Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten will be a low-ceiling TE2 option in Week 2. Much like he's been most of his career, Witten was able to catch short passes and fall down in Week 1. One of those short passes just happened to be a touchdown, giving Witten some fantasy relevance in the first week of the season. He should be a decent red zone target for Dak Prescott, but will have a very low floor in weeks where he does not find the end zone. Witten is a desperation-only play in most formats.

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten caught three passes for 15 yards and a touchdown on Sunday, Sept. 8, against the New York Giants.

Fantasy Spin: It was a nice story for Witten to come out of retirement and score a touchdown, but at 37 the team is going to picks its spots with the veteran, leaving him without sustainable fantasy appeal.

Sep 8 8:00pm ET

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten scored a touchdown in his return to an NFL field. The veteran former broadcaster caught three passes, gaining 15 yards total. His touchdown came on a four-yard strike from Dak Prescott in second quarter. Witten did what Witten has always done, which is basically to catch anything that comes his way before falling to the field. He'll score some touchdowns this season, but won't be consistent enough and won't have the yards to keep him effective in fantasy when he doesn't score. He may be a solid if risky DFS choice some weeks, but he's not a recommended starting option in standard formats.

Sep 4 12:50pm ET

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is not a strong fantasy option in Week 1. Witten is returning to the field from the broadcast booth and should more or less be the same player he was before: he'll catch the ball and fall down on it. Witten could have some value in TE premium leagues, but even then there will be better options available. Witten should deliver points every week and is one of the least likely tight ends to deliver a goose egg, but he also may be one of the least likely tight ends to have a huge outing.

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten said he experienced some jitters Saturday, Aug. 17, as he made his return to live action for the first time since ending his one-year retirement. Witten caught one pass for 10 yards in the Cowboys' preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams. 'A year away from the game, all the work to get back here since March, getting in shape, getting your body ready, having an opportunity, I know I've got a lot to prove,' Witten said. 'It wasn't perfect. I thought we're on schedule with the things I want to work on. Able to get a third-down conversion. Dak showed he had the confidence on that. Some of the other things in the passing game, running game, I felt good with. It's always tricky when you're coming back out here ... so the jitters were real. A lot of work to get back to here, but it felt good.'

Fantasy Spin: Witten's return to the Cowboys will mean a lot more in reality than fantasy, where he isn't a consideration outside of super-deep and tight end-premium leagues.

Aug 17 12:30am ET

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten is "better, stronger and faster" than he was before, according to quarterback Dak Prescott. Witten took a year off to work in the broadcast booth but couldn't stay away too long. He's atop the Cowboys tight end depth chart but should cede some playing time to Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz. Witten's upside remains what it was before: a guy who will catch what is thrown to him and go down without dropping the ball. He's a depth piece and shouldn't be targeted as a starter.

May 24 9:53pm ET

Dallas Cowboys TE Jason Witten 'hasn't lost a step' after taking a year off, according to QB Dak Prescott. 'I guess the trick is to take a year off because he's definitely gotten better, stronger and faster,' Prescott said.

Fantasy Spin: Witten could still be a reliable underneath target and red zone option for Prescott, but the veteran is expected to play limited snaps. At best, he's a touchdown-dependent TE2.

From TheHuddle

May 24 3:00pm ET

Dallas Cowboys tight end Jason Witten, who came out of retirement after a year in the Monday Night Football broadcast booth, has impressed his teammates so far this offseason. Witten looks great and appears to be stronger and faster than he was in 2017, when he had 63 catches for 560 yards and five touchdowns. He played in all 16 games from 2004-17, but the Cowboys want to play it smart with the veteran and limit his snaps by keeping him out of a third of organized team activity practices and into training camp. The 37-year-old is expected to share time with Blake Jarwin and Dalton Schultz in 2019, so he's unlikely to be a TE1 for fantasy purposes. I guess the trick is to take a year off because hes definitely gotten better, stronger and faster, quarterback Dak Prescott said. He hasnt lost a step.
