there is one thing to be certain of it is when Tom Brady gets any pressure, he is going to dump down to James White. This has not only made him a valuable fantasy commodity. With Sony Michel taking most of the rushing work, and with Rob Gronkowski still playing, White was still the RB 11 for fantasy in 2018. There is a chance his passing game usage will only increase this season after the retirement of Gronkowski, and Tom Brady getting another year older. No, he is not likely to finish as the RB11 again, although it is possible. But going in the sixth round as RB29 is not bad value. If you are in any form of PPR league format, White should be a mid-round target to bolster your group. If you still play in standard leagues? Do not draft him with nearly the same level of confidence and not nearly as early. In standard leagues, he is more of a late-round dart throw in hopes something happens, or in the case that a bigger role opens up. However, in those PPR leagues do not let him pass by thinking the value is not there in 2019.

New England Patriots running back James White will be on the fantasy radar as a solid PPR play in Week 7 against the Jets. White is far off his production from last season but has been active the past three games. White has 23 receptions for 149 yards during that span and the Jets have allowed nine catches for 97 yards to running backs over their last two games. The veteran's role is mostly in the passing game for the Patriots offense and the team may look White's way with nagging injuries running through the wide receiver group at present. White will have FLEX value in Week 7 but it would be wise to deploy him in PPR leagues only.

Oct 11 12:53am ET

New England Patriots RB James White caught nine passes for 46 yards in Week 6 against the New York Giants. He also lost a yard on two carries.

Fantasy Spin: White appeared to have a touchdown late in the first half, but it was overturned on replay review and Brandon Bolden wound up punching it in from a yard out. Although the versatile back continues to be heavily targeted in the passing game, his modest yardage and touchdown numbers dictate his value lies almost exclusively in point-per-reception formats.

Oct 11 12:40am ET

New England Patriots running back James White caught nine passes for 46 yards in the Patriots 35-14 win over the Giants. White almost scored but his elbow hit the ground feet away from the football crossing the goal line. Otherwise it was an active effort from the veteran, who caught all nine of his targets. White has zero value carrying the ball but now has 23 receptions over his last three games. He will have FLEX appeal next week in PPR leagues against the Jets.

From RotoBaller

Oct 8 4:50pm ET

New England Patriots running back James White will go up against a Giants Defense on Thursday night that has allowed the 17th fewest points to opposing running backs this season. But the Giants have allowed 142 combined receiving yards to running backs in the past two games and White has 14 receptions during that span. The level of production has been a far cry from last season's output but White still has a role in an above average offense. White's value will be strictly reserved to PPR formats for Week 6.

From RotoBaller

Oct 6 6:20pm ET

New England Patriots running back James White caught six passes for 46 yards and added 26 rushing yards in the teams 33-7 win over the Redskins. White has only one touchdown on the season but will enter Week 6 with 241 all-purpose yards on the season. White has plenty of time to post better production in a powerful offense but it is already clear that his opportunities in the red zone have dipped after scoring 12 total touchdowns last season.

From RotoBaller

Oct 6 5:13pm ET

New England Patriots RB James White rushed six times for 26 yards in Week 5 against the Washington Redskins while adding six catches for 46 yards on nine targets.

Fantasy Spin: White has to contend with Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead for touches in the backfield, so his fantasy ceiling is capped. But he remains a decent RB3 or flex fantasy play in PPR leagues of 12 or more teams, with lesser value in other formats. The Patriots face the Giants on Thursday night in a short week.

From TheHuddle

Oct 4 4:50pm ET

New England Patriots running back James White has struggled to get his season going through the first four weeks of the season. White has 16 receptions for 132 yards but is barely used in the running game. He could see some early work in Week 5 against the Redskins but the Patriots could lean on Sony Michel and Rex Burkhead in the second half if they build a huge lead. This would leave the veteran White the odd-man out to produce in fantasy for Week 5. White has been a disappointment thus far compared to last year's production and lacks fantasy appeal in most formats for Week 5.

From RotoBaller

Sep 29 7:13pm ET

New England Patriots RB James White posted team highs with eight catches, 57 yards and 10 targets in Week 4 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Spin: White had an OK day for fantasy owners in PPR leagues on a day most New England players did nothing for fantasy owners. The Pats will look to get back on track in Week 5 at Washington.

From TheHuddle

Sep 29 5:20pm ET

New England Patriots running back James White caught eight of 10 targets for 57 yards in a win over the Bills Sunday. White added one carry for one yard as his primary role continues to be catching the ball out of the backfield. White's 10 targets were the most on the team as quarterback Tom Brady was looking to get the ball out quickly against a strong Buffalo pass rush. White's role in the passing game gives him a high-floor in fantasy, especially in PPR formats, but he is clearly behind Sony Michel for running down work. He will be a startable option in most leagues with a plus-matchup at Washington next week.

