2019 RTSports Outlook

Fournette was a huge fantasy bust last season, having injury issues throughout the season that limited his playing time and effectiveness. He played eight games and managed just 624 total yards. He did have a nice three-week stretch of games in Weeks 10 through 12, showing his promise. He had scores each of those games and more than 100 total yards all three of those games. He did not top 50-rushing yards the rest of the way, though, and missed two more games because of injury. Fournette will continue to be the lead back for the Jaguars and carry the load for the team, hoping to put last season behind her. Remember, he had nearly 1,400 total yards his rookie season. Fournette is a big back that can carry the load. He runs with a lot of power but also has the speed to make plays to the outside. Fournette doesn't have great moves in space and some injury concerns as evident by his first two years, but is a pretty complete back at this stage of his career. He also isn't a bad pass catcher.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Fournette is capable of being an elite fantasy back but is a concern after last year. Plus, he hasn't been able to stay healthy two straight seasons. Take him as a top No. 2 back and hope for the best. He can get around 1,400 total yards, double-digit scores and 40 receptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

When it comes to Ryquell Armstead in 2019, we can be absolutely certain that he will have zero fantasy value as long as Leonard Fournette is playing football. The thing with Fournette is he doesn't have a particularly good track record of playing football. Fournette missed three games as a rookie and half the season as a sophomore. For those of you disinterested in doing any math, he has missed 11 out of a possible 24 games. Enter Armstead, a fifth round rookie with 94th percentile speed and 60th percentile agility. Armstead is the quintessential two down grinder (he only caught 29 passes in 46 collegiate games). The competition behind Fournette is between Alfred Blue, Benny Cunningham, and Thomas Rawls. It is not a stretch to suggest that Armstead can and should beat out all of them. We know who these guys are at this point (not good). Armstead could enter the season one Fournette injury away from a 50-60% opportunity share. In standard sized leagues, he should not be drafted, but in deeper leagues, you won't find 18th-20th round picks with any real plausible upside. He's a very deep sleeper, but one to be cognizant of as training camp and the preseason move along.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette will be a big part of the passing game with QB Nick Foles in 2019, according to ESPN's Michael DiRocco.

Fantasy Spin: Fournette has just 48 career catches for 487 yards and two touchdowns over the first two seasons of his career. Foles most memorably hooked up with RB Corey Clement four times for 100 yards and a touchdown in Super Bowl LII. Fournette could be a huge steal if he continues to go in the third round of PPR drafts.

Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said that running back Leonard Fournette will be a big part of the team's offense in 2019. "Im going to call it what it is: Hes going to be a major reason where our offense goes. Im not going to sugarcoat that. Leonard Fournette needs to be a big part of this offense," DeFilippo said. Fournette was a bust last year, missing eight games last season with injuries and one to a suspension. He finished with 439 yards rushing and five touchdowns after rushing for 1,040 yards and five scores as a rookie. The 24-year-old still has a lot of upside in a run-first offense with a better quarterback at the helm in Nick Foles, but he'll be a risk/reward low-end RB1 because of the fact he's only played in 21 games in his first two seasons in the NFL.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette is being counted on to have a big season in 2019. 'We're really looking forward to Leonard having a big year,' offensive coordinator John DeFilippo said this week, via the team's official website. 'I'm going to call it what it is: He's going to be a major reason where our offense goes. I'm not going to sugarcoat that. Leonard Fournette needs to be a big part of this offense. The harder he works -- which he is right now -- that's going to be not only good for our offense, but good for our team.'

Fantasy Spin: Fournette's numbers were down markedly across the board last season as he played in only eight games due to injuries and suspension. However, we've seen what he can do when in the lineup (1,342 total yards, 10 TDs as a rookie) and that's why he will be drafted as a high-end RB2 this summer.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette won't face discipline from the team following his recent arrest for driving with a suspended license, head coach Doug Marrone said Tuesday, April 16.

Fantasy Spin: Fournette has RB1 upside, but he should be valued as a RB2 with all the other factors, including his injury history, included.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette was arrested Thursday, April 11, for allegedly driving with a suspended license. He paid a $1,508 bond and was released. The third-year running back's licenses had been suspended last November when he was cited for driving 37 miles per hour in a 25 mile-per-hour zone. He had not paid the required fine.

Fantasy Spin: Fournette has dealt with injuries and been accused of having a bad attitude, now he adds this to the unflattering list of baggage. We know that Fournette is capable of achieving RB1 status, but if these distractions persist he may be a fantasy disappointment in 2019.

Jacksonville Jaguars RB Leonard Fournette has and will continue to work out with new University of Wyoming director of sports performance Ben Iannacchione, who spent six of the past seven seasons working in the strength and conditioning program at LSU - Fournette's alma mater. Fournette also spoke with executive vice president of football operations Tom Coughlin, who still has 'full confidence' in the player he selected No. 4 overall in 2017. 'With Leonard, a prepared Leonard coming into camp with a mindset that he discussed and we talked about ... I have full confidence in him. He does have some things he's got to prove when he comes back about his preparation, but he's a young, young player, he loves football, had an outstanding year, had a very disappointing year, and I think he wants to - we want him to be a great player and I think he's in the same mindset,' Coughlin said.

Fantasy Spin: Fournette was among the bigger disappointments in fantasy in 2018, twice missing an extended period of time with hamstring injuries and earning a suspension for coming off the sidelines to throw a punch in Week 12. Owners have every right to avoid him for his lack of durability, but he is also shaping up to be a value pick if he slides into the late third round area of fantasy drafts. Until further notice, he will still be the focal point of the offense. He'll also have plenty of motivation on what should be an improved offense.
