2020 RTSports Outlook

Cousins had a solid overall season for the Vikings but got fewer chances to air it out with the team moving to a little more run-heavy approach. He had 444 pass attempts compared to 606 his first season with the Vikings. He did have 27 total touchdowns to just six interceptions. Cousins did a very good job of limiting turnovers. He was just 18th overall in fantasy quarterback scoring, though. Cousins has at least 27 total scores five straight seasons and at least 4,000-passing yards all but one those seasons. Cousins isn't a flashy quarterback but a productive pocket passer. He doesn't have a huge arm but is accurate and makes smart decisions with the football. Cousins also has a knack for the rushing touchdown, scoring 15 the last five seasons.

FANTASY OUTLOOK: Cousins saw a dip in fantasy production last year. Some of that had to do with Adam Thielen missing much of the season, so don't be surprised is his numbers rise some this year. But even with that said, he is a more of a top No. 2 fantasy quarterback than a surefire starer. He'll get around 4,000 yards, 30 total scores and 10 or so interceptions.

RotoBaller's Outlook

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins had a spectacular 2018 season, though it didnt necessarily translate to fantasy points as he finished as just QB13. Cousins threw 425-for-606 (70.1%) for 4,298 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He put up these numbers despite the Vikings having a rough season, with Dalvin Cook missing a large chunk of time and an offensive line that ranked among the NFLs worst in 2018. Theres plenty of reason to believe in Cousins this year, however. The Vikings improved their offensive line, added an exciting rookie tight end, and welcomed back a healthy Dalvin Cook. As a starter, Cousins has averaged 22.4, 23.7, 22.2, and 22.1 fantasy points per game in his four seasons, finishing as QB8, QB5, QB6, and QB13 in those years. He is currently being drafted at OVR90 (QB15), behind Jameis Winston, Ben Roethlisberger, Cam Newton, and Philip Rivers. Look for Cousins to exceed his ADP as he is in a prime spot to thrive in a balanced offense that features the best wide receiver duo in the league in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs.

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins threw a league-high 135 passes with at least eight defenders in the box in 2019, according to Pro Football Focus.

From TheHuddle

Jun 16 9:13pm ET

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins completed 65.5 percent of his passes, averaged 7.3 yards per pass attempt, threw 10 touchdowns versus five interceptions and recorded a passer rating of 94.8 when RB Dalvin Cook was not on the field in 2019. Conversely, Cousins completed 71 percent of his passes, averaged 8.5 yards per attempt, threw 16 touchdowns versus one interception and recorded a passer rating of 114.3 when Cook was on the field.

From TheHuddle

Jun 16 4:43pm ET

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins threw five interceptions on 165 pass attempts without RB Dalvin Cook on the field in 2019, according to Next Gen Stats. Cousins threw just one interception on 279 pass attempts when Cook was on the field.

Fantasy Spin: Cook rushed for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns on 250 attempts last season, and he caught 53 of 63 targets for another 519 yards. When he's healthy and on the field, he's a high-end RB1 and Cousins can be a low-end QB1 in pass-friendly matchups.

From TheHuddle

Jun 15 10:03pm ET

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins posted a passer rating of 129.2 on throws over the middle of the field in 2019, according to Inside Edge NFL.

From TheHuddle

Jun 5 1:50pm ET

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins has mostly been successful in the NFL when pressured. While he doesn't face as much pressure as he once did, Cousins remains a top-five QB when under duress. His passer rating (91.5) was fifth-best in 2019, his completion percentage under pressure (58.1) was fourth-best and his completion percentage above expectation (plus-3.8) was in the top five. The 31-year-old is often overshadowed by some of the league's stars at the position, but he also lost his No. 1 receiver in Stefon Diggs and his offensive coordinator in Kevin Stefanski. He could take a step back in 2020 in an offense that will lean heavily on the running game. Target Cousins as a midrange QB2 with a low ceiling.

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins has been the team's most valuable player of the past decade, according to Pro Football Focus' WAR.

From TheHuddle

Jun 2 4:30pm ET

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins had a 9:1 touchdown-to-interception ratio on deep passes in 2019 and the highest passer rating (121.5) on such throws among NFL.com's Nick Shook's top-10 best deep passers last season. But his deep shots weren't nearly as risky as other QBs, as Cousins attempted deep shots into tight windows just 20.4 percent of the time and his receivers were open on 25.9 percent of his deep pass attempts with an average target separation of 2.2 yards. Cousins did this while being pressured on 31.5 percent of his deep attempts, but his probability for success was high to begin with. But losing Stefon Diggs, his No. 1 deep threat, will surely put a dent in these numbers in 2020. It's why Cousins' fantasy upside won't be as high this year while remaining in a run-first offense.

From RotoBaller

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins threw a catchable ball 78.8 percent of the time in 2019 - tied for the third-best mark by a quarterback with at least 300 pass attempts.

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins threw for a league-high 13 touchdowns on play-action passes in 2019, according to USA TODAY's Doug Farrar.

