Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said on Monday that quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (knee) will be day-to-day this week, according to Terrin Waack of AtlantaFalcons.com. Penix suffered a bone bruise in his knee late in the Week 7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers and did not play in Sunday's upset loss to the visiting Miami Dolphins. Atlanta's offense didn't have any juice with both Penix and top receiver Drake London (hip) both inactive. Backup QB Kirk Cousins fell flat in his first start of 2025, throwing for only 173 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions against a soft Dolphins defense. It's unclear if Penix will be able to return to action in Week 9 against the New England Patriots, and it will depend on how much he's able to do at practice this week. If Penix makes progress and returns on Sunday against the Pats, he'll be back in play as a midrange QB2 in fantasy football lineups.

Dynasty | Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 21-of-31 passes for 173 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions in a loss to the Dolphins. Dynasty Analysis: Anyone who was thinking Cousins is a better option than Michael Penix Jr was silenced in this one as Cousins was completed and totally ineffective in a spot start. He routinely failed to make plays and his 5.6 yards per attempt was simply anemic. Cousins will look to bounce back should Penix miss more time but any quarterback-needy team watching this one failed to come away very impressed. Cousins' dynasty value is just about zero at this point.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is officially inactive for Sunday's contest against the Miami Dolphins. Penix was unable to practice in full this week and will now miss his first game of the campaign. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status next week, leading up to their Week 9 matchup against the New England Patriots. After totaling 250 yards and a score in their Week 6 victory over the Bills, Penix took a step back last Sunday, tallying in their loss to the 49ers. As a result, veteran QB Kirk Cousins is set to make his first start of the season. Cousins is worth viewing as a mid-end QB2 facing a struggling Miami defense. However, his upside will be capped, as he will be without his top wideout, Drake London (hip).

According to NFL Media's Ian Rapoport, Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (knee) "has a real chance" to play in Week 9 against the New England Patriots. The signal-caller was limited in practice throughout the week because of a bone bruise in his knee. Although Rapoport added that Penix might have been on the field had it been a playoff game, it appears Kirk Cousins will get the start in Sunday's meeting with the Miami Dolphins. Cousins has had a productive career in the National Football League. He's appeared in 165 regular-season contests, throwing for 43,008 yards, 288 touchdowns, and 126 interceptions while completing 66.9% of his throws. The 37-year-old has a favorable matchup on the horizon versus a Dolphins defense that has allowed 29.3 points per game during the 2025 campaign. Granted, Cousins still may not be the safest fantasy option. However, with players like Lamar Jackson (hamstring), Bryce Young (ankle), Brock Purdy (toe), and Jayden Daniels (hamstring) ailing along with more than a handful of teams on a bye, Cousins at least warrants consideration for Superflex formats. The same can be said for single-QB setups.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said that quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (knee) is questionable to play in Week 8 against the Miami Dolphins due to a knee injury. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's D. Orlando Ledbetter also reports that Morris said Falcons backup quarterback Kirk Cousins has taken more reps later in the week. Through six games, Penix Jr. has completed 61% of his pass attempts for 1,409 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions. If he is unable to play against Miami, the Falcons have one of the most experienced backups in the league in Cousins. In 14 starts for Atlanta last season, the 37-year-old Cousins completed 66.9% of his pass attempts for 3,508 yards, 18 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. Should Cousins get the start in Week 8, he would profile as a solid fantasy QB2 but should likely be avoided in single-quarterback formats.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (knee) was limited in practice on Thursday for the second straight day this week due to a bone bruise in his knee. However, he told reporters on Wednesday that he was feeling good after he injured his knee late in the Sunday night loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 7. When asked if he plans to play this Sunday against the visiting Miami Dolphins, the second-year signal-caller said, "Yes, that's the plan." The 25-year-old southpaw has completed only 61% of his 195 pass attempts through six games in 2025, throwing for 1,409 yards, five touchdowns, and three picks in his first full year as Atlanta's starter. The matchup in Miami is an excellent one, but the Falcons may not need to rely much on Penix's left arm. Fantasy managers should consider the Washington product as a midrange QB2 play this weekend.

Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said that quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (foot) is still day-to-day and will be limited in practice on Wednesday, according to Marc Raimondi of ESPN. Penix suffered a bone bruise in his foot in the Week 7 loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday night, putting his availability for a Week 8 tilt against the Miami Dolphins this Sunday somewhat in question. The 25-year-old second-year QB's injury doesn't sound too serious, but it's enough to keep him out of a full practice in the first session of the week. Morris is optimistic about Penix playing this weekend, but fantasy managers will want to monitor the left-hander's status the rest of the week. If he can practice in full on Thursday or Friday, he should be just fine to play against Miami, where he'll have clear QB1 upside against the Dolphins' weak defense. If Penix cannot go, veteran Kirk Cousins would see his first action of the year and would immediately be on the streaming radar in fantasy leagues.

Oct 21 8:10am CT

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. (leg) is dealing with a bone bruise in his lower leg, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, and the second-year QB should be "good to go" for Sunday's home game against the Dolphins. Penix and the Falcons are looking to bounce back from a 20-10 loss on Sunday Night Football to the 49ers, and they'll be in a very favorable matchup to do that against the 1-6 Dolphins, who were just crushed by the Browns. Penix threw for 241 passing yards and a touchdown in the loss while also turning the ball over once with a fumble. Since he was able to play through the injury in Week 7, it's no surprise that he should also be able to play in Week 8. If he is surprisingly out, Kirk Cousins would step in and start in his place. Most of the Dolphins' defensive troubles have been against the run, so Penix's injury could mean even more work and more success for Bijan Robinson and Tyler Allgeier in a smash spot this Sunday.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed 21 of his 38 pass attempts for 241 yards and one touchdown with no interceptions and a lostfumble in Sunday night's 20-10 loss to the 49ers. Despite a banged up San Francisco defense, the Falcons were onlyable to muster 10 points, a disappointing trend that has plagued the Falcons and Penix on the road this season. In three home matchups, the team has put up 78 points, compared to a paltry 16 points in three road contests. Thankfully for the25-year-old QB, Atlanta will be at home in Week 8, and it brings a fantastic get-right matchup with the Dolphins. Miamihas been one of the most fantasy-friendly defenses to play against this year, allowing at least 27 points in six of seven games thus far. On the downside, per Ian Rapoport, head coachRaheem Morris stated that the 2024 first-round draft pick is dealing with a bone bruise in his foot and ankle which he suffered in Sunday's loss, and for now is considered day-to-day. Fantasy managers considering streaming Penix against the Dolphins should monitor his practice status throughout the week.

Oct 18 12:40pm CT

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is coming off two consecutive solid performances and will take on the 49ers on the road in San Francisco on Sunday night. The 49ers are middle of the pack in terms of fantasy points allowed to opposing QBs this year, and middle of the pack in terms of both passing (214.3) and rushing yards (107.3) on the season, however, San Francisco has allowed the fourth-most passing yards per game over the last three weeks (266.7). This is, of course, largely attributable to the absence of Nick Bosa (knee) and Fred Warner (ankle), who will both be out on Sunday as well (and for the rest of the season). While that bodes well for the Penix, the lefty QB could again be without Darnell Mooney (hamstring) who did not practice on Friday after getting in two limited sessions earlier in the week. All in all, the 25-year-old projects as a low-end QB2 on Sunday night with high-end QB2 upside with all the other offensive talent on this team at his disposal.

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. completed 20 of 32 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown in Monday night's 24-14 win over the Bills, adding two rushes for six yards. The former first-round draft pickhas looked more confident in his last two contests (69 percent completion rate, 3:1 TD:INT) after posting duds in Weeks 2 and3 (54 percent completion rate, 0:2 TD:INT). Still, even thoughhe's recorded one rushing score this season, the 25-year-old has gained just 37 yards on the ground through five games in 2025, so he does not have that weekly floor built into his fantasy value that so many other QBs have these days, currently ranking as the No. 27 QB in fantasy. The University of Washington product will face a 49ers defense in Week 7 that is middle of the pack in termsof allowing fantasy production to opposing QBs, but proactive managers interested in a streaming option might look ahead to the following week, where he'll face a soft Miami defense that has been generous in the passing game, giving up the third-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.

