Tennessee Titans QBs Marcus Mariota and Ryan Tannehill are expected to find out Monday, Oct. 14, who will start in Week 7 versus the Los Angeles Chargers. Head coach Mike Vrabel announced the decision will be made sometime Monday evening.
Fantasy Spin: It's a pretty good indication Tannehill will be named the starter, as most coaches have no problem shooting down any such speculation immediately when they feel strongly about the man holding the job. Mariota was playing turnover-free ball until Week 6, but the Titans have seemingly been trying to hide him for the better part of the season - if not longer. However, it's debatable whether Tannehill will provide much of a spark to the offense, leaving him firmly in QB2 territory.
Tennessee Titans QB Ryan Tannehill completed 13-of-16 passes for 144 yards, no touchdowns and one interception in the Week 6 game against the Denver Broncos after replacing the ineffective QB Marcus Mariota.
Fantasy Spin: It's uncertain if head coach Mike Vrabel will stick with Tannehill, or go back to Marcus Mariota, but neither is a particularly attractive fantasy option at this point. The Titans host the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 7.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was benched in the third quarter of the Week 6 matchup versus the Denver Broncos. Mariota was abysmal on Sunday, competing 7 of 18 passes for 63 yards and threw two interceptions in the loss. He was missing wide open receivers all day long, so this wasn't a surprising move. Head coach Mike Vrabel went with veteran Ryan Tannehill after Mariota threw his second interception of the day. It's unclear who is going to get the nod next week versus the Los Angeles Chargers, but regardless neither quarterback will have much success in that one.
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota was lifted late in the third quarter of the Week 6 game against the Denver Broncos after going 7-of-18 for 63 yards, no touchdowns and two interceptions. QB Ryan Tannehill entered in his place.
Fantasy Spin: The move is believed to be due to performance and not any kind of injury. Mariota and the Titans offense was disastrous in the early going.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota has protected the ball extremely well thus far in 2019, with seven total touchdowns and no turnovers through five games. While the Titans do want him to continue protecting the ball, they also need him to start pushing the ball down the field for more big plays. Look for offensive coordinator Arthur Smith and Mariota to make it a point to attack the Broncos secondary down the field in Week 6, possibly paving the way for more big plays and fantasy opportunities for the offense. Nonetheless, Mariota is still nothing more than a desperation QB2 in a rather tough road matchup.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota had a miserable performance against Buffalo in Week 5. With the Bills Defense recording five sacks on the day, the 25-year-old wasn't able to get anything going, finishing with 183 yards on 13-for-22 passing. Though Mariota nearly threw a go-ahead touchdown pass to A.J. Brown early in the fourth quarter, officials called it back after it was determined that he was over the line of scrimmage. The 2015 second-overall pick hasn't played too bad this season, however, as he has yet to throw an interception while maintaining an acceptable 61.7 completion percentage. He will look to get back on track against the Broncos in Week 6.
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota 13-for-22 for 183 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions against the Buffalo Bills in Week 5. He also rushed for 13 yards on five carries during the game.
Fantasy Spin: Mariota has been inconsistent in terms of his performances. He has thrown for at least three touchdowns in two games this season and has been held to one touchdown in the other three combined. He will be facing the Denver Broncos next week but probably can be avoided in most leagues.
Titans' QB Marcus Mariota scored 25.55 fantasy points in Sunday's Week 4 win in Atlanta. Mariota threw for 227 yards on 18-of-27 with three touchdowns.
Tennessee Titans left tackle Taylor Lewan is returning from his four-game suspension this week. The three-time Pro Bowler will be a big boost to an offensive line that wasn't doing a very good job of protecting Mariota through the first four weeks of the season. Lewan and the Titans O-line will certainly have their hands full for their Week 5 matchup with a stingy Bills Defense. But Lewan's return to action is a bonus for Mariota moving forward.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota bounced back in a big way from his horrid Week 3 performance in Jacksonville. Mariota completed 18 of 27 passes for 227 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 4 win against the Atlanta Falcons, also adding three rushes for 22 yards. Most importantly, Mariota avoided taking any sacks after taking nine a week ago. This was one of the more complete performances we've seen from Mariota in recent memory, but he will face a tall task in Week 5 when the Buffalo Bills and their top five defense visit Nashville.