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins offered up his thoughts on his team's Christmas Day game against the New Orleans Saints, noting the peculiarity of having to play on a Friday. 'I haven't played on a Friday since high school. That will be interesting,' Cousins said.

Fantasy Spin: The Week 16 game projects to be a marquee matchup in a rematch of the 2019 wild-card game at Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans. Late in the season, all players should be in a groove with fantasy managers having a strong idea of what to expect, but the day of the game may cause some sluggishness and lead to some disappointing fantasy performances in the championship week.

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins enjoyed a league-high average of 2.7 seconds in the pocket in 2019.

The Minnesota Vikings and quarterback Kirk Cousins agreed to a two-year, $66 million contract extension on Monday, according to sources. Cousins was heading into the final year of his three-year, fully guaranteed $84 million deal that he signed in March of 2018. Counting next year's salary from his old deal, Cousins has a $96 million deal with $61 million guaranteed at signing. He has his critics, but the 31-year-old had 26 touchdowns and only six interceptions in the regular season last year, including a career-high 107.4 passer rating. Cousins has some QB1 upside with Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen as his receivers, but Minnesota is mostly a run-first squad, making him preferable as a QB2 for fantasy owners.

Updating an earlier report, Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins' two-year extension is worth $66 million. The deal includes $10 million in new money and provides $10 million in salary cap relief. He's guaranteed $61 million in 2020 and 2021 and an additional $35 million guaranteed for injury. That converts to fully guaranteed in 2021.

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins agreed to a two-year contract extension Monday, March 16, according to agent Mike McCartney. Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Fantasy Spin: Cousins threw 26 touchdowns and only six picks, but he was 19th in fantasy points among quarterbacks. He'll be a high-end to midrange QB2 in fantasy drafts.

The Minnesota Vikings are turning to Gary Kubiak, who has been an assistant head coach and offensive advisor, as their next offensive coordinator, according to sources. Minnesota's previous offensive coordinator, Kevin Stefanski, has left to become the Browns head coach. Not much will change in Minnesota with Kubiak at the helm of the offense, but it is mostly good news for running back Dalvin Cook, who will continue to be the focal point of this offense moving forward. Quarterback Kirk Cousins also benefited from plenty of play-action passing plays while Kubiak was an offensive advisor.

From RotoBaller

Jan 11 7:50pm ET

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins completed 21 of 29 passes for 172 yards and a touchdown in a 27-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional round. He also tossed one interception in the defeat. The 49ers Defense pressured Cousins all game long, and the Vikings' inability to get the running game going had an extremely negative effect on the offense as a whole. Cousins finished the year on a terrible note but had a career-best year with a 26/6 TD/INT ratio, over 3,600 passing yards, and a 69.1% completion percentage. There have been rumblings of the Vikings extending Cousins in the offseason as he is entering the final season of his three-year deal.

From RotoBaller

Jan 11 7:43pm ET

Minnesota Vikings QB Kirk Cousins went 21-for-29 for 172 yards, one touchdown and one interception against the San Francisco 49ers in the Divisional Round playoff game. RB Dalvin Cook rushed for 18 yards on nine carries and caught six passes for eight yards during the game. WR Stefon Diggs caught two passes for 57 yards and one touchdown on five targets. WR Adam Thielen caught five passes for 50 yards on seven targets. TE Irv Smith caught three passes for 39 yards on three targets, while TE Kyle Rudolph caught two passes for four yards on three targets.

From TheHuddle

Jan 9 8:00pm ET

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins proved legions of doubters wrong in a thrilling 26-20 overtime win in the Wild Card round over the New Orleans Saints. However, he finished with underwhelming fantasy numbers as he threw for just 242 yards and one touchdown in the victory. Saturday's Divisional round matchup won't prove to be any easier. The San Francisco 49ers Defense ranks in the top-three in yards allowed per attempt, pass DVOA, and passing yards allowed per game and rank 10th in fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks. They're also expected to get starters back from injury at all three levels of the defense. Adam Thielen (ankle) and Stefon Diggs (illness) are projecting to play, but this defense has been a top unit all year and passing volume remains a concern in the Vikings' run-heavy scheme. Cousins is not a recommended cash game option in DFS and he should only be employed as a dart-throw contrarian play in large-field tournaments.

From RotoBaller

Jan 9 5:00pm ET

San Francisco 49ers defensive end Dee Ford (hamstring) is listed as questionable for the Divisional Round against the Vikings. Linebacker Kwon Alexander is coming off Injured Reserve since tearing his pectoral muscle on Halloween and strong safety Jaquiski Tartt (ribs) will also return. Getting pass-rusher Ford back as well would be even more good news for a stacked 49ers Defense. The 28-year-old had 14 total tackles (10 solo), 6.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in 11 games before his injury. His presence on Saturday would be bad news for Vikings signal-caller Kirk Cousins and the rest of the Minnesota offense on the road.