Oct 11 1:00pm CT

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. is coming off a 313-yard, two-touchdown performance in Week 4, and although a Week 5 bye afforded him extra time to prepare for the team's Week 6 opponent, the Bills will present a challenge nevertheless. Buffalo has allowed the seventh fewest fantasy points per game to opposing QBs so far this season, and have limited teams to 154 passing yards per contest, which is second-fewest in the league. It also won't help that it is looking like Darnell Mooney (hamstring) is unlikely to suit up for this one. On the bright side, this game features one of the highest expected point totals on the slate (49.5), and the Falcons could be playing from behind for much of the game, which could mean that the second-year quarterback will have to throw it more to keep pace. The 25-year-old will also have the home crowd at his back, and there will be no weather elements to contend with inside the dome in Atlanta, but in the end the lefty QB projects as a low-end QB2 this week.

Sep 30 11:30am CT

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. got back on track in Sunday's 34-27 win over the Commanders, completing 20 of his 26 passes for 313 yardsand two scores. He did throw one interception as well and was sacked once. The former first-rounder's 90.5 QBR for the game was a solid increase from the 71.3 rating he had going into the contest, and there was a marked improvement in the second-year quarterback's average yards per pass attempt, going from 6.1 in Weeks 1-3 to 12.0 in Week 4 (the highest of any QB). While it was a great bounce-back performance after two down weeks, the 25-year-old draws Buffalo in Week 5 after the team comes out of their bye, and the Bills have limited opposing passers to 125.8 yards per game thus far, which is the fewest yards passing per game in theentire NFL, so fantasy managers may want to look elsewhere for streaming options the next time Penix takes the field.

Atlanta's QB Michael Penix Jr. passed for 313 yards on 20-of-26 with two touchdowns in Sunday's win against the Commanders.

Sep 26 9:30pm CT

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. had a week to forget in Week 3, completing just 50 percent of his passes (18-for-36) with no touchdowns and two interceptions in the 30-0 blowout loss to the Panthers. The 25-year-old now has just a 1:2 TD:INT through three contests, with the lone touchdown coming on a 50-yard catch-and-run to Bijan Robinson in Week 1. The former first-rounder will have a home matchup withthe Commanders in Week 4, a defense that has yielded the eighth-most fantasy points to opposing QBs through the first three weeks, including a three-touchdown performance from an aging Geno Smith last week, and has only given up just one rushing scorethus far. Even so, Atlanta may try to lean on Robinson and the run game for as long as they can in this matchup, as the lefty QB has one of the lowest completion rates (58.6 percent), a poor QBR (71.3), low yards per pass attempt(6.1), and per completion (10.43). As a result, Penix sets up as a borderline QB2/3 in Week 4.

Sep 24 11:10am CT

Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris said that the team's confidence in quarterback Michael Penix Jr. remaining the starter is "absolutely still in place." Penix Jr. struggled mightily in the team's 30-0 Week 3 loss to the Carolina Panthers, completing 18 of 36 pass attempts for 172 yards and two interceptions. After a 298-yard performance in Week 1, Penix Jr. has now failed to crack 200 yards passing or find the end zone in two consecutive games. Atlanta has a proven veteran quarterback in Kirk Cousins waiting in the wings, but it does not appear that the team is anywhere close to making a switch under center. Penix Jr. profiles as a low-end fantasy QB2 heading into his Week 4 matchup against the Washington Commanders.

From RotoBaller

Sep 23 9:10am CT

Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Penix Jr. had his worst game since taking over as the team's starting quarterback on Sunday against the Panthers. He completed only 18 of 36 pass attempts for 172 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions. On Monday, in his press conference, head coach Raheem Morris said, "He was off... I don't want to take away the fact that he did not play well." Morris added that Penix "Got a little down on himself, got a little upset." Penix is a first-year starter, so some inconsistency is to be expected, but hopefully, he can avoid such a drastic down game again this season. He and the 1-2 Falcons are home this week against the Commanders before heading into a Week 5 bye week. For now, Penix will remain the starter, although more games like Sunday's could result in calls for Kirk Cousins to take back over.