From RotoBaller

Sep 27 8:00pm ET

New England Patriots running back James White could emerge as an integral offensive threat this Sunday against the Bills. After a career season, it has been a quiet start for the veteran runner. But with Rex Burkhead nursing a foot injury, Sony Michel's ineffectiveness and facing a talented Bills Defense could turn things in White's favor for Week 4. The Bills have surrendered two receiving touchdowns to running backs this season and will be keying in on stopping quarterback Tom Brady and the passing game. But this is the perfect scenario for Brady to look White's way on roll-outs and checkdown's to move the chains. Even if Burkhead is limited in the game, White could post his best fantasy stat-line of the season in Week 4.

Patriots running back James White has been ruled out for the Week 3 game against the Jets because his wife is expected to give birth, according to multiple sources.

Sep 22 9:43am ET

New England Patriots RB James White has been ruled out for Week 3's game against the New York Jets because his wife is expected to give birth, according to multiple sources.

Fantasy Spin: Sony Michel is expected to receive the bulk of the carries in the New England backfield this week, with Rex Burkhead and possibly Damien Harris seeing additional offensive snaps due to White's absence. Only Michel is worthy of consideration as a starting option in fantasy leagues.

From TheHuddle

Sep 22 9:20am ET

New England Patriots running back James White (personal) won't play in Week 3 when the Patriots meet the Jets as he awaits the birth of his child. With White out, expect a healthy dose of Sony Michel on early downs and Rex Burkhead on passing downs. Michel in particular should see a ton of work in this game, as the Patriots project to go up big early and run the ball plenty in the second half. Burkhead gets a boost and looks like a high upside starting option in deeper leagues now.

From RotoBaller

Sep 17 11:00pm ET

New England Patriots running back James White is off to a slow start through the first two games of the season. With so many weapons on offense, there are a lot of mouths to feed for quarterback Tom Brady. White has seen only seven carries through the first two weeks and has eight catches for 75 yards. The veteran will face a Jets Defense that has allowed 12 receptions to running backs but the Patriots game plan could lean towards relying on the running game. White is better suited in the passing game and his production could continue to suffer.

From RotoBaller

Sep 15 4:30pm ET

New England Patriots running back James White totaled only 29 yards from scrimmage but caught a late touchdown in the team's 43-0 win over the Dolphins in Week 2. The running game revolved around Sony Michel in this contest and White was a non-factor most of the game. The Patriots have improved wide receiving talent across the board this season which should concern fantasy owners in terms of White's role moving forward in the passing game.

From RotoBaller

Sep 14 4:30pm ET

New England Patriots running back James White will go up against a Dolphins Defense that allowed a combined 34.9 fantasy points to Ravens running backs in Week 1. White posted a solid effort to start the season, catching five passes for 56 yards and adding 26 rushing yards. White's results against the Dolphins last season were mixed, racking up 112 yards from scrimmage with two touchdowns in Week 4 but was bottled up for only 27 total yards in Week 14. White certainly will have value in PPR-leagues but his numbers could be depressed if the team gets out to a huge lead early.

Sep 14 2:30pm ET

Updating a previous report, New England Patriots running back James White is making the trip to Miami and is expected to play in Week 2 against the Dolphins. There was speculation earlier that White would be missing the game with his wife expecting a child. New England's matchup with the Dolphins Defense this Sunday really doesn't get much better, so White needs to be in all fantasy lineups and has RB2 upside in what should be another Patriots blowout in Week 2. As always, White is more attractive in PPR leagues.

From RotoBaller

Sep 14 1:13pm ET

New England Patriots RB James White made the trip Saturday, Sept. 14, to Miami for the team's Week 2 game against the Dolphins. There was some speculation that White may miss the game with his wife expecting.

Fantasy Spin: White totaled 82 yards, including 56 on five receptions, in the Patriots' opening win over the Steelers and is a flex consideration this week against the Dolphins.

From TheHuddle

Sep 14 11:00am ET

New England Patriots running back James White (personal) may not play in Week 2 against the Dolphins. The veteran back and his wife are currently expecting the arrival of their new child, putting his availability for Sunday in jeopardy as he may not travel with the team. If White isnt in uniform, expect Rex Burkhead to get a sizable increase in looks from quarterback Tom Brady out of the backfield.

From RotoBaller

Sep 9 3:30am ET

New England Patriots running back James White caught five passes for 56 yards and added 26 rushing yards in the team's 33-3 romp over the Steelers in Week 1. The Patriots offense was humming straight from the start and White provided a vintage supply of production in the passing game. The Patriots alternated between White, Rex Burkhead and Sony Michel all evening to great results. The veteran running back is not the most accomplished runner but continues to be dangerous in the passing game. The offense should get an even bigger boost when Antonio Brown joins the fray in Week 2.
