2021 RTSports Outlook

Hurts got his chance late in his rookie season but made the most of it. He had 22-plus fantasy points three of his last four games in a starting role for the Eagles. Hurts had two 300-yards passing games and another hitting the 100-yard rushing mark. He should his dual threat ability as a starter in the NFL. He does have some things to work on, though, especially when it comes to accuracy. He completed just 52 percent of his passes and had four interceptions. Hurts is the quarterback for the Eagles going forward after the team traded Carson Wentz this offseason. Hurts is not a great passer but can make a ton of plays with his legs. He plays like a running back at quarterback. His arm strength is a concern, but he made some plays down the field last season. His accuracy will need to continue to improve to be an every-week starter in the NFL.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: His ability to make plays on the ground makes him an intriguing fantasy option. His fantasy numbers from last year show he can help teams. And if he can get better throwing the ball, watch out. For now, take him as a top No. 2 fantasy quarterback. He could emerge as a legit No. 1 at some point, but don't draft him as that. He carries some risk. For now, look for around 3,000-passing yards, 30 total score and 800-rushing yards.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Jalen Hurts started and finished just three games as a rookie in 2020, but it was enough of a sample size to showcase his ability as a runner. He averaged 79.3 yards on 12.7 rushing attempts per game in those three games. He also threw for 282.3 yards per game with a total of five passing touchdowns and just two interceptions. He completed just 54.9 percent of his passes in those three games, but fortunately, that won't negatively affect his fantasy production in most league formats. The Eagles traded Carson Wentz and passed on Justin Fields in favor of Heisman-winning wide receiver DeVonta Smith in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft. It's clear the team is doing its part to foster the success of Jalen Hurts. Draft him with confidence this season after the top-tier quarterbacks are off the board.

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni isn't ready to name a starting quarterback for the Eagles, saying that second-year passer Jalen Hurts will have to compete this summer for the job. Hurts should easily win that job, considering his competition right now on the roster is just veteran Joe Flacco. Hurts wasn't the most consistent thrower last year, completing just 52 percent of his passes, but he had 354 rushing yards and three touchdowns on the ground. He brings an element this Philly that they just haven't had in recent years and assuming he's named the starter, he has fantasy QB1 appeal based on his rushing floor.

Feb 1 12:20pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni hinted on Monday that the team could feature a quarterback competition between Carson Wentz and Jalen Hurts this summer. "A core value, is competition," Sirianni said. "That's competition everywhere. Everybody is going to compete." It remains a mystery if Wentz will even be on the roster, and it is unknown if he even wants to remain with the Eagles after being benched in favor of Hurts last season. Philly would take on $34 million in dead salary cap money if they were to move Wentz. The 28-year-old had his worst season in 2020 and had beef with former head coach Doug Pederson, which is part of the reason why the Eagles fired the former coach. But even if Wentz sticks around in 2021, he won't be guaranteed the starting gig after Hurts gave this offense a spark late last season. Wentz won't be a redraft option in early fantasy football drafts, and his dynasty/keeper stock has taken a big hit.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Miles Sanders said that "nobody" on the team liked the decision to bench rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts for Nate Sudfeld in the Week 17 loss to the Washington Football Team, who took the NFC East title with the win. Head coach Doug Pederson was determined to get Sudfeld some work in the game, but many players and coaches on the sidelines were "shocked and outraged," according to The Philadelphia Inquirer's Jeff McLane. Hurts was 7-for-20 for 72 yards and also ran the ball eight times for 34 yards and two touchdowns before being pulled. Sudfeld predictably struggled, tossing an interception and losing a fumble. Philly has a major decision to make under center heading into 2021. Is Hurts their guy or will they give Carson Wentz another chance? Hurts outplayed Wentz when given the opportunity, and his dual-threat ability will make him a high-end QB2 in 2021 if Wentz is out of the picture.

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts was benched in the fourth quarter of Week 17's loss to the Washington Football Team. Before being pulled, Hurts had completed just seven of his 20 pass attempts for 72 yards and an interception. He was much more effective on the ground, rushing eight times for 34 yards and two touchdowns. Nate Sudfeld took the ball in the fourth quarter, leaving the Eagles with way more questions than answers heading into the offseason. Their QB situation will be one of the more interesting things to keep an eye on throughout the offseason.

