Quarterback Cody Kessler was waived by the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. Kessler had a chance to win the Eagles backup job this preseason, but he suffered a concussion which led to the Eagles luring Josh McCown out of retirement. McCown easily won the backup job and will hold the clipboard for starter Carson Wentz. Kessler ended up attempting just 15 passes in the preseason, completing seven of them. He'll latch on as a backup somewhere else before long.
Philadelphia Eagles DE Kasim Edebali, DE Eli Harold, LB Hayes Pullard and TE Will Tye were released Friday, Aug. 30. The team also waived WR Carlton Agudosi, S Trae Elston, C Anthony Fabiano, S Deiondre' Hall, CB Ajene Harris, CB Josh Hawkins, QB Cody Kessler, OT Riley Mayfield, CB Jeremiah McKinnon, WR Marken Michel, RB Donnel Pumphrey, OG Keegan Render, CB Sojourn Shelton, LB Alex Singleton, WR DeAndre Thompkins, S Jason Thompson and LB Chris Worley as well as waived/injured DT Aziz Shittu (undisclosed).
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Cody Kessler played in Thursday's preseason game, completing three of his five pass attempts for 34 yards. Kessler had to leave a game earlier in the preseason and missed practice time due to a concussion, but he was able to get cleared and played a bit on Thursday night. With the Eagles signing Josh McCown, Kessler might not make the final 53-man roster, but he should catch on as a backup before long somewhere this season.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Cody Kessler (concussion) has resumed practicing. He was the main backup to starter Carson Wentz after Nate Sudfeld (wrist) got hurt, but the Eagles signed Josh McCown after watching their two backups go down. McCown will serve as the primary backup once the season starts, and Kessler's likely only around until Sudfeld is able to return.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Cody Kessler (concussion) is at practice Monday, Aug. 19, while wearing a uniform.
Fantasy Spin: Kessler now needs to compete with veteran Josh McCown to be the primary backup to Carson Wentz under center. Either one would likely have a moderate amount of fantasy appeal in the right match up if Wentz were to miss any more time.
Updating a previous report, Philadelphia Eagles QB Cody Kessler (head) was placed in the NFL's concussion protocol Thursday, Aug. 15.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Cody Kessler suffered a concussion on Thursday night. He attempted four passes before being forced to leave the game, completing one for 11 yards. Kessler will enter the concussion protocol and while he should be ready for Week 1, fifth-rounder Clayton Thorson is the only one left to backup starter Carson Wentz in Philly.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Cody Kessler (head) left the preseason game early Thursday, Aug. 15, and is being evaluated for a head injury.
Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said that he is 'very comfortable' with QBs Cody Kessler and Clayton Thorson serving as backups to Carson Wentz in the wake of Nate Sudfeld's (wrist) injury.
Philadelphia Eagles number three quarterback Cody Kessler completed three passes in six tries on Thursday, going for 12 scoreless yards. It wasn't a significant performance by Kessler, but it was significant because the guy right ahead of him on the depth chart, Nate Sudfeld, could miss time with a wrist injury. Kessler would be the next guy up and could serve as Carson Wentz's direct backup if Sudfeld misses time and the Eagles don't upgrade the quarterback room.
Philadelphia Eagles QB Nate Sudfeld is a 'lock' to make the team despite an 'up and down' offseason, according to NJ.com's Mike Kaye, who adds that QB Cody Kessler would likely need a major injury to Sudfeld or QB Clayton Thorson to land a spot on the 53-man roster.
