2024 RTSports Outlook

Mariota was the starter for the Falcons much of last season, but eventually lost the job. His accuracy issues were his downfall. Mariota had the second worst on target percentage in football (70.6 percent). Mariota topped 200-passing yard just three of 11 games. His biggest asset was his legs, rushing for 438 yards and four scores in 13 games. Last season might have been his last as a full-time starter. Mariota seems best suited for backup duty, a role he will serve this season with the Eagles. Mariota has not progressed as expected since entering the NFL in 2015, but shown some flashes of good things. Mariota has good size, a great arm and can make plays on the move. He can make all the throws and also runs well at the position. Turnovers are an issue, though, and his accuracy issues continue to be a problem.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Mariota always has potential when starting because he can get some yards on the ground in addition to having some success throwing the ball. But even with the said, he won't throw for many yards and turnovers are a concern.

Updating a previous report, free-agent QB Marcus Mariota (Eagles) officially signed with the Washington Commanders Friday, March 15. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but an earlier report stated it is a one-year contract worth $6 million.

Dynasty | The Commanders have signed quarterback Marcus Mariota. Dynasty Analysis: Well, this likely spells the end of the Sam Howell era in Washington. With the Commanders almost assuredly taking a quarterback with the second overall pick in the NFL Draft, it looks like they've pegged Mariota to either back him up or serve as a short-term bridge option. In the end, Mariota won't have much value as he's proven to be a capable backup and spot starter but far from a player to build around long-term.

Free-agent quarterback Marcus Mariota is signing a one-year, $6 million deal worth up to $10 million, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The former No. 2 overall pick in 2015 is set to join his fifth team after five years with the Tennessee Titans, two years with the Las Vegas Raiders, and one year a piece with the Atlanta Falcons and Philadelphia Eagles. In 90 games (74 starts), Mariota has passed for 15,820 yards, 93 touchdowns, and 55 interceptions. He's added over 2,000 yards and 17 scores on the ground. He's set to join a quarterback room that already has Sam Howell, and the Commanders are likely to take a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft with the No. 2 overall pick. That said, Mariota will likely be competing for the backup job, though some teams choose to start a veteran early in the season as they ease a rookie into action. Mariota slightly enters the two-QB and Superflex league fantasy radar for 2024.

Free-agent QB Marcus Mariota (Eagles) agreed to a one-year, $6 million deal with the Washington Commanders Tuesday, March 12. The deal could be worth $10 million after incentives.

Fantasy Spin: He figures to be a placeholder for whoever the team decides to take at No. 2 overall in the NFL draft. He could be an early season matchup play.

Philadelphia Eagles QB Marcus Mariota replaced QB Jalen Hurts against the New York Giants in Week 18 and finished with 148 passing yards, a touchdown and an interception and 46 rushing yards in a 27-10 loss.

From TheHuddle

Jan 7 7:50pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Marcus Mariota completed 13 of 20 passes for 148 yards, one touchdown, and one interception while adding six carries for 46 yards and a fumble during Sunday's 10-27 loss to the New York Giants. Jalen Hurts (finger) looked like he would exit the game due to his injury but came back in before being pulled by the coaching staff once the game was out of reach. Mariota did his best with the weapons he had, but all of the Eagles starting skill players outside of Dallas Goedert were out of the game. The extent of Hurts' injury is unknown, but since he already returned to this game and was throwing the ball, it is hard to imagine that he will sit out next week when the Eagles travel to Tampa Bay.

Jan 7 6:00pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Marcus Mariota took over for Jalen Hurts (finger) in Sunday's AFC East clash with the Giants. New York is up big currently, so Hurts, who suffered a gruesome finger injury, isn't expected to return for the rest of the contest. If that's the case, he'll finish with 55 yards and a pick off 7-for-16 passing. Nonetheless, Hurts managed to return briefly after sustaining the injury. However, he'll likely carry an injury designation ahead of the Eagles' first postseason contest. Philadelphia needs Hurts in the lineup, considering Mariota threw a pick on his first pass attempt of the day.

Dec 6 12:20pm ET

The Philadelphia Eagles want to get their running game going in a Week 14 divisional showdown against the Dallas Cowboys this Sunday after getting embarrassed at home by the San Francisco 49ers in Week 13. The Eagles had 46 rushing yards in a 42-19 loss, with 26 of those yards coming from quarterbacks Jalen Hurts and Marcus Mariota. Offensive coordinator Brian Johnson said there has to be "a balancing act" between the score and the need "to continue to hammer attempts and try to get the guys in a good rhythm and a good flow." Philly is fifth in the NFL in rushing attempts in 2023, so we can be sure that they will keep handing the ball off to D'Andre Swift and Kenneth Gainwell. Swift suffered an undisclosed injury late in Sunday's loss, but he could be in for a big workload against Dallas if he's able to play.

Dec 3 11:13pm ET

Philadelphia Eagles QB Marcus Mariota completed 2-of-3 passes for 16 yards in Week 13 against the San Francisco 49ers, and he ran twice for six yards, subbing briefly for QB Jalen Hurts while he was checked out for concussion. Hurts returned and was able to finish up.
