Los Angeles Rams RB Sony Michel had 11 carries for 37 yards and a touchdown in Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks. Michel also logged one reception for eight yards.
Fantasy Spin: A fumble brought Michel's Week 4 to an early close, but he stayed involved throughout Thursday's win over Seattle. While Darrell Henderson got more touches (18 to 12) and was more effective with them (99 total yards to 45), it was encouraging to see Michel get meaningful work as he continues to familiarize himself with the Rams offense. Given Henderson's durability concerns, Michel is worth owning and could even be deployed as a possible flex.
Los Angeles Rams RB Sony Michel ran for 67 yards on 20 carries and caught three of his four targets for 12 yards in Week 3 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fantasy Spin: The 67 yards rushing were almost twice as many as the Bucs allowed to an individual rusher over the first two games. He likely did enough with this performance to make sure he sees regular work even after Darrell Henderson (ribs) is ready to return, which might happen as soon as next week. If Henderson plays, it will be difficult to each trust either one as anything more than a flex option against the Arizona Cardinals. If he doesn't, Michel would be a solid RB2 option.
Los Angeles Rams running back Sony Michel saw his first serious action since joining the team in their Week 2 win over the Indianapolis Colts. Teammate Darrell Henderson Jr. (chest) left the game and went to the locker room with an injury in the second half, and that gave Michel a large uptick in workload. He had 10 carries for 46 yards on the day, but he wasn't involved in the passing game at all. If Henderson were to miss any serious time moving forward, Michel would immediately become the leader in this backfield with RB2 potential.
Los Angeles Rams RB Sony Michel rushed 10 times for 46 yards after RB Darrell Henderson (ribs) did not return against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2.
Fantasy Spin: If Henderson misses extended time, Michel should offer RB2 potential as a the top back for the Rams. Grab him if he is available in your league.
Los Angeles Rams running back Sony Michel could remain in a clear backup role for yet another week. "You have confidence that you can utilize him, if need be," explained head coach Sean McVay. "But Darrell Henderson, I thought, did a great job." This certainly does not sound like a vote of confidence in the former Patriots first-round pick, especially after he logged just one carry for two yards last week. McVay added, "You do want to be able to say, 'Hey, if we're able to sustain drives, be able to get some things off, could you expect to see Sony?' That's a possibility, but Darrell's a guy that's done a really nice job and I was really pleased with how he got stronger as the game went on." Michel doesn't figure to carve out a significant workload soon and thus can safely be left on waivers.
Los Angeles Rams running back Sony Michel is a player that could be interesting later this year in fantasy, but he can ride your bench in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears. Michel just recently joined the roster, and he figures to be the RB2 in this Rams offense behind Darrell Henderson. The Bears were 14th against the run last season despite missing Akiem Hicks and Eddie Goldman during the year. Until Michel becomes the primary runner or this offense becomes more run-heavy, you can avoid putting him in your fantasy lineups in standard-sized leagues.
Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay said running back Sony Michel will be ready for the regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears. The Rams reportedly won't know for sure until they put the game plan in Wednesday/Thursday. Michel was traded from the Patriots to the Rams during training camp after the team lost star running back Cam Akers (Achilles) for the season. The 26-year-old could see early-down work and is expected to take some carries away from Darrell Henderson, who is currently dealing with a thumb injury. Michel rushed for 449 yards on 79 carries and one touchdown while catching seven passes for 114 yards and a touchdown over nine games for the Patriots in 2020. The Georgia product doesn't catch many passes but could be excellent value as an RB3/4 in upcoming fantasy drafts if he becomes the Rams' primary running back.
Los Angeles Rams RB Sony Michel has a good chance to be available for the Week 1 game, but head coach Sean McVay said the team will know more after a few practices.
Fantasy Spin: Michel probably will be eased into the offense if he is active for Week 1 but should see more work as the season progresses. He may not be a starting option this week but could be option later in the season.
Los Angeles Rams running back Sony Michel said his goal is to be ready for the Week 1 season opener after recently being traded from the New England Patriots to the Rams in light of Cam Akers' (Achilles) season-ending injury. The move to LA should give Michel more of an opportunity than he had in Bill Belichick's backfield behind Damien Harris. Akers is already out for the year and the oft-injured Darrell Henderson Jr. (thumb) is out for the rest of the preseason. Henderson should be the team's primary running back when healthy, but Michel is an upgrade over both Xavier Jones and Jake Funk in terms of pure ability and experience. Because of his lack of pass-catching skills, Michel doesn't offer much upside in PPR leagues. However, his stock is certainly up with the move to Los Angeles.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel was traded to the Los Angeles Rams Wednesday, Aug. 25, in exchange for a 2022 sixth-round draft choice and a 2023 fourth-round draft choice.
The New England Patriots traded running back Sony Michel to the Los Angeles Rams for 2022 fifth, and sixth-round draft picks. It can be converted to a fourth-round draft choice if the Rams get a compensatory pick. The Rams backfield has been hit with a slew of injuries during training camp (Cam Akers, Darrell Henderson) and acquired Michel for running back depth. He should have more opportunities with the Rams and could steal some early-down work from Darrell Henderson, who is currently nursing a thumb injury. Michel rushed for 449 yards on 79 carries and one touchdown while catching seven passes for 114 yards and a touchdown over nine games for the Patriots in 2020. Despite the recent acquisition of Michel, Henderson (thumb) is the Rams running back fantasy managers should be targeting in their upcoming drafts.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel was acquired by the Los Angeles Rams for two late-round conditional draft picks Wednesday, Aug. 25, according to sources.
Fantasy Spin: Michel will provide some depth and push Darrell Henderson. It will take some time to get acclimated, and he doesn't offer a lot through the air. Michel could be an RB3 by midseason and is worth stashing.
New England Patriots running back Sony Michel was able to see some playing time during their second preseason game versus the Philadelphia Eagles. Both J.J. Taylor and Rhamondre Stevenson stole the show on the ground. However, Michel was able to get involved with seven carries for 34 yards on the ground, which is a decent performance. Although, he really thrived in the receiving game with four receptions for 37 yards through the air. Michel becoming a dual-threat type of player is only going to help him in the long run. Honestly, Michel is in danger of losing his spot to these young backs, so he'll need to continue producing like this if he needs to stay involved every Sunday.
New England Patriots RB Sony Michel could potentially lose his roster spot to fourth-round rookie Rhamondre Stevenson because the latter is more likely to be a factor on special teams, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
The New England Patriots picked up the fifth-year option for the 2022 season on offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn on Monday. On the flip side, they declined the fifth-year option for running back Sony Michel. Michel was the 31st overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft and would've made $4.523 million in 2022 had his option been picked up. He'll have a base salary of $1.79 million this year. He had 2,292 yards rushing on 535 carries and 14 touchdowns in his three seasons with the Pats, but he played in just nine games (six starts) due to injury in 2020 and rushed for only 449 yards and one score. Michel was barely used in the passing game as well. He'll return to a backfield committee with James White, Damien Harris and rookie Rhamondre Stevenson this year. Wynn was the No. 23 overall pick in 2018 and will make $10.413 million in 2022.
