Player Notes
Nov 8 1:20am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has seen his usage drop like a rock since Melvin Gordon returned to the team, but he's still an incredibly talented player who can make things happen. On Thursday night, Ekeler was the man who brought LA back into the game when he darted into the end zone on a six-yard pass from Philip Rivers. Ekeler was on a drag route across the middle when he made the easy catch and threw on the afterburners to sneak in for the score before anyone touched him. Ekeler's value will almost entirely hinge on touchdowns since his touches will likely stay under 10 in most games, but in deep leagues, that can still play.

Nov 8 12:53am ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler ran six times for 19 yards against the Oakland Raiders on Thursday, Nov. 7. He also caught two passes for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Spin: It was a mostly quiet evening for Ekeler, who took a backseat to Melvin Gordon on the ground and was unusually quiet as a receiver, too. At least he managed to salvage his value with a late touchdown, which is something he's shown a knack for this season, having scored nine times with at least one in six of 10 games. He should be a solid option in Week 11 against the Chiefs.

From TheHuddle

Nov 7 3:30pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has more than proven that he can be a huge playmaker when the ball's in his hands, but with Melvin Gordon back to his full form and the bevy of offensive weapons that surround Ekeler, getting the ball into his hands will be the real challenge. Since Gordon's return, Ekeler has seen his usage drop precipitously, and there's no reason to think that will change moving forward. The only sign of hope for Ekeler is that he's electric when catching passes out of the backfield, and Oakland happens to struggle against those plays. Unfortunately, betting on a long shot like that is risky at best, and most owners should avoid such a move.

Nov 4 2:30am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler got to show off a few of his moves this week. Ekeler got to carry the ball 12 times, the most carries he's had in over a month, and he racked up a flashy 70 yards with the opportunities. He even included a 16-yard run that featured him side-stepping a tackler like a matador without ever slowing down. Ekeler was held out of the end zone for the first time in three weeks, but Sunday was a nice reminder of how dangerous a player Ekeler can be when given a chance. Hopefully, he'll continue to get touches moving forward.

From RotoBaller

Nov 3 10:43pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler rushed 12 times for 70 yards and caught all four of his targets for 23 yards in a 26-11 win over the Green Bay Packers in Week .

Fantasy Spin: It was Ekeler's first extensive action in the run game since Melvin Gordon returned, so fantasy owners shouldn't expect this type of usage going forward. Relying almost entirely on his production as a receiver, Ekeler has been reduced to a risky flex option in PPR formats.

From TheHuddle

Nov 1 7:30pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler has really taken a backseat with the return of Melvin Gordon to the backfield. He has eight rushes for 10 yards the last two weeks, but he has also caught nine balls for 137 yards and two touchdowns in that span. The Green Bay Packers are a midrange matchup, but they haven't allowed backs too much through the air. Running backs are averaging fewer than four grabs for 28 yards in the last five games with one total score through the air. Ekeler will test that as a good RB2 in point-per-reception formats, but he falls to flex status otherwise.

Oct 28 12:00pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was able to catch a touchdown pass in the victory over the Chicago Bears, saving his fantasy performance. Ekeler struggled in the game, only recording a total of 22 yards, with 19 of those coming from three receptions. Ekeler has continued to be marginalized since the return of Melvin Gordon, who immediately took the reigns of the backfield since his return. Going into Week 9, Ekeler could struggle to have an effective fantasy performance. While the Packers have given up an average of 21.6 points to running backs this season, they have been effective at stopping receiving yards and touchdowns, which is primarily the role of Ekeler in the Chargers offense.

From RotoBaller

Oct 27 4:33pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler rushed three times for just three yards in Week 8 against the Chicago Bears and he added two catches for 19 yards and a touchdown.

Fantasy Spin: Ekeler didn't have a lot of touches, totaling five to just 10 for Melvin Gordon. The yards were hard to come by for both against a tough Bears defense. He remains more of a RB3 or flex fantasy option heading into Week 9 against the Green Bay Packers at home.

From TheHuddle

Oct 27 10:20am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler should be considered as a flex option for his matchup against the Chicago Bears. Ekeler has seen a reduction in carries since Melvin Gordon returned to the team, but he still has been heavily involved in the passing game. The Chicago Bears have given up an average of 28.9 points to the position this season, with the majority of that coming from the past two weeks. The Bears have allowed 348 receiving yards to running backs, which is the sixth-highest total in the league. With the work in the passing game and some rushing work mixed in, Ekeler should be considered an RB3, making him perfect for flex consideration.