Dec 30 4:30pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts will get the start in Week 17 to close out the Eagles season against the Washington Football Team. With the Eagles eliminated from playoff contention after last week's loss, it wasn't immediately clear who would get the start under center, but coach Doug Pederson announced that it would be the rookie Hurts. Hurts has been a top-13 fantasy quarterback in all three of his starts, including the overall QB1 in Week 14. That's still only led to one actual win though. The Eagles will be trying to play spoiler as a Washington win will land them in the playoffs as NFC East "champions" this season. Hurts is a QB1 with upside despite a tough defense on the other side of the ball.

Dec 28 2:10pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said that rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts will start in Week 17 against the Washington Football Team on Sunday night. Hurts has started the last three games after taking over for an ineffective Carson Wentz in Week 13. In his first three NFL starts, Hurts has gone 62-for-113 for 847 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions while running 38 times for 238 yards and a score on the ground. The Oklahoma product did throw two picks and lose a fumble in the Week 16 loss to Dallas, but there's no denying that he's provided a much-needed spark for this Eagles offense. Hurts has thrown for over 300 yards in each of the last two games. The 22-year-old will have a tough matchup against Washington to close out the year, but he'll be a QB2 with upside as the Eagles look to spoil Washington's playoff hopes.

Dec 27 8:30pm ET

Philadelphia's QB Jalen Hurts passed for 342 yards on 21-of-39 with one touchdown in Sunday's game in Dallas. He did throw two interceptions in the loss. It was Hurts's 2nd consecutive 300+ yard passing game. He has averaged 340 yards passing in those games.

Dec 27 7:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts totaled over 400 yards of offense in a Week 16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Hurts completed 21 of his 39 pass attempts for 342 yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions. Hurts also ran the ball nine times for 69 yards. He played very much like a rookie in this one, making some excellent plays right next to some head-scratching ones. Hurts completed passes to nine different receivers, continuing a trend of spreading the ball around to anyone in an Eagles jersey. The loss eliminated the Eagles from the playoff picture, so they'll wrap up their season next week against the Washington Football Team.

Dec 23 7:40pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts is easily in the QB1 conversation in Week 16. In fact, he may be somewhere in the top half of that list. Hurts has been the overall fantasy QB13 and QB1 in his two starts, respectively, and those were against much better defenses than his Week 16 opponent in the Dallas Cowboys. Hurts could have league-winning upside in the fantasy championship and should be started in every format in which he's rostered.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (ankle) and nose tackle Antwaun Woods (ankle) will not practice this week, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. Vander Esch is dealing with a high-ankle sprain and is likely to miss the final two games of the regular season. That's a big blow to the interior of Dallas' defense against the Eagles and impressive rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts in Week 16. If that's it for LVE in 2020, the linebacker will finish with 60 combined tackles, a forced fumble and a sack in 10 games for Dallas. He's played in just 19 games over the last two seasons due to injuries, but he's in play in IDP leagues when healthy. The Cowboys Defense shouldn't be trusted in fantasy lineups, especially without Vander Esch, in Week 16 against Philadelphia.

Eagles' QB Jalen Hurts scored an impressive 41.20 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 15 loss in Arizona. Hurts threw for 338 yards on 24-of-44 with three touchdowns.

Dec 21 7:10pm ET

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch (ankle) is highly unlikely to participate in Sunday's game versus Philadelphia due to a sprained ankle that he sustained in Week 15 against San Francisco. Head coach Mike McCarthy believes that it will be a multi-week injury for Vander Esch, which now puts the remainder of his season in jeopardy. Vander Esch has combined for 60 tackles across 10 games (all starts) in 2020, adding a sack and a forced fumble. While there had been optimism earlier in the day about Vander Esch's status, it's likely that Joe Thomas handles middle linebacker duties next week against the Eagles, dealing yet another blow to a much-maligned Cowboys Defense. The group was already likely out of range of fantasy intrigue against the Jalen Hurts-led attack, but Vander Esch being out of the mix solidifies that the unit should remain on the wire.