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota went 18-for-27 for 227 yards and three touchdowns against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 4. He also rushed for 22 yards on three carries during the game.
Fantasy Spin: Mariota has thrown seven touchdowns and zero interceptions in four games this season and was able to connect with multiple receivers this week. He will be facing a solid Buffalo Bills defense next week but could still be a low-end No. 1 quarterback in some deeper leagues.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota was sacked an outrageous nine times in the Week 3 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, totaling 17 sacks on the season. While part of this is due to the absence of star left tackle Taylor Lewan (suspension), the Titans must do a better job protecting their quarterback going forward. Luckily, the Atlanta Falcons have totaled just five sacks through three weeks of the 2019 season. Expect the Titans to try to establish the run early in Week 4, limiting both Mariota's dropbacks and his fantasy value.
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said the team isn't looking at a quarterback change from Marcus Mariota to backup Ryan Tannehill right now. Mariota came into the 2019 needing to prove more after being the second overall pick in 2015. He has failed to do that, going 56-for-92 (career-low 60.9 completion percentage) for 706 yards. The only positive is that he's thrown four touchdowns and no interceptions, but he's looked pretty bad and is just too inconsistent to trust in fantasy, even as a QB2. If this keeps up, it won't be long before Tannehill gets his chance. In this run-first and stale offense, Tennessee's receivers will continue to disappoint their fantasy owners.
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota remains the team's starter as head coach Mike Vrabel said Friday, Sept. 20, that the team is currently not looking to make a change at the position .
Fantasy Spin: Despite two straight losses, Mariota's three-game season stats (60.9 completion percentage, 706 yards, 4-0 TD-to-interception ratio) aren't horrible, and one of the main issues has been a lack of protection with Tennessee surrendering 17 sacks in three games and a 15.6 percent sack rate. Ryan Tannehill, though, is one of the league's better backups, and if the Titans can't turn things around in the win column over the next few weeks, expect to see a QB change in the Music City.
Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota couldn't get things going in the loss to Jacksonville on Thursday. Though Mariota managed to throw for 304 yards, things were miserable for the 25-year-old as the Jaguars Defense recorded nine sacks on the night while limiting the Titans' offense to just seven points. After starting off the year with three touchdown tosses against the Browns in Week 1, Mariota hasn't really done much to appease fantasy owners. He will look to get back on track in Week 4 in Atlanta against the Falcons.
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota completed 22 of 39 passing for 282 yards Thursday, Sept. 19, against the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 3. Mariota did not throw a touchdown pass, nor was he intercepted. He added 34 yards on six carries. Jacksonville sacked Mariota nine times.
Fantasy Spin: Mariota is barely worth rostering in fantasy at this point. His line was beaten like a drum, and there are unfixable problems with his accuracy. Tennessee heads to Atlanta in Week 3 for a favorable matchup.
Titans' QB Marcus Mariota passed for 304 yards on 23-of-40 but no touchdowns in Thursday's loss in Jacksonville.
Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota (quadriceps) fully participated in practice Wednesday, Sept. 18, and is not on the injury report for Week 3.
Fantasy Spin: Mariota has thrown for four touchdowns over the first two games of the season but also has been held to under 250 yards in both games. He will be facing a solid Jacksonville Jaguars defense this week and probably can be kept on the bench in most leagues.
Tennessee Titans RB David Fluellen (hamstring), CB Christopher Milton (shoulder), OL Kevin Pamphile (knee) and LB Wesley Woodyard (quad) did not practice Tuesday, Sept. 17. LB Daren Bates (groin), CB Malcolm Butler (hip), QB Marcus Mariota (quad), WR A.J. Brown (knee), DB Dane Cruikshank (ankle), OL Jamil Douglas (knee) and LB Reggie Gilbert (knee) fully participated in practice.
Tennessee Titans head coach Mike Vrabel said that quarterback Marcus Mariota (quadriceps) will practice in full on Tuesday. On a short week going up a very respectable defense, Mariota is a last-gasp QB2 in two-QB leagues on Thursday night. Tennessee's offense remains a slow-paced, run-first unit and Mariota just is way too inconsistent with the passing work that he does get. He's attempted less than 30 passes in each of the first two games of the season.
