Free-agent WR Antonio Callaway (Browns) lost his appeal of a 10-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, according to a source.
Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway learned on Friday morning that he lost his appeal of a 10-game suspension for another violation of the NFL's substance-abuse policy. Callaway is currently on waivers after the Browns announced they were moving on on Thursday. The talented wideout fell in the 2018 draft because of off-field issues, and they have resurfaced in the NFL. The fourth-round pick had 51 catches for 675 yards and five touchdowns in 20 games with the Browns the last two seasons. He could latch on elsewhere next season, but Callaway might not be around in the NFL for much longer.
Free-agent WR Antonio Callaway is facing a 10-game suspension for another violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy, according to sources. He is currently appealing the suspension.
Fantasy Spin: Callaway may be able to find a new team before the end of the season, but fantasy players in all leagues need to avoid him at this time.
Former Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway is reportedly appealing a 10-game suspension that the NFL handed down earlier in the season. He tested positive for a banned substance after using a CBD edible product in the summer to deal with an ankle injury. Callaway has had several drug-related incidents since declaring for the NFL draft, including a positive test at the combine and a four-game suspension to begin the 2019 season. Cleveland finally gave up on Callaway on Thursday, waiving the former fourth-round draft pick while citing that the receiver had "too many issues." Callaway's appeal with the NFL was heard on Friday and he is still awaiting the NFL's final decision.
Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway was waived Thursday, Nov. 14. OL Drew Forbes was activated from the Reserve/Injured list to take his spot on the roster.
In a surprise move, the Cleveland Browns announced that they waived wide receiver Antonio Callaway on Thursday. Callaway was suspended ahead of the team's Week 10 matchup against the Buffalo Bills for arriving late but he was expected to return for Thursday night's showdown against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Instead, Callaway didn't respond well to the benching, prompting Cleveland to release the 2018 fourth-round draft pick. The Browns will move forward with Rashard Higgins as their No. 3 receiver. Callaway should catch on somewhere as he is regarded as a talented player but he might have to settle for a practice squad spot. Offensive lineman Drew Forbes was activated off of injured reserve to take Callaway's roster spot.
Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway's benching was only for the Week 10 game, and he will return to the lineup for Week 11, according to head coach Freddie Kitchens.
Fantasy Spin: Callaway likely will serve as the No. 3 receiver for the Browns this week against a good Pittsburgh Steelers defense. Fantasy players can consider benching Callaway if they have better options available.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway was a surprise healthy scratch ahead of his team's Week 10 game against the Buffalo Bills. According to head coach Freddie Kitchens, Callaway's benching was a "one-game thing" so the second-year wideout should be active for Thursday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. A source told the Plain Dealer that Callaway's benching was for disciplinary reasons. When asked, Kitchens responded, I dont know if hes gotten the message or not, but Im not wavering. It was only for yesterday, yes.'' With Callaway back in the fold, Sunday's hero Rashard Higgins will presumably go back to the bench in three-wide packages.
Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway has been declared inactive for the team's Week 10 game.
Fantasy Spin: Callaway has been targeted 15 times in four games this season, but the team probably wants to look at the other receivers on the roster. Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry are the only Browns pass catchers that should be starting options in fantasy leagues.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway is a healthy scratch for his team's Week 10 matchup against the Buffalo Bills. Callaway was spotted on the field during pregame warm-ups but was announced as inactive shortly thereafter. The team has not yet given an explanation for why he will not play. Rashard Higgins will presumably slide into the No. 3 wideout role for Cleveland with Callaway out. Higgins is not a strong fantasy option going up against a tough Buffalo pass defense.