Dec 21 12:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts will make his third start in Week 15 against the division-rival Cowboys, according to head coach Doug Pederson. At this point this was just a formality after Hurts threw for 338 yards and three touchdowns while adding 63 rushing yards for another touchdown in the Week 15 loss to the Cardinals. The 22-year-old exceeded expectations in his first career start against a tough Saints Defense in a win last week, and he certainly didn't disappoint in his second career start. Hurts has provided the necessary spark for an Eagles offense that was stuck in neutral for most of the year under Carson Wentz. He has made everyone around him better and he should have some QB1 upside in a Week 16 meeting against a Dallas defense that isn't scaring anyone.

Dec 20 10:20pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts was responsible for four touchdowns in a Week 15 loss to the Arizona Cardinals. Hurts completed 24 of his 44 pass attempts for 338 yards and three touchdowns. He added 11 rushes for 63 more yards and another touchdown. Hurts moved the ball much better than Carson Wentz did at any point this season, but it wasn't enough to give the Eagles their fifth win of the season. Hurts looked good on the ground like last week, but looked better through the air than he did last week. Hurts is sure to get the Week 16 start against an exploitable (but suddenly effective) Dallas Cowboys Defense. He'll be a QB1 for the fantasy championships.

Dec 20 11:20am ET

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts is expected to be the starting quarterback in Philly for the rest of the 2020 season. Hurts is a dual-threat player who made a major impact on the ground in his first NFL start, rushing for 106 yards. His presence helps negate some of the offensive line issues that had hurt Carson Wentz. This doesn't mean Hurts will be the starter in 2021, but things are looking bleak when it comes to Carson Wentz's future in Philadelphia.

From RotoBaller

Dec 16 5:20pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts is set for at the very least a strong rushing performance in Week 15 against the Arizona Cardinals. Hurts ran for 106 yards last week against the Saints and ended up as fantasy's QB13. The Cardinals have an imposing pass defense, but they've allowed the fifth-most rushing yards to opposing quarterbacks, so while Hurts may not fill the stat sheet with his arm, he's a pretty safe bet to get things going with his legs. His upside is somewhat limited by the players around him on offense, but his rushing ability makes him a low-end QB1 with a higher floor than most ranked around him.

Dec 15 12:00pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Jack Driscoll (knee) will miss the rest of the 2020 season with a significant MCL sprain in his knee, according to sources. Driscoll toughed it out to finish the Week 14 win over the Saints, but further testing showed the full extent of the ailment. The 23-year-old from Auburn had been playing well for the Eagles, too, so it's another big loss for their beat up offensive line. Philadelphia already has offensive linemen Andre Dillard, Jason Peters and Lane Johnson on Injured Reserve due to injuries. The loss of Driscoll on top of that is bad news for running back Miles Sanders and rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts moving forward. Arizona's defensive line could take advantage in Week 15.

Dec 14 12:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts will make his second career start in Week 15 against the Cardinals after leading the team to an upset win over the Saints in his first career NFL start on Sunday. Hurts completed only 56 percent of his passes and averaged 5.6 yards per completion through the air, but his legs were the story, running the ball 18 times for 106 yards. He became the first rookie QB to throw for a touchdown and run for over 100 yards in his first NFL start. The Oklahoma alum provides a dual threat under center and sparked an offense that had been stuck in neutral all year under Carson Wentz, but fantasy managers will want to see more before crowning him as a QB1. The Cardinals Defense has allowed the fifth-most rushing yards (316) to QBs this year, but they've only allowed two rushing touchdowns. Hurts will be a QB2 with upside because of his rushing ability this weekend.

From RotoBaller

Dec 14 12:20pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson wouldn't name a starter at quarterback for Week 15 against the Cardinals despite rookie quarterback Jalen Hurts playing very well in the upset win over the Saints in his first career start in Week 14. However, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport says it's basically a foregone conclusion that Hurts -- who became the first rookie QB to run for 100 yards and throw a touchdown pass in his first NFL start -- will start again against Arizona this weekend. With just three games remaining in the regular season, Hurts could have cemented himself the starting gig the rest of the way over Carson Wentz, whose contract could be traded in the offseason. Hurts is an intriguing dual-threat signal-caller, but he averaged only 5.6 yards per completion on Sunday against a very tough Saints Defense. Fantasy managers will want to see more from Hurts as a QB2, but his rushing ability will give him a higher floor than most.