Oct 22 4:05pm ET

Chargers' RB Austin Ekeler scored 25.50 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 7 loss in Tennessee. Ekeler ran for 7 yards and caught seven passes for 118 yards with one touchdown. It's the 3rd time this season Ekeler scored at least 25 fantasy points in a game.

Oct 21 12:30pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler only produced seven rushing yards on five carries in Week 7, but he salvaged the day by catching seven passes for 118 yards and a touchdown. Melvin Gordon had 16 carries in the contest despite being outplayed by Ekeler, but the Chargers continue to let Gordon dominate the ground game. Nevertheless, Ekeler's ability as a receiver continues to give him value as a fantasy asset. He is an above-average flex option against the dominant Chicago Bears' defense in Week 8.

From RotoBaller

Oct 20 10:13pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler rushed five times for seven yards and caught seven of his eight targets for 118 yards and a touchdown in a 23-20 loss to the Tennessee Titans in Week 7.

Fantasy Spin: Ekeler has barely been used as a runner since Melvin Gordon returned, but he remains an important part of the passing attack. He has a solid flex candidate with RB2 potential in PPR formats.

From TheHuddle

Oct 20 7:30pm ET

Chargers' RB Austin Ekeler had 7 receptions for 118 yards with one touchdown in Sunday's loss in Tennessee.

Oct 19 7:00pm ET

Austin Ekeler started the season with a bang, but the Ekeler show ended when Melvin Gordon returned to the fold. Ekeler barely left the sidelines last week against the Steelers. Granted, the game script couldnt have been worse for the Chargers as they found themselves trying to erase a 14 point deficit early in the game. Still, the disparity in touches was alarming if you own Ekeler. The Titans dont have the fire power to put up points quickly against the Chargers, so there should be a more equal timeshare in the backfield. Regardless, weve seen what Ekelers floor is, and it isnt pretty.

From RotoBaller

Oct 14 2:10am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was already expected to see a drop in usage due to the full return of Melvin Gordon, but he was further buried when the team was suddenly down 14 points before the end of the first quarter. While Ekeler has the ability to be a star, and he showed that ability in the first few games of the season, he's held down by the situation he's in. Gordon will see the majority of carries, and Ekeler will easily become a victim of circumstances. This game isn't enough to predict his entire future since the whole team played terribly, but anyone still holding on to Ekeler should be very concerned about what lies ahead.

From RotoBaller

Oct 14 1:23am ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler gained 14 yards on five carries against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 6. He also had 14 yards on three catches.

Fantasy Spin: LA's offense never got going until late, and Ekeler was used sparingly with a season-low eight touches. The Chargers need to find ways to work around their o-line trouble, which could mean more short passes. Ekeler should stay in RB3 territory against the Titans in Week 7.

From TheHuddle

Oct 11 9:00pm ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back/pass-catching extraordinaire Austin Ekeler will likely see a whole lot of opportunities again this week. Ekeler caught a whopping 15 passes last week against the Broncos, and with LA squaring off against a hard-nosed Pittsburgh defense, expect Philip Rivers to use Ekeler as an easy out once again. That said, there are some risks to Ekeler this week, such as the expectation that Melvin Gordon will see an increase in usage and that Keenan Allen roasted Pittsburgh from the slot last time the two matched up, so LA may push him into that position again. Ekeler's riding that fine line where he can boom or bust from week to week due to the plentiful weapons around him, but for now, it looks like Rivers still knows that getting the ball in Ekeler's hands allows good things to happen.

From RotoBaller

Oct 7 2:40am ET

Los Angeles Chargers running back Austin Ekeler was pushed aside for Melvin Gordon this week, but after Gordon proved to be ineffective on the ground, the team turned back to Ekeler to keep them in the game. He proved up to the task. While Ekeler only carried the ball three times for seven yards on the ground, he got plenty of work through the air. Working as the team's checkdown, Ekeler caught 15 passes for 86 yards. Unfortunately, it appeared Denver did this by design as they regularly left Ekeler alone enough to get the pass but regularly collapsed multiple defenders on him before he could turn around and get rolling downfield. Expect Ekeler to still see some work in future games, but don't be surprised if he goes back to last year's stats now that Gordon is back.

From RotoBaller

Oct 7 12:03am ET

Los Angeles Chargers RB Austin Ekeler rushed three times for seven yards and caught 15 of his 17 targets for 86 yards in a 20-13 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 5.

Fantasy Spin: Ekeler was targeted early and often after the Chargers fell behind early, but fantasy owners shouldn't ignore the fact that he was barely used in the run game now that Melvin Gordon is back in the mix. Ekeler isn't going to catch 15 passes every game, and he could be more of a PPR flex option going forward.

From TheHuddle