The Cleveland Browns have declared WR Antonio Callaway, WR Taywan Taylor, LB Olivier Vernon, OL Kendall Lamm, CB Eric Murray, TE Ricky Seals-Jones and DB Robert Jackson inactive for Week 10.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway is coming off his most productive game of the season in which he caught four passes for 56 yards against the Denver Broncos in Week 9. He draws a tough Week 10 matchup against a Buffalo Bills secondary that ranks No. 5 in DVOA this season. Callaway could see a few more targets with top Buffalo cornerback Tre'Davious White expected to cover Odell Beckham Jr. for much of the afternoon but he just isn't consistent enough to trust in fantasy. Treat Callaway as a desperation flex for Week 10.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway caught 4-of-5 targets for 56 yards in a 24-19 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 9. That goes down as the best game of the season for the second-year wideout who was suspended for the first four weeks. Callaway now has eight catches for 89 yards through four games. He continues to be nothing more than a desperation flex option in 12-team leagues. Keep him on the bench in Week 10's matchup against a tough Buffalo Bills Defense.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway caught 2-of-3 targets for 11 yards in a 27-13 loss to the New England Patriots in Week 8. It was a slow afternoon for the second-year receiver, who had a long gain of just eight yards. Callaway continues to operate as the team's No. 3 receiver but the Cleveland offense has not good enough to support their top receivers, let alone a tertiary option such as Callaway. He will not be on the map in Week 9's road matchup against the Denver Broncos.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway caught two of his four passes for 22 yards in a 32-28 loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6. A week after dropping a would-be touchdown in the end zone, Callaway again struggled to hold onto the ball. He dropped two catchable passes, including one that would have gone for a long gain in the first quarter. The second-year receiver was suspended for the first four games of the season, so it is possible that he is still shaking off the rust. Even so, he will have a tough time making an impact in fantasy as long as Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry are healthy. Callaway has his bye in Week 7 before a tough road matchup against the New England Patriots in Week 8.
Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway posted two grabs for 22 yards on four targets in Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Fantasy Spin: Callaway was a little better than his debut on Monday night after a four-game suspension. However, he still has a ways to go before fantasy owners can trust him on a regular basis. The Browns are off in Week 7.
Cleveland Browns wide receiver Antonio Callaway struggled in his 2019 debut in Week 5 after serving a four-game suspension to open the year. Callaway dropped a would-be touchdown at the goal line, which resulted in an interception. While it wasn't a good outing for the second-year wideout, his usage in the red zone was encouraging. With the amount of attention defenses will pay to Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry, Callaway should see some opportunities against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6. He will also draw the most favorable matchup of the trio as he will run routes against Tre Flowers, who is allowing 0.35 fantasy points per route covered. Callaway remains a desperation flex play but he could surprise if you are forced to play him due to bye weeks.
Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway will remain as the No. 3 wideout for head coach Freddie Kitchens in Week 6 against the Seattle Seahawks. 'I definitely will,' Kitchens said in a conference call Wednesday, Oct. 9.
Fantasy Spin: Callaway played 21 snaps in his season debut in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers, and it was mostly a disaster. While he might stick as the No. 3 wideout, he should be used as a WR5 only in the deepest of fantasy leagues at this point.
Cleveland Browns head coach Freddie Kitchens said he'll "definitely" stick with wide receiver Antonio Callaway as the team's third wideout despite his terrible season debut on Monday night in the blowout loss to the 49ers. The fourth-rounder was suspended the first four weeks for violating the league's drug policy. He was penalized for a false start and had no catches on three targets in the loss, with two of them being interceptions. Callaway, who had trouble lining up correctly, was benched in the second half for Damion Ratley. Callaway has potential, but with quarterback Baker Mayfield struggling behind a poor offensive line, he isn't much of a fantasy option heading into Week 6 against the Seahawks.
Cleveland Browns WR Antonio Callaway had no receptions on two targets in Week 5 against the San Francisco 49ers.
Fantasy Spin: Callaway was back from a four-game suspension, but he looked rusty. Fantasy owners will want to see him return and show some consistency before trusting him in the active lineup again. The Browns host the Seattle Seahawks in Week 6.
